Aug 16, 2015 - Travel to Frankfort, KY

I'm beginning this trip today by flying to Lexington, Ky on Allegiant Airline. Dropped at the airport in Punta Gorda at 3:30 for a 5:27pm flight that didn't happen. The flight came in but never left as it had maintenance issues which could not be resolved. Soooooooo we had to wait for a flight to replace the original which didn't arrive till after 7pm. The 7pm flight did arrive and after boarding we waited another hour before take off. Arrival in Lexington was not until 10:35pm so it was 11:30 before getting to Susan's. Along long long day it...

Mar 24, 2015 - Fort Myers, Florida

In Fort Myers Florida, we spent 4 days. We visited the Thomas Edison and Henry Ford winter estates, botanical gardens and museum. In 1927 Thomas Edison planted a Banyan tree on his property along with other types of fig trees, as part of an experiment to find a reliable American source of latex to make rubber for automobile tires. The Banyan tree is now the largest Banyan tree in the state of Florida with a canopy spread of over one acre. Their picturesque riverfront homes sit right next door to each other on the banks of the Caloosahatchee...

We wanted to go to the Lee County Fair on food bank night , you can get in to the fair if you bring three cans of food for free night. We enjoy eating at the fair each year at the same food place, it has pulled pork or pulled chicken sandwiches with a drink. Walk around to look at the rides and people of course and get to visit with friends and people that we have not seen for a year or two.Go into the 4-H stuff and of course the petting zoo to see the animals. The next to the last stop is to stop at the fish place to see if we can win a...

Today was our last day in Ft Myers. We started the day by heading in to Karen and Chucks. Chuck and Karen had been to the Drs. this morning making the final preparations for Chucks surgery on his kidney. Then we all went to the swimming pool Where Sally, Karen And Chuck went swimming, while I sat under the covered table out of the sun. After a while Chuck and I returned to the house for a short while then returned to the pool. On the way we stopped for a short while at a neighbors house while Chuck petted his friend who is also the...

Feb 26, 2015 - Fort Myers, Florida

As the sun rose in the Walmart parking lot in Saint Marys, Georgia, I went online to check RV parks in Naples or Fort Myers, Florida. If we left now, we'd be there late afternoon. What a shock to find out Florida was completely full this time of year. I called the KOA not far from my son David's apartment, "We have two days in April we could let you have ... " It was the same story at two or three other places I tried. Panic was setting in, I switched over to the "Passport America" website, knowing there wouldn't be any discounts this time...

Feb 23, 2015 - Feb 22nd

Today was a travel day. We finished loading the RV, hooked up the pickup truck and were off for North Fort Myers. We stayed off the Interstate 75 and stayed on US 41, the Tamiami Trail, and paid the price for that in excessively long driving time. We do see a lot more by doing that but sometimes it is a little taxing. After checking in and setting up Sally called her cousin Karen Cook and we went to supper with her and her husband Chuck, at the Golden Corral.

Oct 3, 2014 - Handcock Creek Geocaching

We went out on our first kayaking trail in our new kayak to do some Geocaching on the water. It was a nice day, no rain and just a few clouds out. We went over to Ft. Myers to a county park called Judd park to set sail ( well paddle) in our kayak from the boat ramp. We did not see any people on the creek and this was Friday and I guess most people have to work, sorry for them when we get to play all the time. We got to our first container on the water, signed the log sheet and off to the next container. They have five geocaches on Handcock...

May 20, 2014 - St. Augustine, Florida

Hello! I believe that it's Tuesday, and it's 8:55 PM. Today was a long drive to St. Augustine from Boca Raton. We got to Boca Raton around 9:30 PM, and I just couldn't face trying to find the network boot up, and try to download photos to the trip journal. My apologies. I have some photos from the past several days that I am going to upload for you. I'm not going to take the time to label them right now, but I will do so later. Just looked at all the photos I have taken so far and downloaded them to the computer. There are a few attached....

May 18, 2014 - On the road from Fort Myers to Homestead

Today is Sunday, and we just checked into our rooms at the Courtyard Marriott in Homestead, Florida. We left Fort Myers around 9 this morning, and we just landed. From a swing through Big Cypress--which was not a swamp this time--and then through Everglades National Park, it's been a long day of travel. What I didn't tell you about our excursions in Fort Myers and Ding Darling were some of the wildlife we captured in photos. We never thought we would see river otters, but we DID! There were 3 of them crossing the road--one at a time,...
