We turned out of the campground about 9:30 and headed east on I-4 to Universal Studios for the day. For those of you that have never been there, they have 2 parks – the original Universal Studios and the newer Islands of Adventure. US has rides and shows, most of which are based on TV and movies. IoA has more roller coasters – a couple are really good – but the majority of attractions are still TV and movie related. Surprising right? We parked, hit the Will Call kiosk, got our tickets, walked through the turnstile and headed straight for...

Greetings from tonight’s thrilling location…Davenport. Still. That’s right fans, we haven’t moved. Nope, this isn’t a typo or a flashback. I called Cindy at Low-Key Hideaway in Cedar Key and we couldn’t get a campsite until Thursday so we made another little plan adjustment and decided to stay here for another 2 nights. Today, we are going to catch up on some cleaning and restocking and tomorrow we took up a friend’s offer of tix to Universal Studios. Nice to have flexibility in your schedule…and friends. Also nice to not put gas in the bus...

The shuttle left the campground office right at 9:15 and we were at the Disney Transportation Center by about 9:40 for the start of a long day at The Rat. We took a bus from there to Animal Kingdom and commenced to wandering. We covered pretty much all of the park except for the areas that were too “kid” oriented. We avoided those areas for 2 reasons – there isn’t much there to interest us since we are not kids, and because of the Veteran’s Day Holiday the park was overrun with kids. That was a strategic error on our part. We should have...

The morning of November 11 we left Jacksonville and drove to Davenport, FL for a one month stay at Theme World RV Resort. Davenport is 20 miles southwest of Orlando and about 7 miles southwest of Disney World. We bought passes for 6 days of entry into any of the Disney Parks. The passes must be used within 14 days of first use. We plan to visit Epcot twice, Animal Kingdom once, Hollywood Studio once and The Magic Kingdom twice. I will add additional entries for each of the parks at a later date.

Greetings from tonight’s thrilling location…Davenport. Still. That’s right fans, we haven’t moved. After hooking up the Jeepster and disconnecting the sewer in preparation for our departure to parts unknown, we huddled and after some coin tossing, we decided to stay put for 2 more nights. But we now have a plan that we intend to stick to. Really. We called Debbie and Alan Sanchez, the parents of Brett that Kyle played baseball with at Pembroke Lakes years ago to arrange a short visit. We have kept in touch with them over the years and they...

We were up fairly early today to meet our friends for breakfast before we headed off to the Fantasy of Flight attraction SW of the campground. We met Tom and Shirley and their son Tommy and his wife Chris at Perkins about 9:45 and sat and caught up with them for over an hour, then we drove around the corner to the campground and gave them the deluxe tour of our home on wheels. Tommy’s brother and I were best friends in high school and Tommy and my brother Brian were friends. And conveniently, his wife Chris and Michele were friends too, so...

We pulled out of Oscar Scherer State Park and headed south on US 41 for a couple miles then northeast on Hwy 681 to I-75, then north to I-4 and east to the intersection with US 27 to our home for a couple nights at the KOA campground in Davenport. The trip was pretty painless except for a delay east of Tampa because of some road repairs but still only took about 2 hours. We set up camp and I fought with an internet connection problem for about an hour until I finally outsmarted it – yeah, we’ll call it that. Then we made some phone calls to...

Oct 26, 2012 - Uncle Fred Visit
After resting yesterday, Sally and I went to Davenport, FL to visit with her uncle and aunt. It was about 90 miles over there, half on back roads. It was a nice drive, with orange trees with riper oranges on them (I wanted to stop and pick some but Sally said NO!!), and lots of fields with all kinds of crops. The visit was good, as Sally has not seen her uncle for about 10 years or more. After today, my back is killing, but hopefully Monday that will be taken care of. Moxie met another new friend today, it is a Yorkie. Moxie has all kinds...

Apr 7, 2012 - Celebrate good times
What a way to end our stay at Davenport. The four of us took our bikes to Celebration Fl and road over 8 miles. What a town! It is a planned community that was originally built for Disney workers so you can imagine how nice it must be. Numerous pond/lakes and green areas surround beautiful homes with immaculately kept lawns. Multi use trails go in and out though the woods. Just a beauty. We stopped for lunch at Joe's Crab Shack and there was NO WAIT. Not used to that. We headed to a local park and hiked a couple of miles to a pioneer...

Great day yesterday. We started by doing trip planning for our next 5 months with Don and Jeanne. We checked our agendas and it appears we will be together for about 26 days this summer in a variety of places. We blocked out our time table and look forward to our continuing adventure that will take us to such places as Key West, Louisville, Springfield, Kokomo, Vermilion, Elmira, Long Island, California, Wisconsin, 1000 Islands, Vermont, N.H. and Maine, D.C., down the coast thru Maryland, and eventually back to Florida and Neptune Beach....

Apr 5, 2012 - Lazy Day
Not much going on yesterday. Justin and Gwen left heading north for a few days on the coast before returing to the Raleigh NC area. We bade them farewell with an easer basket complete with a "Porky Pooper" jelly bean dispenser. It was sunny and in the low 90's so the pool was a good option. Shirley continued her sewing. My new glasses came in. No more sunglasses, these darken on their own! Don and Jeanne came over for the beginnings of planning for meeting up over the summer. We will be together in June and August for various events and...

Apr 4, 2012 - Walkin' Disney and visitin' a spell
We split up yesterday with Shirley going to visit a friend and the rest of us going to Disney World. Don, Jeanne, Justin, Gwen and I left early for the parks. We got there when it opened hit the hot spots of Disney Studios first. Then we headed over to Animal Kingdom which is one of my faves. It was a beautiful but hot day in the 90's and the water ride was just what the doctor ordered, we got soaked! We took a mid day 4 hour break and went to one of the resorts and hung out at the pool and had dinner. Next we boated to the Magic Kingdom...
