Oct 24, 2017 - Slowly Settling In

Michelle had a great time in Ottawa visiting the kids and in Toronto, at our neice's baby shower. When she was done, it was time to do the 20hr drive back south to the RV in Florida. While Michelle was away for the week, Mike got caught up on chores. Michelle had left a HoneyDo list on the whiteboard of things like insulating back windows, putting up sun shade extensions on the large awning, fixing little bits here and there and he changed the water filter under the kitchen sink. He also washed part of the kitchen floor after noticing the...

Oct 10, 2017 - North South North South North

Okay, what could ever go wrong when your travelling the dream trip of a lifetime? Yesterday we pulled into our park for the winter... with both of us we in the 'Here for a long time' frame of mind. But then the reality hit us. Michelle had to head back to Canada for our niece's baby shower, and it seems that all the rental cars in the area were evacuated along with the arrival of hurricane Nate. After setting up camp yesterday, today we ended up having to pull up our jacks and drive back north 30 miles to a local airport where there was the...

Oct 9, 2017 - We're Home for the Winter

After being on the road for three weeks, we've finally gotten to the end of our journey for this part of the trip. From Ottawa, through the east coast provinces, seeing family and where Michelle's family originally settled in Canada, and then taking ferries (some short, some long), we've arrived at our destination in Bushnell, Florida, Paradise Oaks RV Resort. Mike had seen this RV park on the internet, it was going through lots of upgrades over the past year and with this as our tease, we followed up on it. And we are glad we did! After...

Aug 31, 2017 - The Final Facts!

Gone - 41 days. Drove 4321 miles through 18 states. Paid $50.30 in tolls. Stayed in 14 hotels and 2 cabins. We collected license plates and managed to see 48 out of 51. (District of Columbia) We even took a picture of the elusive gold star license plate sighting Hawaii. Still missing were South Dakota, Wyoming, and Idaho. Time to plan the next one!

The Long Way Home

Aug 24, 2017 - Bushnell, Florida

Today we did about 295 miles to Bushnell (I wonder if the binoculars are made here…I don’t think so) Florida…almost home. We’re staying at a “Sun Resort” (as opposed to Good Sam or KOA, called Blueberry Hill. It’s really a senior/snowbird seasonal living place with all the amenities…clubhouse, big pool, pool tables, gym, horseshoes, pickleball courts, meeting hall, pavilion, etc. etc…but they have a transient side which is pretty deserted right now. They probably have a hundred spaces with only about 10 occupied tonight. Everything is...

Aug 14, 2017 - Pecans and Atlanta - July 14, 2017

On Friday July 14 we began a six week road trip. The first day we stopped 3 times in the pursuit of cheap pecans. The 3rd stop was to see if he got a good deal at the second stop. We spent an hour and 45 minutes getting through Atlanta. My left brain husband also likes to drive in the left lane whether there are 8 lanes or just 2. Even when it is obvious other lanes are making better progress. I keep these thoughts to myself after all this is just day one. At one point during the Atlanta marathon the outside temperature read 100 degrees....

Jan 31, 2017 - Packing it Up - January 2017

5 days till takeoff. We have done a packing test run to see if we make the weight limit in each bag. So far so good if we don't take any shoes. They pack on the weight. More adjustments. We both packed lots of band aids in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Him because of blood thinners and any pressure scape will make him bleed. Me because I do do stupid things. Shaving with a dull razor, puncture wounds, paper cuts, and reaching around and in things with my hands where they have no business being. However the weight of them does not...

Jan 14, 2017 - Too Much Prep - November 2017

It has been a regular Aussy film fest here at the Robertson's. Australia the epic 2 1/2 hour movie with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. Quigley Down Under with Tom Selleck, Muriel's Wedding, The Dressmake and The Rabbit Proof Fence even a strange version of Mad Max. I have read Bill Byron's "A Sunburnt Country" which is both a travel log and the history of Australia. Robin Davidson's "Tracks" that was the true story of a woman who crossed the outback alone over 1700 miles with three camels and her dog. Best selling author Liane Moriarty's...

Jan 6, 2017 - How much is too Much Technology? - October 2016

Since we need to take all technology in our carry on bag do I need my kindle, IPad, IPod, and my phone? I like the weight of my kindle to read from and I can adjust the background to read in the dark when my husband is still sleeping ,instead of sitting in the bathroom with the door closed and the light on. My IPad has Facebook and blogging ability. My IPod has the audio books I need to listen to when I can't sleep or on 2 hrs bus rides or the exhausting waits between connecting flights. My phone is for use in the states but not Australia...

Jan 26, 2016 - Sumter Oaks RV Resort - Bushnell, FL (1/15 - 1/19/16)

We arrived at Sumter Oaks RV Resort on January 15th. This is an Escapees resort. We have our mail forwarding through Escapees. This is a really nice park that backs up to a swamp-like area. There are many types of wading birds and waterfowl. The park also hosts a pair of Barred Owls. As I was taking my trash to the dumpster, there were 2 crows squawking in a large oak tree. I looked up to see what the noise was about and there was one of the owls looking back at me. On Saturday we took a trip to Homosassa Springs. There is a wonderful...

Oct 30, 2015 - Around Our Camp

We have been very busy with "Fall Cleaning" lately ........ getting the truck washed and detailed (no you can not run a truck with duallys through the local car wash!), cleaning Serenity inside and out ...... which involves getting up on the roof and scrubbing off the moss that falls and grows from the oak trees. Then we cleaned all of the cabinets, washed all of the windows and screens, etc. etc. While we are busy with chores, here are a few 'snaps' of everyday life in our beautiful park. Nancy and Mike

Apr 20, 2015 - Leaving Bushnell, Florida

We have left Sumpter RV Park in Bushnell, Florida. As we were leaving we learned that there were donkeys on the property to feed and enjoy, so we were disappointed not to know that earlier. We also discovered (after the car was hitched to the coach) that Bushnell is famous for being the 4th National Cemetery. Those that visited told us that the grounds are beautiful. But we DID manage to meet some very nice people at Sumpter that we may see again when we travel to the Southwest. And John figured out the best method/best cleaning tools and...
