Mar 31, 2013 - Chattahoochee, FL

3/31/2013 Sunday Ocala, FL to Chattahoochee, FL We pulled out of the RV park shortly before noon. The weather was absolutely beautiful! Today is Easter Sunday and the traffic was extremely heavy all day. Each rest area was crowded and a couple of times we took the last parking spot available. Every type of travel trailer, fifth wheel, motor home and trailer was on the road today. When we pulled in to the KOA in Chattahoochee around 5pm I was surprised to see only about one third of the park was occupied. However, by nightfall well over 50%...

May 9, 2012 - More on St George Island

Did I ever say we love St George Island? Yep, we do......from the campground with nice large, level sites and old Florida feel to the beautiful blue....most of the time...Gulf of Mexico and the white sand beaches(8 miles of pristine beaches in the state park)....the huge sand dunes and the abundance of wildlife....and the fresh seafood. Yes, it is all good. But with all of that, there is more. Just the drive across the bridges to the island is eye candy. Blue waters of Apalachicola Bay, Oystermen racking for oysters, people fishing from...

May 7, 2012 - Moments of Nature

During our two visits to St George Island we have enjoyed the beauty of the island as well as its abundance of wildlife. Since we don't get into the "backcountry" often the pictures were all taken in areas where everyone has access to view it. The first pictures are of three Great Blue Heron nest. This rookery was by a freshwater pond on the road into the campground. We usually looked at the pond to see if we could see any birds fishing in the pond. About the 4th day we were at St George I saw 4 White Egrets in the trees.....and then I...

May 3, 2012 - Heading South

We left Valdosta heading west and south to Chattahoochee, FL and Eastbank COE Campground on Lake Seminole. Lake Seminole is actually in Georgia but to get to Eastbank you have to enter from the Florida side....no roads in Georgia go to the campground. Eastbank is a nice COE park. It has 3 loops....two which sit on the lake's shore and a 3rd they sits back from the lake. The third loops campsites looked short and they were all dirt pads. Our site #21 was a concrete pad and patio....really nice. However, its shape was really weird. It was...

Mar 6, 2010 - Moving, Moving, Moving

Welcome to 2010…. I am so far behind on our journey that I could never catch up without the help from some of our friends that told me to feel free to copy their blog since we were all doing the same things. Thanks Janice and Dean. I owe you. Shortly after we got back from our little jaunt during the holiday season we had friends joining us at Wilderness Park… First arrivals were Janice and Dean… We did do a few things with them that I have already told you about but Dean got sick first and Janice followed about a week later. They didn’t...

Mar 18, 2009 - Chattahoochee, FL

Today we stopped near Tallahassee to spend a few days. We are staying on the shores of Lake Seminole, and while here we took a couple day trips into Tallahassee to see the museums and the state Capitols. They have two buildings, the new contemporary capitol and the old original building which is now a great museum. We had a nice stay here.

Jan 13, 2009 - Lake Seminole, GA

We drove from Orlando to Lake Seminole - which was only a few miles north of I-10 - on Tuesday, Jan 13. We drove through a rain storm that had the really cold weather behind it. It was clear by the time we got to Lake Seminole, but the weather was definitely cooler. It was a bit refreshing after 5 days of disney world. The peace and quiet was wonderful! Beautiful lake, too. Too bad we have to leave on Wed. We're trying to make tracks west because we'd rather spend time at some of the parks out west, and we've been in Florida for a month,...

Mar 18, 2008 - Chattahoochee

Drove to Chattahoochee on the 7th. Drive was terrible. Rained like cats and dogs. Cars off the road. Accidents. Even the highway patrol was stuck in the mud in the median. The worst we seen was 2 semis, a truck and a car. The panhandle is very different. Rolling hills and beautiful lakes. Although we were only 1 mile off the interstate it was secluded. Small, woodsie and very restful. We visited Tallahassee on Saturday. The visitor center at the capitol was closed. It's on the back side of the building. Lovely garden and benches. The...
