Jan 11, 2013 - Cruise on the Loxahatchee

From Jonathan Dickinson SP in Hobe Sound, FL ... Friday, January 11, 2012 Our group of four had a little adventure planned for today. Sam had suggested that we rent a small motorboat at the state park and take it out on the beautiful Loxahatchee River. As detailed in the photos here, there were some deterrants, but we finally got going on the water. We were out for about 2 1/2 hours and had a great time. Since we had already done the guided tour on the large pontoon boat at the state park, we really enjoyed just going at our own pace...

On the Road Again

Jan 10, 2013 - January 9th

It rained most of the night last night. Then cleared somewhat in the morning. We decided to go fish in Kimbal Park in the town of Jupiter. We were fishing in salt water. Which we had been fishing in all the time so far. We didn't catch anything bot saw several rays, swim by. They were about 18 inches across, and several feet long including their spear tail. Later we went fishing back in Jonathan Dickinson state park at the dock and caught nothing there too. Later in the evening Sally walked all the RV campground roads and Carolyn walked a...

Jan 9, 2013 - Sam and Sandy Arrive

From Jonathan Dickinson SP in Hobe Sound, FL ... Wednesday, January 9, 2012 Late Monday afternoon Sam and Sandy arrived here at the state park. Fortunately, they got in just before the rain started pouring around 4:30pm. And it rained, and it rained, until after noon on Tuesday. When the rain finally ceased, the air was fresh and clean though. We all went out to lunch on Tuesday at a place called The Food Shack. Funny name for a place with such a creative menu. Wow! Their food is fabulous with beautiful presentation, and reasonable prices...

On the Road Again

Jan 8, 2013 - January 5th

We rode the bikes 11 miles today. We rode from the campground the the boat ramp down by the river and back. The day was warm and mostly cloudy We saw a 4' alligator on the bike ride. Later in the day Terry and Sally went fishing at the boat dock down by the river. It didn't last long though, as Terry hooked himself in the right shoulder blade area. We couldn't remove the hook so we took a trip into the local emergence room and had it removed. Oh well it kept us occupied.

Jan 8, 2013 - January 7th

We decided to walk this morning. So we drove down past the railroad tracks and started down a trail. After walking for about 15 minutes through the scrub brush, Sally was startled by a orange and brown snake slithering across the trail. Walking on we were extremely startled by a a large animal jumping and running through the brush. It started running just 10-15 feet from us. After getting our wits back about us we tried to see what it was. About that time another one jumped and this one snorted and squealed like a pig. Then we were able to...

Jan 5, 2013 - Morning Walks

From Jonathan Dickinson SP in Hobe Sound, FL ... Saturday, January 5, 2013 We have eased into a little morning routine around here. We get up around 7:30am, wake up while sipping coffee for about an hour. Then we head out for our morning walk. We walk about 1/4 mile or less from our campsite to the trailhead for one of many trails in the state park. We have calculated our walk to be around 3 miles or so, and we really enjoy it. I have posted several pictures from Saturday's walk. After our walk, we return and fix breakfast. It has been...

Dec 31, 2012 - Settling In

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL ... Monday, December 31, 2012 We awoke this morning to the sound of birds chirping outside. This is one of the things we miss spending a winter at home in Virginia. It was still a bit breezy outside today but much warmer as the temps rose to the low 80s. We spent most of the day outside beginning with a nice long walk on one of the trails in the state park. After our walk, we returned home and Charlie made us some cream of wheat. We also enjoyed some of the delicious FL grapefruit that...

On the Road Again

Aug 29, 2010 - Hobe Sound, FL

A 180 mile run down I-95 to Hobe Sound, FL, right on US 1 north of West Palm Beach. We're staying at Jonathan Dickinson State Park, in a new and very well maintained campground. And, for the first time, a state park in which we're not in the deep forest. It is actually open ground (see pix). Nice change insofar as the "gloom factor" is concerned, and we can get satellite TV. BUT, we'll miss the trees once the sun shines. "Once the sun shines", as in it isn't shining right now. It's overcast with intermittent rain, sometimes pretty heavy. We...
