May 14, 2018 - Getting Ready

It is a little over a month until we all leave on this epic trip out west. We will be visiting many places that Susan and I have been, but it will be a first time for Elisabeth, Pete and Jack and Tuck. Right now we are getting our Motor Home ready. We took it on a shake down trip to Myrtle Beach and boy did it shake down. We have along list of things that need to be fixed. A broken slide, broken levelers, oil change, generator that only starts when we are plugged in-- that helps a lot! Pete and Elisabeth bought a new Class C and are adding...

Jul 24, 2017 - Home after 8500 miles

Well we arrived home yesterday after traveling about 8500 miles and being gone almost exactly 9 weeks. We spent three days in North Carolina with Christian and his wife and two kids. We really had fun hanging out with them, but boy was it hot and humid in NC. Christian said he was trying to condition us for our return to Florida. It had been awhile since we had seen Adalyn and Carter and boy have they grown. Very nice and polite children. Both were getting ready for Vacation Bible study this week-- Mom and Dad too! Our trip was really...

Jun 30, 2015 - Almost ready

Well we are making final preparations for the big trip. Waiting on the arrival of the spare tire. Were promised it would be here yesterday, now suppose to be ready for pick up at noon today. Hope he is right. I really don't want to travel over 10,000 miles with no spare! Have to get Princess bathed today and pick up some money and load the remaining stuff. I am sure we will forget something, but from the amount of stuff we have already put in the RV, I don't know what it would be. We are planning on leaving early tomorrow and hopefully...

Dear Friends: Susan and I are beginning the planning process for our trip to Alaska this summer. We are planning on leaving about July 6, 2015 and will probably be gone for about 2 and 1/2 months. Many of you have, in the past, asked to receive updates of our travels. Some of you have recently said you would like to follow us on this journey. If you would like to follow this trip, please let me know at bherring4@yahoo.com. If you would rather not receive updates of our trip, please let me know and I will remove you from the update list. I...

Feb 6, 2014 - Florida Update

I wanted to bring you all up to date on our life here in Florida. We have been here since January 6th and really have enjoyed this area. While we were planning on leaving here today, we have postponed moving on to the Gulf Shores. The short version is that we are in the process of buying a villa on a golf course in a gated community called Spruce Creek South which is on the edge of Lady Lake Florida and borders The Villages. The long story is there are many reasons why we are doing this. One, I needed a home base if anything happened to...

Jan 21, 2014 - Happy New Year

Happy New Year from the Glasses in sunny, although not to warm, Florida. After spending 8 weeks in South Carolina with our son Torrey and his family, we had time to visit plantation homes, golf a number of courses, enjoy family cook outs, and eat southern cuisine. By being in one place for a period of time, we were able to use our Silver Sneaker membership at the Sumter YMCA. On January 3, we left for the south hoping for warmer weather and less rain. We went via Savannah, Georgia and St. Augustine, the oldest city in the US. Savannah was...

Aug 16, 2010 - Preparations are underwayl

Well, it is time to start getting ready. We took the motor home to get the oil changed and few minor repairs done. Next week we are getting it detailed. Tomorrow we head down to Camping World to restock on some things. Just 11 days until we leave. We are planning on driving pretty straight to Denver. We have a reservation at Cherry Stone State Park and will stay there over the Labor Day week-end and then head up to Estes Park and hopefully get to see some of the Aspen leaves turned. Then off to Grand Junction and Moab, down to Monument...

Apr 23, 2009 - Shake Down Trip

We just returned today from a short shake down trip with a couple who just purchased a "new" motor home-- at least new to them. Ron and Donna bought a 97 Airstream Land Yacht and needed to take it out to see it performed and we agreed to tag along in our unit to help out. We went up to Silver River State Park in Ocala. Not too far, but a really nice park. Easy sites to get in and out and if a real disaster struck, not that far from home. It was a good thing that we decided to do this since when we got ready to leave, we had a problem with...

Apr 7, 2009 - Getting Ready

We have just spent the week-end getting the RV ready for the trip. We have added most of the stuff we wanted to add to make the trip more enjoyable-- stuff like Sirius radio and an outlet so Susan can operate the computer on the road and lots of books! All of our reservations are made. We still need to have the RV serviced before we leave. Counting the days! Only 40 days till departure.

Mar 1, 2009 - Lady Lake: A Herd of Stampeding turtles

This has been a great two weeks. The weather has been beautiful, our campsite was large and shaded, we visited three neat places, saw old friends we hadn’t seen in years and most special, Marchia and Warren came down from North Carolina to be with us. We were in different campgrounds, but we were only about 18 miles apart. We are rather curious as to how many of you have ever heard the phrase “a herd of stampeding turtles”. We will always associate the phrase with Lady Lake, FL. We had never heard it until we got here but once here, we...

Dec 10, 2008 - Lady Lake, FL

Hello from Lady Lake! This is the place where our trailer will spend a month without moving! My parents, Tom and Janet, will 'babysit' the trailer while we head back to Alaska for some holiday time. We're parked in a nice little RV park with lots of activities. We are also close to The Villages community with lots of golfing and other special events that my folks can take advantage of. See ya in January! Merry Christmas to all!
