Oct 21, 2018 - Key West-Week Five

Week five 10/15-21. If you remember last week we tried to go to the Square Grouper but arrived during their closed period between lunch and dinner between 2:30 and 4. Well, this week we made it for lunch. I had Scallops as an appetizer and Margie got edamames. Margie had the rum soaked pineapple drink and a fish sandwich. I got the special which was yellowtail over rice. The cost was $82.03. Some background on the Square Grouper name: There is a place called BO’s Fish Wagon in Key West that has a sandwich on their menu called the Square...

Oct 15, 2018 - Possibly Lost Journal Entries

These are just some notes I found and I can’t remember if they were put in the journal and I can’t find them easily in the journal. So, here they are. I’m sorry if they were already in the journal but it's not too long. I know I never wrote about this. I hope nobody I know got caught in the extortion email about having a data dump and actual screen shots of you on porn sites, including pictures of you with your computer's camera. I got one and it said I had 48 hours to deposit $700 in a bitcoin account before the extortionists would release...

Oct 14, 2018 - Key West- Week 4

As I try to write this I’m beginning to realize it will probably be easier to just write lengthy titles with the pictures to chronicle our time here. So, don’t forget to always look at the pictures for more information. Monday this week we received the most wind and rain from Hurricane Michael. One of the lots received some damage to the windscreens and later we realized that the wind screen probably struck the TV cracking the screen. Then on Saturday of this week we had the calmest water we have ever seen since we got here. It looked like...

Oct 12, 2018 - Key West Fl – Empress of the Seas

Had no problems getting to the port and our cruise ship yesterday. It turned out our ship – Royal Caribbean’s Empress of the Seas – was the only one sailing yesterday. I was surprised at that, but figure Hurricane Michael may have affected the itineraries of some of the other ships. No worries, here, though. It was smooth sailing for us on the way to our first stop in Key West. This is my second time in Key West and I’m still trying to see what the attraction is. So many people like to come here and rave about how much they like it, but I...

Oct 7, 2018 - Key West-Weeks Two and Three

9/24-30 Week number two in Key West and the highs are in the low to mid 90s. We went shopping this week and I bought a touristy shirt. It is light material, has venting in the back, and has several pockets. Most importantly it says Key West on the pocket and on the back with a big fish. Margie is farming in Key West like she did in Alaska. She’s going to try growing some vegetables. I say try, but I’m sure she will succeed. I was pretty impressed with her accomplishments in Skagway, Alaska considering the soil and area she had. There was...

Sep 23, 2018 - Key West-Week One

So with a day and a half off we had time to explore Key West a little bit before we started working. We drove by the buoy signifying the Southernmost Point in the United States. We drove by some of the eating and drinking establishments. We ate our first restaurant meal in Key West at “The Stoned Crab” where I had the lobster and Margie had a fish basket. We also checked out the resort a little bit and took some pictures. On Tuesday we started to work at 9am and met up with our boss. Each of us was issued keys, a golf cart, a radio, name...

May 7, 2018 - Living On Key West Time

Cayo Hueso, better known to most as Key West or even the Conch Republic, is part of a 125 plus mile island chain connected by historic bridges known as the overseas highway and the United States’ southernmost point lying roughly 90 miles north of Cuba. It is famed for its crystal-clear waters, pastel-hued homes, eccentric residents and quirky events, of which we experienced all of and more! Because of Dennis’ Marine Corps career we are very fortunate to have access to affordable campgrounds on military bases all around the country. When...

Feb 4, 2018 - Exploring some of the sights

Sorry, this one is long; promise we won't leave it so long next time! Welcome back, we are still in our bus, still in Florida… even after going to the Tampa Bay RV show a couple of weeks ago and looking at the $2.2 million (US) RVs - the good news is we’ve decided that we like ours better, so life continues like normal until the next RV show comes along. Though we did spend money, our big buy at the RV show was a couple of non-rocking - rocking chairs… hard to explain, but they will be awesome at the bon-fires this summer to relax in. Our...

Jan 29, 2018 - Key West

Jul 21, 2017 - The rest of the keys

We leave Key Largo to pass though the rest of the keys to Key West. Our first stop is Islamorada MM 77.5 where we visit Robbie's marina. It's a conglomeration of little huts comprising a restaurant, shops, kayak rentals, boat trips and feeding the massive tarpon at the dock. We organise a kayak and plan to kayak through some of the mangroves. The hippy laid back man behind the counter that has the 'best tan ever' sets us up with a kayak and a map and off we paddle. All the mangroves look the same and we are petrified we are going to get...

Plan to cross over into Brazil from Lethem, bus down to Manaous, ferry up the Amazon to the coast, work our way back into French Guiana, then by road through Surinam and Guyana. Not sure if by bicycle, but may fly old bikes over. But first, visas and yellow fever vaccinations..... Shooting for July or August

LUCKY 58

Apr 2, 2017 - Keys Disease

Right about now when the snow is still lingering up north and the gray days are still coming one after another - you get the urge to just hop in the car and head south! At least I did on one or more occasions. I lived in southern Connecticut. Just a mere hour by train to the Big Apple. Sure it was fun living in the hustle and bustle of city life - but there was something missing. It wasn't until my first trip to the Keys that I realized there was a whole different world out there. There were kind people, clear water that you can see the...
