Aug 21, 2015 - Everglades Alligator farm

We left Key Largo and headed toward Everglades Alligator farm and that was the best money we had spent. We went on a air boat ride and that's fun. Zipping along through water or grass. He done probably 5 donuts(that's what I call them) reversing direction at high speed. I really believe that I need one. It would even be fun on the Ohio River I think. It is really a alligator raising farm. They had hundreds at different ages. We watched them wrestle them and feed them

Dec 31, 2014 - pay toll

When tourists come to our beloved Chicago, the first thing they often have to battle after they've survived what has been known as the world's busiest airport, is our tollways. Although there are some freeways, nearly everywhere you want to go involves paying a toll. In addition to being a drain on the pocket, they used to cause a huge clog as car after car waited in line to deposit 35¢ in the machine. Fees have doubled since then, but the lines have lessened greatly since we have been bribed to purchase I-PASS machines. After they are...

Nov 25, 2014 - Easy day on ICW, in Fort Pierce, FL

There was quite a lightning and thunder event from 0230 on this morning. It lit up our cabin and sleep was impossible. We got the anchor up this morning with no issues (that new shackle seems to be doing the job) and headed south in a light drizzle. We had gray skies all morning with no wind. The afternoon brought sunshine but strong winds (23-30 knots) against us. We got under all of the fixed bridges but the VHF antenna ting’d really hard on several of them so we were probably pushing the limits on those. We saw lots of dolphin and had...

Nov 10, 2013 - To Ft. Pierce, FL

We had a restless night; neither of us slept well. We were awake early and waiting for first light so that we could leave. The wind died overnight and the water was like glass at sunrise. We were out of the slip and on our way by 0700. We had 7 fixed bridges and 1 bascule bridge to navigate today. We got under all of the fixed bridges without having to wait. However, our VHF antenna ting’d on each of them. It makes for nervous times. We did enjoy watching the dolphin playing in the ICW. They would swim alongside the boat at times. We...

Jul 2, 2013 - Brunswick, GA to Mt. Pleasant, SC

6/26/13, we leave Brunswick for a very long day to Kilkenny Creek. we were planning on anchoring near Sapelo Island, but the rain in the evenings just wont give us a break to enjoy anchoring. We are not ones to anchor to just save a buck. So, we decided to continue on to here. Good thing we did. This night, a huge storm hit near Sapelo with 60 mph winds. We had some wind, but nothing like that. They had the rain to go with it, and we did too. Our day was 8.5 hrs and we are so tired battling the rain off and on all day. Jeremy got in some...

Jun 25, 2013 - Marineland, FL to Brunswick, GA

UNDER CONSTRUCTION 6/21: St. Augustine After a great time in Marineland, we had a short run up to here, docking up the Sebastian River again River's Edge), where we can walk to everything, including Hurricane Parry's where we met our friends on Mustang II who we met in Vero. They made to their home port of Green Cove Springs and drove over for another get together. We are so blessed to have met so many special people and these two are tops. They sadly are putting their boat up for sale, so we have added them to our prayer list for success....

Jun 19, 2013 - Cocoa Village to Marineland, FL

June 16, we leave Cocoa for New Smyrna Beach with 2nd mate Jeremy on board. Today is 6.5 hrs and an easy run, navigation-wise. Along the way, we had our first mishap with the boat already. We wanted to do some cooking along the way since it was a long day, but John forgot to open the thru-hull fitting that allows cooling water into the generator. So when Sue cranked it up, it promptly overheated, shutting down, not happy. Otherwise, the trip was a nice run with many critters for Jeremy to see. He settled in quite well considering the run is...

Jun 15, 2013 - More Cocoa Village

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Our second week in Cocoa was spent with the kids, Jesse & Amy, and the grandkids- Corey, Tyler and Jeremy (13/1/12 yrs), whom traveled from Charlotte for vacation. They stayed in a hotel at the beach and would pick us up in the morning and we'd return worn out at night. A couple of times, we took the bus over. The beach was great, and the kids had a lot of fun, taking surfing lessons, shopping for new skateboards at Ron Jon's, tons of swimming. John & Jesse got to go deep sea fishing on a charter boat and scared the fish...

Jun 4, 2013 - Fort Pierce to Cocoa Village, FLA

After several great days in Ft. Pierce on 5/23 we travel 2.5 hrs to Vero Beach, another great place that we have to make repeat visits. We anchor in the basin for two days. Our new GPS is really neat. John has it temporarily mounted and hopefully will mount it permanently when he gets some parts that he has ordered. Also, since there is no wind and no current, John runs the boat at different speeds to check the spare prop versus the original prop. The spare is a four bladed prop and the original prop has five blades. Well, it appears that...

May 20, 2013 - Stuart to Fort Pierce, FL

Spent 5/9 thru 5/13 in Stuart, FL at Sunset Bay Marina re-adjusting to the American way of life. We have to admit, we are not doing well for these three days adjusting. After two months of islands, we got very spoiled with our life-style. If it were not for the crossings of the ocean, we'd go over there a lot. We have now crossed four times and none of them were good. We talk with folks who say they have been doing it for years with few problems, so who knows, we may someday give it another shot, but we definitely plan on returning. The...

Feb 5, 2013 - Feb 5, 2013

After breakfast at the hotel Dale and I decided that we aren't going to going on a cruise this trip. The hotel lobby, breakfast area and pool area was wall to wall people this morning. It seems that they are all waiting to be picked up for one of the longer cruises. The thought of dealing with something like that every time you had to get on or off the boat just wasn't too appealing. We did a little shopping and then decided to get out of the rat race of the coast. We drove to Lake Okeechobee a man made lake just off Alligator alley. Our...

Dec 1, 2012 - Good Timing

As the saying goes---"Timing is everything." Good timing is being in Cocoa when there is a performance at the historic Cocoa Playhouse. In our case, it was "A Christmas Carol--The Musical." I read reviews on TripAdvisor and they were all very good. And the reviews not only praised the performance, but said the playhouse was gorgeous. So we went--and are very glad we did. First of all, the interior was amazing--huge crystal chandeliers, a 1000 seat hall with great acoustics, beautifully restored decor--just wonderful! And the performance was...
