Aug 11, 2017 - North Miami, Miami Beach, Miami and Doral

Today we begin our weekend of getting acquainted with attractions in the Miami area. Actually we are here because Jim is in a golf tournament, but we will have time for several other visits. Our first stop was at the Ancient Spanish Monastery in North Miami. The construction of the Monastery began in 1133 AD in Sacramenia, Spain. Completed in 1141 and named The Monastery of Our Lady, Queen of the Angels. Upon canonization of the famous monk, Bernard de Clairvaux, the monastery was renamed Monastery and Cloisters of St Bernard de Clairvaux....

Miami Weekend

Apr 20, 2017 - Travel Day

Getting ready for the overnight flight to Madrid. Need to finish packing, lock up house and drive to Miami. Glad it is not hurricane season yet so we don't have to bring all the outdoor furniture in. But should something blow in we have back up to take care of that for us. Hoping I will be able to sleep on the plane for a change (Jim always seems to be able to) so we can do some sight seeing as soon as we get there. We will have the day free tomorrow until late afternoon when we meet others on the tour, have dinner and take a night tour of...

May 15, 2014 - Bahia Honda to Boca Raton, FL

May 15, 2014 Lots of rain last night so had to sleep with the fan on. We have an easy drive today to Boca Raton with a stop in Redland. From the Keys we took HWY 1 through the Everglades to Redland. We didn’t realize how close it was to Homestead where we spent two nights. We really did not see a center town and shops but we did see a school with so many buses. They must come from all over to the school. There were acres upon acres of nurseries, all sorts of tropical plants and tropical fruits that cannot be grown commercially elsewhere in...

Jul 19, 2012 - Departure from Miami

After an 8 hour trip from Summerville, SC we arrived in Boca Raton, Florida at about 430 p.m. The trip from Summerville wasn´t without incident. At some point south of Jacksonville, the check engine light came on in Colin´s Sequoia. We kept our fingers crossed and hoped for the best. We made it safely to Boca. Once there, we quickly freshened up and headed to my Uncle Harry´s condo by the beach. What Colin didn´t know is that we had a surprise birthday party waiting for him at a JB´s restaurant on the beach, just down the street. Our good...

Apr 27, 2011 - Prepairing The RV

Been packing the RV and reorganizing the bays. We have purchased all the necessities and a maybe a few that aren't necessary. Like an X-Box. The crew is excited to get on the road. Video games will be at a minimum because I want the boys to have a real summer of exploring and adventure. What does the great USA have in store for us. We will soon see.

Jan 12, 2010 - Cross State Trip to Boca

Mike and I traveled across the state to visit with Rhoda Holop, a former Hall High Business Education teacher whom I worked with during my first ten years of teaching. It was wonderful to see Rhoda in her new apartment in an Independent Living community. It's lovely, and I know that she'll be happy there.

Apr 19, 2009 - Triathlon in Boca Raton

I woke up at 5:45 this morning so that I could get to Spanish River Park in Boca Raton (1/2 hour south of here) in time to meet Gette and give support to Rosemary, who is participating in her first triathlon. She was ready for this after swimming, biking, and running for quite a while. Last Sunday, the sea was calm and swimming was easy. This morning, the sea was a bit rough with warnings out for us casual swimmers. There were plenty of lifeguards on jet skis ready to help those in need, though, and that made us feel better. The swim was...

Feb 23, 2009 - The "Home" Stretch

We are entering the final few days in our house and the boxes are stacked so we have a walkway around the rooms. If we had a few more days and a lot more energy we would construct a maze like in the corn fields before harvest. In between packing boxes we are wearing out our shredder, it is amazing how much paperwork used to have personal information imprinted on it. Social security numbers on medical bills and school documents, credit card numbers on receipts and then all the old banking records, we have enough for a ticker tape parade....

Feb 6, 2009 - The dismantling begins

The dismantling of the interior of our house has begun. The first of the furniture we sold left last night and our son will be here tomorrow to remove the items he wants. All the inspections and appraisals are complete and we have finished the repairs that were requested. The realization of this move is setting in and the anxiety grows more palpable everyday. How are we going to get everything done? We have lived in our home for over 25 years now and have, as so many people do, accumulated our fair share of stuff (AKA junk) that has no...

We have been doing some biking, there is a preserve behind the home we are at that has a nice size bike path. We plan on heading up to Stuart to see some of our old friends up where we lived before moving to Alabama. Well I'll, get back to you all later, perhaps I...

Jan 20, 2009 - A contract fulfillment

We had the home inspection today. It went very well and we have completed a contract requirement towards closing. We are continuing to evaluate what to keep and what to toss. Patricia is ahead of me in her tossing. When we close on the house the plan is to move into the motorhome which is parked in Titusville, FL. at The Great Outdoor Resort. We have rented the site until the end of March. The Dutch Star is 41' long and when the Jeep is hitched it is nearly 60', about the size of a tractor trailer rig. The Jeep is referred to as a "toad" as...
