Apr 10, 2021 - Rocketry

We missed the SpaceX launch on Wednesday, but we did manage to be here for the return of the booster rocket today. We ran up to a vantage point across the inlet from their docking area. Here are a couple pictures of the booster and the recovery vessels.

Winter 2020-2021

Apr 9, 2021 - Cape Canaveral

Our days in Florida are winding down. We're in our final couple weeks for this season. Yesterday we left Jonathon Dickenson State Park in Hove Sound and headed North on I-95. We're here for two weeks, sitting on the beach and watching all the marine traffic in the inlet. So this is just a quick note to update our location. I'll try to add some more while we're here.

Winter 2020-2021

Apr 25, 2019 - At The Beach

We've spent the past 3 days here on the beach at Jetty Park at Port Canaveral. The weather couldn't have been better, with blue skies, warm temperatures and a nice breeze off the ocean. We didn't do much more than sit back and enjoy. We did get to meet up with MaryBeth and Fred again and had a good time with plenty of memories and laughter. Tomorrow begins the northward trek.

Winter2018-2019

Apr 12, 2016 - Cape Canaveral

We spent 4 days in the Three Flags RV Park in Wildwood, FL. We got to go over and drive around The Villages a couple times, take in a show or two at the Brownwood Town Square. We did meet up with Bill and Kathy and had dinner and a nice time with them. We pulled out on Sunday the 10th and headed across to the East Coast. We're here in Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral. This is the county park right on the ship channel so we get to watch the cruise ships coming and going. There seems to be very little boat traffic in the channel compared to other...

Mar 19, 2016 - Space Coast

We moved up the coast to Cape Canaveral, but not after some wandering trying to find a gas station. It's another GPS story. We started out about 1030 with the intention of stopping for gas before we got on I95. I located a Shell station on the GPS and dutifully followed the directions, but when the GPS said we got there, no Shell station, not even a gas station. I found another Shell on the GPS and set out to get there. After a few turns we found us back where we had started about a half hour before. When we actually reached the Shell...

2016 Winter Trek

Nov 2, 2015 - Cape Canaveral and Jetty Park

We spent some time at Cape Canaveral, in the shadow of the NASA launch Pad, and adjacent to the cruise terminal. We also took a side trip to visit Ormond Beach, where many memorable times of my childhood were spent. The Cape was a perfectly lovely spot, even though there were no launches when we were physically camped there - but we did see one when we drove up to the Cape from Sebastian Inlet to see the Space-X launch. This night launch was an outstanding sight, made even more special by the fact that this rocket booster, after...

Sep 18, 2015 - NASA

Today we disembarked the ship and spent the rest of the day at NASA. We saw the Shuttle Atlantis which was incredible. We were lucky enough that there was a retired member of the Shittle program volunteering, and he was very interesting to talk with. Tonight we stay near the Orlando airport and tomorrow we fly to Los Angeles.

Mar 30, 2015 - The party's over

Monday morning came all too soon. Jim and family left the ship as early as they could and actually got the kids to school on time. Poor Alex had the state tests. Andy and family came back to our house for a few hours and then we drove them to OIA for their flight home. Michael came to the port to pick up Shelby. All in all it was great fun but way too short.

Jan 29, 2015 - NASA Kennedy Space Center

Hello Everyone, Today we joined our North East Truck Camper friends and visited the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. In our 2 day visit there we had a chance to get up close and visit an Apollo Rocket and the Shuttle Atlantis! These were spectacular and a must see when there! We also saw 2 great 3D IMAX movies about the Space Shuttle missions and the Hubble Telescope - both fantastic! As always, our time spent with our Truck Camper friends at Jetty Park was great! To see all the fun, click on the following...

Jul 30, 2014 - On the east coast

Here we are at Cape Canaveral on the jetty where the cruise ships depart. We left on several cruises from here when we were living in Florida. We drove down the coast today to Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island. Tomorrow we will venture toward the west coast and do more exploring. See you then..... Donna

Feb 25, 2014 - Steampunk Cruise - Day 3 (NASA)

We continue to cruise out of New Jersey on our way to the Bahamas. Today we arrived at our first port of call - Port Canaveral Florida around 1 PM. We had a private bus tour arranged for part of our steampunk group (about 45 of us) of the NASA Kennedy Space Center. The NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC) was about a 40 minute drive away from the port. Along the way we saw alligators and turtles in the ponds along the roadside, lots of birds (such as egrets, herons, spoonbills, vultures, a bald eagle, etc), a pair of bob cats, and some wild...
