Mar 3, 2018 - Tampa to St. Augustine, Florida

The primary purpose of this entry is to document that we were planning to drive from the Tampa cruise terminal to St. Augustine, FL. For those not in the know, this will entail a drive across the width of the state and about half way up the length of the state. In order to enhance our drive, we decided to veer off the GPS indicated path at Daytona Beach and trek up the coast. Clearly, the best way to do this is to drive along Florida's Route A1A. This chosen option took us through the northern part of Daytona Beach, into the much nicer (in...

Feb 6, 2017 - Gamble Rogers State Park

Last summer Ken read glowing reviews about this park. We thought it would be fun to stay here for a while, but even last summer it was almost totally booked for the winter and we feel lucky to be here for three whole days. It's a small park, which began as a beach park. While it's always great to be able to park on the beach, the sites there are on asphalt and have a parking lot vibe. We are in a new section, which is much more spacious and better equipped, but we have to walk across the street to see the surf. We"re close enough that the...

May 15, 2014 - Beach Without a Sunset...

It has been two weeks since we left the Tiffin Motorhome Service Center in Red Bay, Alabama. Our first stop was Stone Mountain, Georgia for a brief visit with my sister, Carol and her family. Carol is a recent breast cancer survivor. It is fantastic to see how well she is doing after having survived this horrific diagnosis. She is thrilled to be done with chemo treatments and that her hair is finally returning. She was hoping for curly....it appears she is getting “50 Shades of Grey.” Afterward we headed to Gaffney, South Carolina for...

Jan 15, 2014 - Flagler Beach

Henry Flagler was a RR Magnet who was a partner of JD Rockefeller. Flagler's railroad moved JD's oil. Flagler built a railroad all along the east coast of Florida and there are many signs of his presence. There is a great State Park at Flagler Beach named in honor of Gamble Rogers (a troubadour of Florida who drowned there in a rescue attempt of another camper). We got our favorite site #34 at the very end of the campground and while the weather was cold (for Florida) we had a lot of great times hiking and on the first warm day, we kayaked...

Dec 30, 2011 - Flagler Beach/Farmers Market

Today we went to see Flagler Beach Campground. We would love to Camphost there one day. Then we found a farmers market and walked around for a while. They had kids that were put inside of a ball and then rolled around in a pool of water. If only I was a kid again.

Dec 23, 2011 - Made it to Florida

Today we left Metter, GA after Tom enjoyed a great breakfast with Dr. Leon W4TYM at a local restaurant and they finished up with the RV Service Net. We met up with some nice folks in Yulee, FL for a nice lunch at the local Chili’s and then they gave us a tour of their town and Amelia Island before continuing to our destination for the night at the Bulow Plantation RV Resort here in Flagler Beach, Florida. We will be spending Christmas with our Son Steve and girlfriend Sarah. We will be here until Jan. 1 when we will start heading west.

May 16, 2011 - Shuttle Launch then Home!

Time to return to Mississippi! Before we leave we wait on the shuttle Endeavor to launch. It was awesome. So glad I got to see it. There were so many people lining the streets watching. On the drive back my grandmother called to inform me that a childhood friend, John Bell, was killed in a car wreck. He will be greatly missed. I ended up staying in Tupelo for a few days instead of going back to Tunica so I could attend the funeral. This is the 2nd funeral I've had to attend since this trip started. I praying for both of their families...

May 2, 2011 - I finally went on the gator trail...

I did it! I hate to say though...I should have kept going the 1st time. Right when I went around the bend in the trail it wasn't scary at all. It was quite beautiful. (I'm talking about the trail with the sign that says "Don't feed the Alligators"). There was a little canoe ramp and me and Nat saw numerous alligator tracks but no alligators. We went on several trails and saw so many critters! The crabs were ridiculous. There were millions of them! And then seeing the dolphins in the river. That was amazing. I think I also saw a manatee but...

Apr 28, 2011 - Flagler Beach Day 2 of Trip 2

I returned to Flagler with part of my family in tow. My mom and little brother joined me. The weather has been perfect. We barely missed the tornadoes. We drove through Birmingham, AL on the way here. My heart breaks for all the families that lost their homes and loved ones. As soon as we get back I'm going to Smithville to help with the clean up.

Apr 10, 2011 - Last Day in Florida

From Bulow Plantation RV Resort I can’t believe it, but we just spent our last day in Florida. Our last few days were very busy though. We took a bike ride with Tom and Pat to see the sugar mill ruins of Buwlow. However, it was Monday and they were closed. There was a hiking trail and from where were it looked like a nice trail that we could ride our bikes on. In the future when it says “hiking” we will NOT try to bike on it! Anyway, the map on the sign said it was a loop. After a few minutes, the path turned into a trail which turned into...

Apr 5, 2011 - Exploring East Coast

From Bulow Plantation RV Park We are still enjoying this great state of Florida. Last Friday we took the bikes and drove out on the beach at Daytona. We rode south down the beach. There was a north/northwest wind and it was at our backs. However, we had to ride back north and it was a little more difficult. Needless to say, we were pretty exhausted when we reached the car. We sat on the south side of the car which blocked the wind and had a nice afternoon on the beach. Saturday we went back to Jacksonville to visit my CSX friend, Rick. He...

Apr 2, 2011 - Sunrise

Floyd woke me up before dawn so I took this opportunity to watch the sunrise. It was gorgeous. It was like it grew out of the ocean. Later that morning I went on a nature trail. I roamed the wetlands for a couple of hours. Even though it looked like I would see one at any moment, I never did see an alligator. They had a sign at the beginning of 1 trail that said don't feed the alligators because it makes them approach humans. I didn't make it very far down that trail. I freaked myself out. I took the sign to mean that someone had already...
