Jan 10, 2020 - Cocoa Beach Quality Inn and Suites

Jan10 Yesterday, we walked over 8 miles according to our fitbit.  It was just under 20,000 steps.  We went to the beach early this am to see the sunrise.  It was very cloudy, so even though it wasn't spectacular, it was still beautiful.  Funny story. Even though we travel a lot, it seems something weird or odd happens every time.  After the beach we went to the front desk to schedule our shuttle to the cruise ship. So she asked what ship we were on. And we told her Carnival Dream.  She said that that is not one of the 3 Carnival ships in...

Jan 9, 2020 - Cocoa Beach Quality Inn and Suites

Jan 9 It got down to about 54 this am but then up into the mid 70's this afternoon.  We tried the cinnamon waffles at our free breakfast, and they were delicious! After breakfast, it was warm enough for shorts and a t-shirt, despite a strong wind.  So off we went, walking up North Atlantic Avenue to Publix and then down the beach to the Cocoa Beach Pier. We continued down the beach to just south of our hotel. Then off to the Publix south of us as we wanted to grab some real maple syrup for the waffles.  After a quick stop at the Dollar...

Jan 8, 2020 - Burlington to Cocoa Beach

Jan 8 Yay! We made it.  Flights were good. We left at 5:30 am and we arrived in Orlando about 11:35. After picking up Jim's carry-on which was checked due to no room overhead, we were on the shuttle and in Cocoa Beach by 1.  Along the road from Orlando, there is a lot of construction. Our shuttle driver with 888 transportation said they are building a high speed rail from Orlando to the beaches. It should take about 4 years to complete.  We were the only 2 passengers on the shuttle. The Quality Inn is about a 5 min or less, walk to the...

Feb 28, 2019 - Cocoa Beach and Capones

Finally made it to Cocoa Beach. It had been a while but we visited Ron Jon's Surf shop and laid at the beach. It was a warm clear day and the waves were about 2 to 3 feet. On our way back we stopped at a seafood restaurant and had lobster fritters and salads. We had no idea in advance but the salads were huge with shrimp and crab salad. Had to bring some of it back with us. Had bingo again this week and won nothing. Then last night we had a jam session where locals played songs on guitars and violins. Very talented people. We met a couple...

Up and Rovin

Jan 30, 2015 - where's the surf?

We asked our Kennedy Space Center guide the best place to view the next rocket launch (for free) and he recommended Port Canaveral. The port started out as a small fishing port, but burgeoned when the space center was built. Many of the materials that sent men to the moon and supported them in this effort came through the port. When this building frenzy was over, the facilities were turned into a cruise terminal. The Disney ships make their home here and are joined by some from other cruise lines. Two ships were in port and the place...

Nov 24, 2014 - Anchored off the town of Cocoa Beach, FL

It has been another good day. In the early morning it looked like we were heading toward rain, but we never did run into any. We had mostly blue skies with some clouds and warm temperatures (75-80 deg.) Raising the anchor went smoothly this morning. Perhaps the new shackle is the solution. We had adequate clearance at all of the fixed bridges (9) and all of the bascule bridges (5) gave us timely openings. And we passed over the low water spot at Ponce Inlet at high tide and saw only deep water. We did not run aground even though we traveled...

Nov 21, 2014 - Lost in space..

I admit it, I just had to go back to Ron Jon's surf shop! I did restrain myself and I waited until it was light. And I just had to take a picture of this cool place for you to see. We also went to the Kennedy Space center today. It was a huge place, with lots to see. It was hard to take in all the exhibits, as it is a big place. I think the space shuttle exhibit was my favorite, as you went into this room and it was like you were taking off from the launching pad, in the shuttle. Plus it was kinda cool to look at all the old rockets and...

Heading to the East!

Nov 20, 2014 - Ron Jon's Surf shop

On Monday, the tornado warning turned out to be true, and the campground hosts came over & told us to take down all our antennas and to put in your slide outs. And to go to the shelters. By the time we got everything down and in, we were in the midst of the bad winds. (Spike was tracking this on his phone.) So we just stayed put and rode out the wind. They say it gusted to 54 mph! God is good and no tornado, just lots of wind! (I think maybe our west coast small earthquakes are easier to deal with. Even if you have no warnings that they're...

Heading to the East!

Sep 24, 2014 - Day 19

Hey Everyone, I will have to keep it short tody as the place we are staying does not have internet in the rooms only in the lobby, which the clerk explained to us like a steward on a plane pointing out the emergency exits. So our day was pretty casual as we travelled from Marathon in the Florida Keys to Miami where we made a stop at Hollywood Beach to get our feet wet in the Atlantic Ocean as well as enjoying a drink in one of he bars that lined the beach. Next we continued to Fort Lauderdale for a visit to the Apple Store so Gaz could grab...

Feb 18, 2014 - Trip to Brevard County Zoo

I did not write for a while as we were staying at Patrick AFB and not much was going on. Some new things that we did this year included a visit to Brevard County Zoo which we enjoyed and I won $50.0 gift card and large stuffed tiger, we drove 210 miles each way to Cape Coral to have a lunch with our friends, and on one cold day we visit motor home dealer which turn expensive as we decided to trade in our Serrano and get brand new Allegro by Tiffin. We love the new coach, however it needs a new radio and our dealer does not know why the...

Jan 24, 2014 - January coming to an end!

Time flies when you have a fun. January went by fast, we had a share of cold days, very windy days, and some rain. We did not do anything spectacular but with this not so warm weather we ventured to surrounding town and checked available real estate there is a lot to choose from and price range is from $5K to $5M. After few home viewing trips we decided that we are not ready yet to settle in Florida, as long we can drive we will be camping because if we do not like weather or location we just pack and move to a new place. We were planning...

Our trips

Jan 1, 2014 - Christmas/New Years

So we survived the Christmas. Spent some money when we went shopping to buy LED lights for Pete’s new project and some clothes, Florida style. We had a few rainy weather days and it cooled down to the sixties. Few days ago we went to American Legion for supper, Polynesian was the theme music and food, it was nice to see a bunch of veterans having a good time. Last night was New Year Eve and we went to the Manatee Marina Club which is located on the base. It was fun watching old timers as us dancing to the latest beats. Plenty of food and...
