Jan 21, 2011 - Back to Disney World

We left Deer Creek Golf Resort on the 19th. We stayed at this park for 9 days. I think JC walked a little bit of it twice. We were gone the rest of the time. I may have said this before, but this park is huge. Probably the biggest yet. It has been designed in stages. There are a lot of park models but I did not get the same cramped feeling that so many of these types of parks give me. This park is interested in selling lots and creating a community of 55+. It is very well established with a great looking golf course. Deer Creek participates...

Jan 15, 2011 - The Wheels on the House Go Round and Round

I guess there comes a point on the thermometer when you just say enough is enough. That point came for us sometime on Thursday morning when we really started questioning our judgement about staying some place that was far too cold for our liking. In the old days (days when we had jobs) we had no choice. Now, however, not only do we have a choice, but the house has wheels and all we have to do is turn the ignition. Well, unhook the utilities, secure everything for travel, air up the tires, pull in the slides, hitch the car, and then turn the...

Dec 29, 2010 - Dade Battlefield Historic State Park

175 years ago, plus a day, Seminole Indians ambushed U.S. soldiers who were going from a fort near what is now Tampa to Ocala. They were traveling on a road through Seminole country. The Indians were very unhappy that the government was telling them that they had to leave their homeland and move to Oklahoma. The Seminoles attacked the soldiers on the morning of December 28, 1835 killing all but three of them. We visited the battlefield which is a state park this afternoon. We saw a brief movie about the battle that led to the first Seminole...

Dec 25, 2010 - A Warm Christmas with Strangers

It may seem odd to say this, but sharing a Christmas dinner with strangers is very enjoyable. This is the second time we have been by ourselves in our motorhome for Christmas, but we have shared a Christmas dinner with other campers. Strangers soon become friends. We have a lot in common. Our Christmas dinner was a pot luck dinner. Here's how it worked. There were ten at each table and about 10 tables all together. Ham and turkey were prepared by cooks in the kitchen and we each chipped in $2.00 for the meat. Ahead of time hosts for each...

Dec 23, 2010 - Days in Central Florida

It's been a week since I made an entry in this blog. We left Orlando on Saturday. It was raining but lightly. We had an hour's drive to a campground near, Bushnell, a small town in central Florida. We are staying here for two weeks. It is an Escapees campground, which is an organization that we belong to. We have stayed in Escapees campgrounds in Livingston, Texas, north of Houston, and Coarsegold, California, near Yosemite. It's nice to be here during the holidays because we can participate in the community's activities. We are...

Nov 29, 2010 - And another driving day

I got up this morning and really didn't want to drive, but I had to! This was the first time in 5 years of RVing that I didn't want to drive! I think it was because I had just driven many miles without stopping to see what's in the area for a day. I did get to the Escapees Park here in Bushnell in mid-afternoon and while I was setting up camp, 3 sandhill cranes wandered over to eat some of the many live oak acorns that are all over the ground. That picked me up a bit. Did you know that putting 3 tennis balls in your dryer with your clothes...

Oct 10, 2010 - Day Twenty Nine - Florida's West Coast

Hello Everybody, Well after a busy couple of days, today we were back on the road for the drive towards New Orleans. We started off with a drive along the Tamiani Trail and through both the Evergaldes and Big Cypress National Parks. Whilst we did not stop in either park, just vdriving through was good enough as thee scenery was awesome and we had never seen so many birds of different types in our lives including a pack of vultures cleaning up some road kill. We stopped in the city of Naples for lunch at my new favourite restaurant Cracker...

Apr 18, 2010 - April 16-20, 2010 Bushnell, FL

Breezy Oaks RV Park Right off the I75 but the noise is not too bad. The park is nice and the staff was friendly. They didn't have my reservation but found a place for us. The sites are small and the roads are narrow. We were fine when we got there as there were not a lot of people but as it got crowded the rigs were really close. Then we had to back up and pull through the site next to ours to get out as our rig is too tall to get under the tree limb above our site. They have a decent pool and a small putting area that was nice. Close to...

Feb 20, 2010 - The Villages and Bushnell

In our search for a winter roost, the Escapees park, Sumter Oaks, in Bushnell was on our list to visit. Like the other escapees parks, they have a 4 o’clock social every afternoon and we wanted to be there for that. It would give us an opportunity to meet more folks and thus get a better feel for the park than we would just driving around. Sumter Oaks is much smaller than the Plantation at Summerdale. They have about the same number of campsites (99) and about the same number of ERPU lots (25), but there are no stick houses and the...

Feb 16, 2010 - Tires and the Florida National Cemetery

We started our day with buying four new tires for Clyde. Although this is an expense one never looks forward to it was expected. These tires are the first we have bought for Clyde (we are Clyde’s first owners) so we can’t complain as we had over 40K miles on his original tires. After finishing with our tire purchase we enjoyed a pizza in Clyde then decided we would spend this sunny, albeit chilly, afternoon paying our respects to those who have served our nation and are now interred at the Florida National Cemetery located within the...

Feb 8, 2010 - Hiking The Villages

Today was sunny and temperate so we decided to drive over to The Villages for lunch and an afternoon hike. The Villages, for those that may not know, is a retirement community located about 30 miles north of where we are in Bushnell. When walking through the streets of the The Villages we felt as if we had landed in “Disneyland for adults”. Everything one would need or want (shops, medical services, entertainment, golf courses, shuttle services, etc.) is within a short golf cart ride away. We chose to walk for the exercise, but we did see...

Feb 2, 2010 - Nellie and Blayde

I generally restrict the use of this travel journal to only posting pictures and descriptions of places and people we visit on our fulltiming adventure, however, I have two little tidbits I want to share with you which occurred today. These two tidbits aren’t directly related to our current location, but grant me a moment anyway… The first tidbit has to do with our GPS. We are so thankful to own a GPS (thank you again to my parents for gifting it to us back when we were starting out as fulltimers) and we use it each time we drive. Willis...
