Sep 26, 2018 - Goodbye Florida, Off to Italy

I have finished my 7 month sort term rental in Dunedin, Florida where I have made many friends, enjoyed time with my son Jason living nearby in Clearwater, and played many hours of canasta. Now I'm busy moving out and disposing of 2 1/2 years of accumulation of 'stuff'. Winter clothes from New Jersey (everything I could fit into the car), and beachy stuff for Florida. Now I have to fit everything into 3 suitcases and mailing boxes to St. Croix. But to complicate things, first I'm taking another trip to Italy with just a backpack and small...

May 2, 2018 - On the Road Again

I've not been sure that I wanted to journal this trip as I'm not sure there will be that many interesting events and because much of what does happen will be shared with others who may not wish to have their lives discussed in a journal. We'll see how it goes. I bought the RAV 4 the first week of November, as of this morning it had less than 1,500 miles on it. Have I mentioned how much I love our walkable town? Today's first leg of the next road trip added 407 miles to that total. So I've never been in a situation to use cruise control with...

It is travel day eve of our much anticipated trip to Ireland and..... I'm trying to figure out how to use this new version of the software and if I can use it from my phone. Uploading a random photo to see if that works. ETD tomorrow April 18, 2018 at 11:30a.m.

Ireland 2018

Sep 18, 2017 - Home!!!

I woke up in a horrible mood this morning, full of angst, anxiety and uncertainty. We speculated that perhaps it was just the inevitable let down after the longest and most exciting vacation of my life. As the nearly 400 mile drive wore on, I came to believe it had more to do with deliberately driving into a disaster zone and being braced for the worst. We were living in Houston when Katrina hit New Orleans and participated with other volunteers assisting the evacuees. It was horrific seeing their faces, their shock, their terror at what...

Road Trip 2017

Apr 27, 2017 - Getting Started

So this is just a test entry for me to see how the site works and what can and cannot be changed or added once it is published. For now the plan is to leave Sunday morning, April 30th and spend the first night in Mobile, Al. A distance of 491 miles or about 150 miles further than I like to travel in a day. Still we have two drivers and we're starting out fresh. I had planned on Pensacola (a difference without much distinction as far as mileage goes) but Ron made reservations for Mobile.... citing much cheaper hotel rates. I've been to...

Road Trip 2017

Oct 25, 2016 - Debacle in Dunedin, 294miles

Traveled 294 miles. Pulled into Dunedin, had to setup for one nite till our site was ready. Next morning we went from site 13 to site 26. well site 26 was very tight. and for the first time since fulltimeing I damaged a light pole at the park. I not only damaged it, I destroyed it. it got caught under the truck and I finally freed it. Then just as we got into the site the manager asked if we could set up across the street because they were going to dredge the canal behind our site. So I pulled out of that site into the one across the...

May 6, 2016 - Intentionally Indirect

Here we go again! By “we”, I suppose I mean myself, my teardrop, Sooner Gnome, and all of you readers who go along with me, as well as folks I meet along the way. I certainly never do feel alone as I travel. At the beginning of this trip I have not been alone at all, as I’ve been able to reconnect with some really good friends. I left home a little after my planned 8 am departure on Tuesday. Normally I would not have been on a schedule for departure day, but I had an appointment to be fingerprinted (it’s a requirement for the Park Service)...

Apr 13, 2015 - Five Months at Dunedin RV Resort

Today we are wrapping up five months and the Dunedin RV Resort in Dunedin, FL. Sue is much more active in park activities than I and stayed busy with exercise, water exercise, Zumba, line dancing, and some crafts. I settled in with an excellent internet connection and TV reception and enjoyed Penn State women’s volleyball and men’s wrestling. Scott visited for Christmas and we had a nice forty-ninth anniversary dinner on the waterfront with a beautiful sky. On New Year’s Eve I headed the Honda to Chattanooga for the Southern Scuffle...

Jun 12, 2014 - Living in Dunedin, Florida

This year I decided to sample life living in Dunedin, Florida. This is a unique, small town City with a distinct Main Street, and civic center. It is on the Gulf coast of Florida about 30 minutes from Tampa, and 20 minutes to the wonderful beaches of Clearwater. In fact my current condo is a 10 minute walk down the Honeymoon Island causeway where there are beaches on both sides of the narrow island. My condo sits on the waterfront and has a very nice lounging area with seating on a wharf. I am sampling life in a 55+ community. This works...

Apr 11, 2013 - Park Activities

It is getting near to the day when we will leave on our next meander through the U.S. and Canada. While we have been here Sue has participated in a variety of activities including exercise, dance, and water exercise. There have been several eating activities that I joined in. Today we had a nice pot luck dinner with about 40 fellow campers at a campsite near the lake at the east end of the park.

Mar 17, 2013 - Another Race

I had another run this weekend. This time Sue joined me. We ran the Florida Beach Halfathon and 5K respectively. The race is run at Fort Desoto County Park south of St. Pete Beach. The half marathon covers all of the island and is run mostly on bike paths. There were about 800 runners and we were pretty spread out my the time we reached the finish. I finished 6th (and last) in my age group but, as I crossed the finish line, was happy to arrive in time to see Sue get her medal for finishing 1st in her age group in the 5K. Annie was with us...

Feb 25, 2013 - Dunedin RV Resort

This morning Glenna and I moved north from Bradenton to Dunedin. We decided to do the western route, which included the Sunshine Skyway Bridge that spans Tampa Bay. It was a beautiful drive, considering it included the 4.1 mile bridge, and Glenna would rather avoid bridges. Glenna took many pictures, and I’ve uploaded a few. This afternoon we booked in at Dunedin RV Resort. We have stayed at this park before, and find it to be a perfect location to stay if we are taking in a Blue Jay game. We didn’t get to the ball park until about a half...
