Oct 25, 2015 - Jonathan Dickinson State Park

Just under 200 miles and 4 hours from the Bulow RV resort and I am at Hobe Sound at a state park with great internet connections and TV! not going anywhere today. I might drive around the park and see what's changed in 7 years. I did drive around and remember the place well. I went to the Hobe Mountain Overlook and found a letterbox there. It was near sunset but there were too many clouds on the western horizon to get a decent sunset picture. Hobe Mountain is the tallest place in southeast FL at 86 feet! Ha! On Monday, I went on the hunt...

Monday We exercised in the morning. In the evening we went fishing. Sally caught two Suawnee Bass and I caught nothing. We have been seeing a couple playing Bocce Ball in the park as we leave the fishing spot. We've not seen anyone this dedicated to Bocce Ball before. Tuesday, again, we exercised in the morning with Sally riding her bike 5.5 miles at a fast pace while I walked to the top of the observation tower and back, a total of 3.5 miles. In the afternoon we went into town and did some grocery shopping and got some Boric acid. In the...

Last evening. We went fishing in the evening and Sally caught two fish and I caught 1. Mine was a catfish and her's were ,we think, a jack and a lady fish. Today we didn't leave the park. We both exercised in the morning and we rode the bikes down to the boat dock in the afternoon. The round trip was about 8 miles. We again went fishing in the evening and had several on but were only able to land one. We once again couldn't identify it but got a good picture of Sally holding it. Do you know what it was? We came to town this morning and I'm...

We went to Wal-Mart this morning. We picked up a few groceries, a few hooks, and a sewer extension and a sewer coupler. When we got back to camp we hooked up the coupler and extension That took us a while. We then left to go fishing and update the blog. On the way to the WIFI hotspot we saw a tortoise about a foot long. It was eating grass.

To finish what we did on the 9th, After updated the blog on the 9th. As we returned to the campground we decided to go fishing. Terry went to a spot behind our campsite and he waded casting a spinner without any luck. Sally was watching when she saw a bald eagle fly by. The day was very dreary but it was warmer than it has been. We decided to try another spot back in the park. We used frozen shrimp and frozen mullet for bait. We had several bites but were only able to catch one amberjack and one blue crab. The crab was able to get his claws...

Oct 26, 2013 - Jonathan Dickinson State Park

We usually plan our stops at no more than about two hours down the road, however, it's amazing how far you can go in Florida in two hours. We decided on Jonathan Dickinson State Park just above West Palm Beach. It's been a while since we stayed in a state park and just off Highway 1, this one is large. The sites are very large as well and nicely spaced apart, but definitely lacking in trees which hasn't been a problem up to this point. We wonder if a tornado or hurricane took them all down as the only trees were palms that were newly...

Jan 11, 2013 - Cruise on the Loxahatchee

From Jonathan Dickinson SP in Hobe Sound, FL ... Friday, January 11, 2012 Our group of four had a little adventure planned for today. Sam had suggested that we rent a small motorboat at the state park and take it out on the beautiful Loxahatchee River. As detailed in the photos here, there were some deterrants, but we finally got going on the water. We were out for about 2 1/2 hours and had a great time. Since we had already done the guided tour on the large pontoon boat at the state park, we really enjoyed just going at our own pace...

On the Road Again

Jan 10, 2013 - January 9th

It rained most of the night last night. Then cleared somewhat in the morning. We decided to go fish in Kimbal Park in the town of Jupiter. We were fishing in salt water. Which we had been fishing in all the time so far. We didn't catch anything bot saw several rays, swim by. They were about 18 inches across, and several feet long including their spear tail. Later we went fishing back in Jonathan Dickinson state park at the dock and caught nothing there too. Later in the evening Sally walked all the RV campground roads and Carolyn walked a...

Jan 9, 2013 - Sam and Sandy Arrive

From Jonathan Dickinson SP in Hobe Sound, FL ... Wednesday, January 9, 2012 Late Monday afternoon Sam and Sandy arrived here at the state park. Fortunately, they got in just before the rain started pouring around 4:30pm. And it rained, and it rained, until after noon on Tuesday. When the rain finally ceased, the air was fresh and clean though. We all went out to lunch on Tuesday at a place called The Food Shack. Funny name for a place with such a creative menu. Wow! Their food is fabulous with beautiful presentation, and reasonable prices...

On the Road Again

Jan 8, 2013 - January 7th

We decided to walk this morning. So we drove down past the railroad tracks and started down a trail. After walking for about 15 minutes through the scrub brush, Sally was startled by a orange and brown snake slithering across the trail. Walking on we were extremely startled by a a large animal jumping and running through the brush. It started running just 10-15 feet from us. After getting our wits back about us we tried to see what it was. About that time another one jumped and this one snorted and squealed like a pig. Then we were able to...

Florida, 2013

Jan 8, 2013 - January 5th

We rode the bikes 11 miles today. We rode from the campground the the boat ramp down by the river and back. The day was warm and mostly cloudy We saw a 4' alligator on the bike ride. Later in the day Terry and Sally went fishing at the boat dock down by the river. It didn't last long though, as Terry hooked himself in the right shoulder blade area. We couldn't remove the hook so we took a trip into the local emergence room and had it removed. Oh well it kept us occupied.

Jan 5, 2013 - Morning Walks

From Jonathan Dickinson SP in Hobe Sound, FL ... Saturday, January 5, 2013 We have eased into a little morning routine around here. We get up around 7:30am, wake up while sipping coffee for about an hour. Then we head out for our morning walk. We walk about 1/4 mile or less from our campsite to the trailhead for one of many trails in the state park. We have calculated our walk to be around 3 miles or so, and we really enjoy it. I have posted several pictures from Saturday's walk. After our walk, we return and fix breakfast. It has been...
