Feb 1, 2014 - Fort Myers Art Festival

What are you going to do when the weather is twenty below zero and the snow is piled up to the roof of you home? Maybe pack up your car or motorhome and head on down to Fort Myers, Florida. Stay a day or stay months, come on down and enjoy the weather. We dont have sun shine everyday of the year or 80 degress outside all the time. Just like today the sun is behind the clouds and the temp is close to 80 degrees, so lets go outside to enjoy the weather. We went over to Fort Myers , Florida for the Annual Art's and Craft Festival that is held...

WHAT'S NEW IN 2014

Jan 15, 2014 - Kayaking with Manatees

When the weather gets cold down here (yes, it does get cold, like near freezing at night and in the upper 50s by day), the manatees come in from the gulf and find warm waters so they can survive. In the Orange River, near where it empties out into the Caloosahatchee River, Florida Power and Light empties energy and it warms up the water. It was warmer than the proverbial bath water on this day and many manatees were happy. Manatees are gentle, but big and kind of slow moving. The group of 9 of us had wonderful moments with them while in our...

Dec 9, 2013 - Edison and Ford Winter Estates Fort Myers FL

I left Pembroke Pines and took the time to finally see Thomas Edison's home in Fort Myers on the drive up the west coast of Florida. This brilliant man is immortalized at a 20-acre complex that includes his restored home, botanical gardens, lab, and a museum in Ft. Myers. Both Henry Ford and Thomas Edison had winter homes on the bay at the Caloosahatchee River. Edison also had an extensive laboratory where he was researching alternate sources of rubber. After experimenting over 1700 plants, he settled on the common weed goldenrod as the...

Dec 7, 2013 - Christmas Time Geobash 2013

Today went went down to the Lakes Regional Park in Fort Myers, Florida for a day of fun for the kids and the young at heart. On the way down we saw a nice cool looking thing on the side of a building, had to stop and take a picture. What does a Whale, Al-the gator , pelican and a turtle have in common with a "BIG RED JEEP" and water. Just driving down the road and you may take a double take, my picture does tell the whole thing !!!!!! We have not been to this park for a very long time and the place is so nice and clean. What a wonderful park...

Nov 20, 2013 - Boat Trip to Fort Myers

From our Caloosa Cottage in Alva, FL ... We continue to enjoy settling into our new life here at Oak Park Village in southwest Florida. We are finding that we stay much busier here as opposed to spending our time down here in our RV. That choice is ours, and we actually don't participate in as many of the activities here as most residents do. For instance, last week we had a really nice Veterans Day dinner and program on Monday night. On Wednesday, we had a Welcome Back Yacht Club Breakfast where Charlie and I served sausage gravy and...

On the Road Again

Nov 19, 2013 - Day Trip to Fort Myers

We took a day trip into Fort Myers from our spot in Punta Gorda. It was only a half hour drive but we weren't sure what we wanted to see. If you look on Trip Advisor the winter homes of Edison and Ford are top rated, however we just didn't feel like another estate tour. We had just three things on our list of possibilities; the Burroughs Home & Gardens, the Sun Harvest Citrus Plant and the Boat Show that happened to be going on at the marina. We headed downtown first after once again struggling for parking. All the garages were full due...

Nov 18, 2013 - Sarasota => Fort Myers

Nov 6, 2013 - Sunny Florida

We have arrived in sunny Florida and have been able to spend some time with 2 wonderful friends. Doug and Dee Taylor. We love you guys! We relaxed one day and took a stroll on Marco Island. We have stayed our first week at Shady Acres. They have been wonderful as we have been outfitting our coach and Jim has done some much needed maintenance. It is a beautiful, quiet RV Park and the staff has been incredibly helpful to us. We have had a rough week packing the motorhome, packing the storage unit, repacking the motorhome and swapping things...

Sep 1, 2013 - Sunday At The Water Park

We went out yesterday to break in our water boots, because we were to go up to Myakka State Park for camping and geocaching. We were told that the river was over flowing it's banks and that some of the trails would be wet.So we got our new water boots and wanted to break them in before walking miles. We went out to a place that had a lot of water on the trails, the boots were very nice and we came back with dry feet. Today is Sunday and we wanted to go walking some more before the eight mile hike up at Myakka State Park in a few weeks. We...
