May 3, 2010 - UPDATE: Henderson Beach State Park

(5,271) Update: Monday 5/03/2010 Location: Henderson Beach State Park, Destin, Florida. Weather: Warm..Highs near 80, Lows in the 70’s Howdy Family and Friends: This morning started off with just clouds and lights winds off the beach. As the day wore on the weather turned very nasty. Heavy rain and wind pounded us. Thunder and lighting was the calling card of this big dude rolling through the small towns of Destin and Fort Walton. We had a very short time to take a few pictures of the surroundings near the RV and some pics of the beach...

Mar 11, 2010 - Destin, FL

Woke up to pouring rain, and after checking the FL weather we decided to skip central FL and go to the panhandle instead. I found Geronimo RV Park in the CCUSA book. No frills, but it had availability and it is close to the beach. We drove on some crazy bumpy stretches of road, especially US-331. So bad that our shelving in the garage came crashing down. Luckily, there was no damage to the trike. We checked in and discovered we were at the beginning of spring break – it was about to get crazy in Destin. The weather was warm and sunny that...

Winter/Spring - 2010

Jan 27, 2010 - Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

Today we got great news from Jason. He and Jackie went to see the neurologist. Jason's blood clots in his chest, which formed while he was in a coma, are gone. The sporadic activity and swelling in his brain is decreasing. His brain is getting better! At this point he will stay on delantin. We are still waiting for the results of the tests sent to New York. Jason has been told he can play recreational hockey; he is pretty happy about that. It is wonderful seeing Jason making continual improvements. Today we toured Topsail Hill Preserve...

Dec 13, 2009 - Farewell to the Hotel California

Hi - After 26 years I've left California. Took a long cross-country drive and just enjoyed the scenery. Love the old Route 66 landmarks. I stayed in what we used to call motor courts in my distant youth. Only now they're run by friendly couples from India. Go figure. Much more interesting than the chains. Spotless, updated with wi-fi, fridges and microwave. I've uploaded a few photos of some of the interesting spots along the way. My new digs are at Sandpiper Cove, Destin, FL - the heart of Florida's Emerald Coast. That's the Redneck...

Nov 28, 2009 - Destin

Destin Saturday morning found us once again packing up and loading the bike. We have this down to a pretty smooth routine now; but this morning we were interrupted by a phone call. It was Sam! He was taking his lovely wife and son out for breakfast at Cracker Barrel; which happened to be right beside the interstate that we would drive out of town on. He was calling to see first, if we were still home, and second, if we would like to join them for breakfast. We were still about 10 minutes from blast off, so happily we accepted the...

Nov 1, 2009 - Destin, Florida

Today marks a major milestone in our travels. We return to Florida and for the first time we know where we are going! By that, of course, I mean that we have been to this campsite in Destin before and the surroundings and area will be familiar. It will be somewhat of a novelty to know where things are and what to expect. We haven’t seen the ocean since we returned from our cruise in Alaska so to see the Gulf of Mexico with the blue sky and powder white sand makes me realise just how much I miss being close to the sea. Here we are with...

I guess our luck with the weather has run out! It rained in the night and has rained most of the morning. But the sun is peaking through and it is supposed to be nice tomrrow and on Sunday. We plan on heading for Tennessee on Monday and then through Ohio and on to home. Barney has decided to start growing his winter coat and I started one on my chin.
