Apr 26, 2016 - Covered Wagon CG

So, even though the map doesn't show it, I went south from Bradenton this morning to North Fort Myers and Horners in order to have a new motor installed for my main awning. I hit the road for northern destinations at 11:30. This is the first place I am stopping - on my way to Mammoth Cave in KY to spend the summer.

Nov 1, 2015 - The Monkey Bar

We head off to Homosassa once again for Happy Hour at the Monkey Bar and a view of Monkey Island. Ann, who just arrived at our campground and Al (who has been here longer than dirt) accompanied us; neither of them had been here before. The Monkey bar is part of a much larger complex: a hotel, restaurant, cabins, and several other buildings. They also rent & sell kayaks, and have riverboat dinner cruises and airboat tours. Now that the weather is cooling off and snowbirds are returning down south, business is starting to really pick up. The...

We journeyed towards the Gulf Coast to meet up with Tom & Glenda and Larry who have become very good friends after we all met at Fort Desoto almost 2 years ago. We decided to have lunch at "The Freezer" in Homosassa and then drive down the street to see "Monkey Island" from the "Monkey Bar". Mike and Nancy

Jul 14, 2014 - The Freezer

We took a scouting trip to Homosassa and Crystal River to 'check out' a few RV Parks for a 2 month stay once we leave the Lake Panasoffkee (Lake Pan) area sometime in mid-august. We were told to have shrimp at a place called 'The Freezer'. The freezer is a good sized building that was once used to freeze fish and shrimp, and other seafood, that was commercially caught in the local waters, and off-loaded from the dock that attaches to the 'Freezer'. Here are a few pictures for you! Mike and Nancy

Nov 3, 2012 - Withlacooche Trail & Crystal River Preserve State Park

Thursday a later start to the day drove to Inverness about 18 miles away so we could get on the Withlacoochee State Trail with our bikes, we cycled 16.5 miles today saw lots of Gopher Tortoises on the way it seemed where there was a pile of sand we saw a tortoise. This trail is the longest paved rail-trail ( total of 46 miles) in Florida at the moment, it runs through small towns, ranches and natural areas, it is mostly flat with interesting boards to read along the way, as we biked a truck went past several times with Crime Watch on the...

Apr 27, 2012 - Old Florida

If there is such a thing as paradise on earth, this was it! Low-Key Hideaway in Cedar Key, Florida is the ultimate for relaxing….laid back is almost not enough of a description for this charming retreat. We had somewhat of an expectation because of the description given to us by a fellow RV’er in Texas but were blown away by the attention to detail and loving care by the managers, Pat and Cindy. The Low-Key Hideaway is only 4 RV spots, 5 motel rooms and a Tiki Bar but the views of the birds, salt marshes and bayous and sunsets are...

Jul 10, 2007 - Leaving Homosassa

We've brought the RV to the house and loaded it up in no time...we must be getting good at this. We leave tomorrow and head for our first stop in Chatham, New York. We are spending a few days with Bob and Ilene Patrick before we head for Maine and the Maritimes. We've been up and down this east coast corridor between NY, South Carolina and Florida so many times that I think we can do it with our eyes closed. We have opted to follow the more scenic route through western North Carolina and Virgina, then we'll cut through Pennsylvania into mid...
