Mar 24, 2019 - Key West-Week 27-NO MINIMUM WAGE!

Monday Believe it or not I got $5 tip today. Margie and I had both been in a site today and when I was putting someone in it I found a small bird’s egg laying on the floor. I don’t know where it came from. I trimmed the palms in the lot the renter asked me to do when I was leaving last night for corned beef and cabbage. So, I also gave him Trump pins and a Trump pen since he liked my Trump hat. Tuesday I mailed my tax returns to Arizona and Illinois today. I do my taxes on a website called FreeTax USA and I think I had to mail these two...

Mar 20, 2019 - Key West FL

I checked the website the other day and a surprising number of you have been looking there to see if there has been an update so since there is a glimmer of interest I guess I will have to start getting back in the swing of things. As we get ready to get this show back on the road, here is what we have been doing during our winter – as if there is one in South FL – break. We have been busy; but not doing much that is all that journal-worthy. Of course I bet that those of you that we have seen over the last couple months would disagree that...

Mar 17, 2019 - Key West-Week 26-Thank God for a Hard Head

This is some stuff I may have forgotten or just thought I’d expand on: I don’t remember how much I said about getting my mail forwarded to me back in January, but I was looking at the receipt and saw that having my mail forwarded cost me $12.60 in postage. However, I had the mail forwarded then because it was also time to renew my mailbox. Although, I should have waited because I needed to have it forwarded again the following month in order to do my taxes. The renewal cost me $240 for 12 months. I use a UPS store in the St. Louis, Missouri...

Mar 14, 2019 - Jungle Queen

We went on the Jungle Queen Boat ride with an all you can eat plus entertainment. The meal was barbecue chicken, ribs and 2 kinds of shrimp with potatoes, beans and coleslaw. Which is done on there private island (not really an island)if you are ever here be sure and do it. Worth ever penny, I think it was our 3rd trip through the years. As you travel along the waterway they tell about the houses and yachts cost and people who own some of them. They live in a different world than us it's just hard to believe how much money people have. It...

Mar 13, 2019 - Another Adventure

We knew we were about to lose our points for our Time Share at the end of the month. So Sunday Linda made reservations for Pompano Beach in Fort Lauderdale. We have been here 4 times through the years at different Resorts. We had decided to come down for the last time Monday the 11th. We like Daytona Beach a lot better than down here. We rode A1A all the way down the coast again. Everything was about the same but this time we went through Billionaires Row in Palm Beach. We have never seen houses that large. It was really interesting. Linda...

Mar 10, 2019 - Key West-Week 25-Geocaching

3/4-3/10 Week 25 Monday A 45 foot Marathon coach came in today. They are going to have an open house and cocktail party on Thursday to show it off. Margie found a Bass Pro Shops brand propane double burner, with adapter in someone’s trash. It’s amazing what these people buy and just throw away when they are done with them. Tuesday I probably wrote that we found some Straw-ber-Ritas and Mang-o-Ritas left in one of the sites. I finally drank one of the Straw-ber-Ritas this evening. I was surprised that it didn’t taste too bad. Wednesday On...

Mar 3, 2019 - Key West-Week 24

2/25-3/3 Week 24 Monday I got $7 tip for parking someone again. Margie got a check for $40 from a fellow that rents kayaks and other stuff to our renters. He will also deliver fishing bait to them. I guess he thought he owed us for any referrals we may make for him and for taking care of his kayaks when people leave before he is able to get here to retrieve them. There was a cream pie left in the refrigerator of the community room after the pot luck dinner on Saturday. I figured by now it was just going to eventually get thrown away. So, I...

Feb 24, 2019 - Key West-Week 23-It looked like a bandit!

Monday The renter on 35 asked about getting the gate remounted at the rear of their site. Now the boss says we need to get it put back up. I thought he was going to do it, but later I checked on it and it was still where I had left it. That site backs up to the pool and people can look right into the Tiki hut. I’m guessing that is why the renters went from not having a problem with the gate not being up to now wanting it remounted. So, since it was still down I started remounting it. I found out that the bottom hinge was pretty rusted out...

Feb 24, 2019 - Week 22- Key West- On Our Own

2/11-17 Week 22 I don’t remember if I’ve included anything in the blog about my grandson’s cub scouts adventures. He built a wooden case for his pinewood derby car. Out of 12 races in the pinewood derby he took first place in the first two and second place in the next two. They had a Blue and Gold Ceremony where he got a lot of badges. I haven’t found out which ones yet. I don’t think I mentioned the picture my son sent me January 31st. It was very cold in St. Louis and he was wearing a Carhart winter coat, over the heated coat I got him,...

Feb 10, 2019 - Key West-Week 21- "CRASH"

2/4-2/10 Week 21 Monday One of the owners that evidently has a reputation of hitting things and not caring lived up to his reputation today. He is obviously another more money the sense rich person. Every time the boss knows he is coming in he runs around moving things that might be in his path. The lot owner always tows a large trailer behind him. So, he has to go into the boneyard (trailer storage area) when he gets here to unhook and leave the trailer there. The boss makes sure there are no trailers or other vehicles anywhere that he...

Feb 8, 2019 - Key West-Week 20/ STOP THIEF!

1/28-2/3 Week 20 Monday Well, this was a new way to start a week. Margie went ahead of me and unlocked the two storage trailers we use. I was getting ready to leave our site in my golf cart when she came back and told me that the table and chairs were missing from under the break area Tiki hut. She said there was also a tarp of some sort there that wasn’t there yesterday and a bike was parked next to the John Deere “Gator” we have back there. Margie and I worked by ourselves yesterday and we sat at the table. So, we knew that the table and...

Jan 28, 2019 - Key West-Week 19

1/21-27 Week 19 Monday A person came into one of the sites today. He used to own it, but sold it a year ago. He sold it with the understanding that he could still use it. He only has to pay the nightly resort’s fee of about $20. Not bad for a place to stay in Key West, where the going rate would be at least $200. Not only that, but he made over 1.1 million dollars from the site. He bought the lot in 1990 for $80,000 and sold it last year for 1.2 million dollars. That is $80,000 and $1,200,000. So, in about 27 years he made over $1,100,000...
