May 20, 2013 - Checking Out The Area

We had a nice weekend at Okeechobee hanging around the pool in the late afternoon, this is the season to go places in Florida because all the snowbirds have gone back north and who would want to be in Florida during the summer!!! WE DO !!! We love to go visit places here in Florida because you can walk any place with out elbow to elbow people here during the summer time. Most of the time we were the only people in the pool and some times maybe another couple. We took a two hour drive from Okeechobee to Hobe Sound , Florida just north of...

Dec 30, 2012 - South Florida!

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL ... Sunday, December 30, 2012 We slept in until 8:00 today! That was nice. We slept very comfortably in Walt and Chris' guest room. Before we got on the road today they treated us to Sunday Brunch at their Club. It was very tasty. We stopped to fuel up the vehicles and were heading south on I-95 about 11:45am. Then we stopped in New Smyrna Beach to retrieve Ali's Cat from storage. The nice owner, Clyde and his cute little dog were there to open the front gate and let us in. We have...

Jan 9, 2012 - Loxahatchee Rvr Tour

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL ... Monday, January 9, 2011 It was another beautiful day in paradise! Temps only dropped down to the 60s overnight, and I actually ran the AC for a few minutes during the night. It warmed up early giving us perfect weather for today’s activities. Charlie and I began our day with a bike ride. After a quick bite of breakfast, we rode our bikes over to Sam and Sandy’s campsite. Then we all drove up to the docks by the river in the state park. We paid our $18 (and change) per person for the...

Jan 8, 2012 - Day at the Beach

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL Sunday, January 8, 2011 We have had a great time with Sam and Sandy. They are just so easy going and so much fun to be with. Sandy's mother and Charlie's mother were sisters, and they have both passed away now. Sandy remarked that she thought their mothers would be happy to see us all spending time together like this. She and Charlie really have a nice "cousins" bond. :) Today we all packed a lunch and spent the day on the beach. It was a gorgeous day with perfect temperatures in the mid...

Jan 7, 2012 - Sam and Sandy arrive

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL Saturday, January 7, 2011 On Friday we worked on a few maintenance items in the morning. We figured that we would be busy for the next couple of days once Sam and Sandy arrive. I vacuumed inside and wiped down part of the RV outside. It really needs a good wash, but since we can’t do that in the campground, it’s hard to get that done. We also went to Publix to pick up some shrimp and smoked fish dip for our little “welcome party” tonight. Then we relaxed for a while outside until Sam and...

Jan 6, 2012 - A Hike & Lunch on the Beach

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL ... Thursday, January 5, 2011 Another day passed us by and left us saying “Where does our time go?” Our chore for the morning was to go out and find a place to have our propane tank filled. Charlie located a U-Haul store, and they took care of us quickly. As soon as we returned home, I whipped up some chicken salad and made some sandwiches. We packed a cooler of drinks and then drove to the Hobe Sound Wildlife Refuge. This is located on the other side of U.S. 1 across the road from...

Jan 5, 2012 - Cooler Days

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL Wednesday, January 4, 2011 We have two chilly nights and cool days here in Hobe Sound. Temps has dropped to the mid 30s at night, and it has been cool and very windy during the day. The wind blew so hard that we decided to take the canvas top off on our new canopy. Charlie was afraid that the strong winds may stress it to the point that it would begin to tear. We left the frame up, and it has stood strong. We try not to run our furnace very often because it uses propane. Instead we have...

Jan 2, 2012 - Beach Day

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL Monday, January 2, 2012 This morning we woke up to another beautiful sunny day. We decided to take our walk before breakfast today. The light breeze felt wonderful. When we returned, we enjoyed our coffee outside on the patio. Then we had breakfast outside as well enjoying some grapefruit and toast. Charlie worked on a couple items outside including stringing up his new party lights. : ) Meanwhile I worked inside sweeping and mopping the kitchen and bathroom floors. My niece Alexis...

Jan 1, 2012 - Happy New Year!

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL … Today’s high temp: 85 degrees! Sunday, January 1, 2012 Happy New Year from Hobe Sound! Yesterday we didn’t leave the state park all day. In fact, we barely even left the campground except to take a nice bike road on the trails through the park. If you rode your bike from end of the park to the other and back, you could probably ride at least 15 miles. Our RV repairman showed up shortly after 9:00am yesterday. He advised us that under FL state law a certified propane technician is...

Dec 30, 2011 - Jonathan Dickinson State Park

From Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound, FL … Today’s high temp: 78 degrees! Friday, December 30, 2011 We slept in until about 7:30 this morning. We woke up to the wonderful aromas of coffee and peppered bacon frying up in the kitchen. Chris prepared a wonderful breakfast for us before we took off. In addition to the bacon, she made pancakes and creamy scrambled eggs. It definitely kept us fueled for our drive to Hobe Sound. We stopped to fuel up both vehicles and then made our way south on I-95 to the storage lot to pick up the...

Dec 19, 2011 - Changing our 'Florida' attitudes...

Greetings to our family and friends! How's it all rollin' for you as we approach the end of 2011? We hope you're all a rockin' and happy! Well, we left Georgia singing...and rolled right into Florida on December 7th. Our first several nights were spent in the Ocala National Forest at Salt Springs Park. Ocala is almost directly west and inland from Daytona Beach, and about an hour north of the Orlando area. There is an abundance of natural fresh water springs, rivers, and lakes throughout this entire region...companioned with wonderful...

Sep 27, 2011 - Hanging Out in Hobe Sound

With just a few days to go before we headed to the Keys, we thought we’d go somewhere new so we travelled across the state to the Atlantic coast. A few days by the ocean would do us good. We don’t normally stay in state parks because most of them are older parks designed for shorter RVs, but Jonathan Dickinson State Park, just north of Jupiter, was recently updated, and they put in a lot of longer sites. The campground was really nice, but didn’t have a lot of trees. I think there had been a fire in recent years and that’s why the park was...
