Jan 6, 2020 - Pleasant Lakes RV Resort

Well, we made it to Pleasant Lake on New Year's Day around noon time. Weather was good and traffic was practically non-existant. We've been here a few days now. Other than a very rainy Saturday, the weather has been good. The temperatures have ranged from mid 40's overnight to 85 in the afternoon. We took a ride over to Anna Marie Island to look around. You don't see much of the beach as the shoreline is completely built up. It's nice, but I'm sure a rental there is out of our price range. Anyway, this is what Winter is supposed to be like....

Winter 2019-2020

Apr 9, 2019 - Bradenton

Okay, now I'm caught up. We're in Bradenton, just South of Tampa. We're going to look around at the few campgrounds in the area and see if we can find any candidates for next Winter. It's a bit of culture shock as the the camp sites in Florida are much smaller than they were in Texas and the prices are quite a bit higher. So the challenge is to find a place that we can afford and where we can't reach out the window and touch the rv next to us. We'll be in the area for several days looking around before we head East to do the same over on...

Apr 25, 2016 - Letterboxing again!

It's been awhile since I went letterboxing and what better way to see what's in this area but to find parks and letterboxes! The letterbox in Rye Preserve was planted on what used to be a homestead. All that's left of it now is the frame for swings. There was supposed to be a trellis with the letterbox under it but the trellis is gone so I have no idea if the letterbox is still there or not. It hasn't been found in a couple of years. On the way out, I noticed the beautiful violet and couldn't resist trying to capture its true colors. fair...

Apr 23, 2016 - Shopping and Beach Day

Saturday morning we checked out a "flea market" called the Red Barn. This was not your typical paring lot flea market! It was HUGE, inside, and air conditioned! There had to be hundreds of sellers of anything from old tools and junk to high end cosmetics and everything in between. Some nice looking fresh fruits and vegies, a food court, entertainment (the little old guy with the accordion was especially enjoyable), and even a cold beer. We had a great time and came away with a few purchases! Later we went to a beach on Longboat Key called...

Apr 22, 2016 - Arrived at our next campsite

Arrived at our campground near Tampa this afternoon. It's called the Manatee Winter Quarters in Bradenton, FL. Very nice with full hookups, plenty of shade, pools and hot tub, and a nice laundry - which Linda and I definitely took advantage of! Sadly, no actual manatees here, but hope to see some on this trip! Will be here for the next few days checking out the area, so stay tuned!

Apr 3, 2016 - Sunday Walk On The Trails

We had rain on Sat afternoon and Norma and I played some games in the trailer during the rain. But we did see a few people walking in the rain , looking for those containers out in the woods. We got up on Sunday to see the sky had a few clouds and the sun was out on a nice cool day of around 75. We did a few cache with some friends on the trails that run behind the campground. We found a cache where you had to use you batteries from you GPS or flash light to insert in to the container to be able to operate the lights to find the right...

May 6, 2014 - Countdown - Bradenton, FL

Five days until departure (Sunday, May 11th). Some stuff sorted but not nearly enough. As usual, last minute decisions about what to take or not take. Unfortunately I generally decide to take way more than I need. I'll see if I can be a little more disciplined this time.

Apr 7, 2014 - Let's Go Check Out The Town

Last day before leaving the state park, we are going to go out in to town to see the area and at the same time do some geocaching. You dont know for sure what you may see or where in town you might go. Pick out a few caches in town and go see what happens. Our first stop is at the Braden Castle Ruins, not much to see today, some walls and that is it or is it? Do you know what "TABBY" means? It is walls composed of lime, sand, crushed shells , and water. This was a two story house built on a hill over looking the Manatee river. In the area...
