Apr 12, 2016 - 4/12/16-Day 2 Gainesville to Boynton Beach

Day 2 - Gainesville to Boynton Beach. We had a good night's sleep last night and started today's adventure around 9 am. We had a 5 hour drive from Gainesville to Boynton Beach. Our route took us on the Ronald Regan Turnpike. Every few miles there is a toll. We stopped to get gas and bought a Sun Pass. You put this sticker on the windshield and zoom through the toll booths. How easy is that! But wait.... before you zoom, you have to call a number to put money on the pass...that only took 30 minutes to accomplish. Now here is where I use...

Oct 18, 2013 - visiting in Boynton

I accompanied Laurie & Jeanne on their trip up to visit Connie & Dann and their son Tracy. Very soon after we got there, Gette popped in, having taken a sick day so she could see us before we leave on our great adventure. We had a great time eating Dijourno pizza, salad, and later, some apple pie in honor of Tracy's and my birthday which is the same day! Some of us swam in the pool, too.

Apr 20, 2013 - Connie is 60!

Dann hosted a small party to celebrate Connie turning 60 on Monday. Jeanne, Laurie, Gette, Rosemary, and I had a very nice visit and party with her. The pool was warm and inviting, the food, including pork ribs, beans, greek salad, and chips and dips, was very tasty, and the cake was plentiful and sweet! The rain came right after we decided to move indoors to open gifts. Of course there were gag gifts along with nice ones. Connie was a very good sport to show us how the support bra works with the springs to hold up sagging boobs. The cane...

Feb 11, 2013 - Green Cay Nature Center

From South Bay RV Park in South Bay, FL … Monday, February 11, 2013 We woke up this morning and planned to get an early start. But as soon as we got up, we both ended up on our laptops. A quick check of my email showed that I had purchase from my Etsy shop overnight. A lady purchased a matching necklace and bracelet and asked if she could order the earrings as well. So I worked on that for a few minutes. Meanwhile, Charlie was on his laptop. He suddenly blurted out, “I got a campsite at Curry Hammock!!” I didn’t even realize was trying to...

Jan 4, 2013 - Harvest Hosts - Bedner Farm Fresh

Our membership in Harvest Hosts just keeps on giving benefits! We love it! We needed an intermediate place to stop, again in Florida, on our way south to Key West. Dave found several nice campgrounds in and around the 200 mile mark from Mayport, but they all cost abunch of cash, $70 - $110 per nite! That's C-R-A-Z-Y ! Then it occured to Dave to check the Harvest Hosts map as there might be a farm on the list. Sure enough, there one was, Bedner Farm Fresh in Boynton Beach. And so following the Harvest Hosts protocal we called the phone...

Sep 22, 2012 - Boynton Beach, FL - Fries, VA

Woke up to rain this morning. Glen drove me to the Budget rental early and I got started by 10am. It's a good 12 hour drive, and I don't want to arrive in the middle of the night. There aren't street lights out on those remote mountain roads. The drive was smooth going so I kept on. I made it to the cabin, sans phone service, by 9:30pm. I drove directly to the BP station at the top of the hill, and they'd gotten rid of the pay phone since my last visit. Thankfully an employee allowed me to use her phone in order to let Glen know I made it...

Sep 13, 2012 - Pretrip Excitement

I've confirmed a rental car to make the drive to Fall. I can’t believe I’m finally going back after more than a year of being away from Camp James in Fries, Virginia in the Blue Ridge area of SW Virginia. I can't wait for the fresh, crisp air!! The beautifully colored leaves should be out by the time I arrive. I'm going to be journaling, however I will not be able to add daily notes due to the fact that I will not have access to wi-fi on the trip. I am going to post some photos or the cabin and places I've been on previous trips that I...

Nov 5, 2011 - weekend at Dann & Connie's

On Friday, I traveled across the state amongst sugar cane and the southern part of Lake Okeechobee to Connie & Dann's house in Boynton Beach. Jeanne & Laurie came up from Miami, and Gette & Rose came down from Palm Beach Gardens. We had pizza and wings and then out came a birthday cake made of marble cake with oreo crumbs on butter cream frosting! Gette & Rose don't live far away, so they went home for the night and didn't stay with us. Saturday morning brought a homemade tomato and basil quiche with bacon. I had gotten sick with some kind...

Dec 13, 2009 - Family Christmas pool party

Connie (Laurie's sister) and Dann are traveling to be with family members over the holidays, so they hosted an early Christmas BBQ party at their house. The weather cooperated and it was warm enough to frolic in their heated pool in the afternoon. The Bostons came up with us and all three of them jockeyed to be able to sit next to or on me during the ride up and back. As Jeanne says, "They love their Auntie" but guess what? Their Auntie loves them, too! We stopped at the Boston Terrier Rescue (a couple's house) on the way up to give them...

Summer Trip 2009

Apr 22, 2009 - Wakodahatchee Wetlands

This "Created Waters" preserve was made by the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department to teach people about water conservation. Many of Florida's flora and fauna have discovered it and made it one of the best places to see nature in action that I have found. One walks on a big, circular boardwalk trail and looks in both directions to see lots of varieties of birds, turtles, ducks and wetland plants. There are alligators here as well. And springtime is the time for mating and births. Lots to see and enjoy. Connie and I spent about 3...
