Mar 17, 2013 - Happy St. Patrick's Day
They celebrate St. Patrick's Day down here in the Panhandle of Florida. One thing we've learned in our travels is that RV'ers like to party just like everyone else. Several of the "snowbirds" at the park organized a corned beef and cabbage dinner to celebrate the event. The food was pretty good and it was nice to meet some of the others staying at Carrbelle Beach RV Resort. Lot's of people from the north country (Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois) and Canada spend all or part of the winter in this part of Florida. On Thursday night we...

Jan 13, 2013 - Last day on St George Island (for now)
Hello my friends, What a terrific day here! Took another ride to Apalachicola today. Stopped by the waterfront and explored some of the commercial fishing boat marinas. Being a Sunday, they were all in port. Talked to some folks who explained the different types of fishing vessels. So interesting. When we got back into the campground, we stopped to talk to the folks from the Netherlands with the BIG Mercedes truck camper. It's huge! They have been on the move since 2009. Their goal is to travel around the world. Their website is...

Jan 12, 2013 - Chore day
I was going to list this entry as pooper-dump day but decided to be a little classier. (ha-ha) It was another gorgeous day on the island. Sunny, 70 degrees. Unhooked the Trek and trundled on up to the dump station. Then re-settled the Trek and found that a cute little tree frog had moved into our utility box. We did not bother him, just re-plugged back in and softly closed the cover. Met some nice folks from Alaska today. They were just heading out and stopped to ask us about our Jeep. They live in Anchorage and have a truck camper. Dennis...

Jan 11, 2013 - Day at Camp
A relaxing day at camp - sort of! We started off with a beautiful sunrise.... it was clear! Someone had turned off the fog machines and left them off all day. Hooray! We decided to hike a bit along the nature trail behind our campsite. We went about 3 miles, round trip. Terra was tired by the time we got back. A tired dog is a good dog! Mike washed the Jeep. The salt in the air leaves an awful film on the windshield. I sewed on a quilt top that I had started last May. Understand that I leave a project in the motorhome until it is done so,...

Jan 10, 2013 - The Forgotten Coast
Today we explored a little bit of the Forgotten Coast. From St. George Island, we headed west on Rte 98 to Apalachicola. Love that little town. Very small but lots of neat little shops and friendly people. Also has a very interesting waterfront with a lot of commercial shrimp boats. "You can fry them, you can boil them, you can bake them, etc. etc. etc." From there we went to Port St. Joe. What a beautiful marina. This seems to be the center for sport fishing charters. Some of the boat slips were even covered. Terrific fishing facility for...

Jan 9, 2013 - St. George Island State Park, Florida
OMG! I cannot say it loudly enough! This area is called the forgotten coast of Florida and it is absolutely gorgeous. I had read about this park in one of the motorhome magazines and wanted to stop here. Please check it out if you are ever in the area. St George Island is a little spit of a barrier island and the state park takes up the whole eastern end (2000 acres). Campsites are $26.00 per night with 50 amp service and water at each site. I can hear the surf as I write this! The ocean is just over the dunes from our campsite. The road...

May 3, 2012 - Saint George Island
Sunday we left Eastbank COE Campground and drove 110 uneventful miles to Saint George Island State Park. We visited here in 2010 and fell in love and wanted to come back. It is very difficult to get reservations.....last winter I snagged a 7 night stay! We arrived in early afternoon, dropped the trailer on our site and headed to The Blue Parrot. The Blue Parrot sits right on the Gulf of Mexico and in our humble opinion has the best baked oysters around. We each had a dozen.....and yes.....I had eaten one before I took the picture....just...

Mar 4, 2012 - February 29th
February 29th Well this morning we took a walk on a soft sand trail up the middle of the peninsula and along the beach. We only went a little over 4 miles but it was very tiring. After we settled I went fishing in the gulf using the fish bites we had purchased yesterday. We caught 2 whiting which we had for supper . We had a fire and sat and watched that for an hour or so.

February 28th Good day today, we went birding again with the birding group. Sally has this friend, Roz, who she likes to bird watch with. We took a bike ride after the bird watching. We went 14.5 miles round trip. We found a small store a couple of miles outside the park that had a fishing bait called fish bites., every one here is using fish bites. We stopped at an ice cream store just before getting back to the park entrance. Sally got two scoops of butter pecan and I got one scoop of butter pecan and one scoop of strawberry. It was...

Feb 26, 2012 - February 25th
February 25th The day began quite cool, perhaps in the upper 40s, and warmed up to the upper 50s. Well we took a walk along the beach this morning. We walked along the beach, which is white and wide for about a quarter mile and decided that the cold and wind and cloudy weather was more than we wanted . After returning to the RV we put Beaker in the truck and went to the park entrance where there is a sheltered trail about a half mile long and walked that. We also went out of the park and to a small variety store where we bought some 3 in 1...

Feb 26, 2012 - February 24th
February 24th We woke in the morning to warm breezy, cloudy weather. We went back toward the mainland to try to find a post office. We were getting pretty far with no luck when Sally remembered that we could leave mail at the ranger station and they would mail it. So, we returned to the park and left our mail at the ranger station. Then I went fishing at the marina on the bay side for about an hour. Didn’t catch anything. We returned to our campsite and spent the afternoon. We opened the awning (we rarely open the awning) and sat , just...

Feb 26, 2012 - February 26th
February 26th Quite chilly this morning, must be in the upper 40s. We went on a bird walk even though it was cool. We wore multiple sweatshirts and hat and gloves. The bird walk was interesting. We saw various birds and an otter. The walk was cut short because of the weather. We returned to the camper for a while and later took a ride. We saw several dolphins in the gulf. The trip is drawing to a close and it is sad but home beckons.
