Jan 12, 2010 - Orange Blossum Trail RV Park

After the Southeast Sunshine Rally in Orlando, went to meet up with Ben and Betsy at Orange Blossom RV Park. Sue led us on a tour of The Villages where we had some really good ice cream. We went to Sonny's BBQ for dinner and Sue and Bob split a big combo plate. From this location we went over to Kennedy Space Center for the day. Wow, the shuttle is on the launch pad ready for blast off.

Jan 3, 2010 - Doug's Birthday

Today is Doug's birthday and he slept later than usual. When he did get up, he received a call from State College Pa and was serenaded by his daughter Susanne and her kids, Marcos and Jenna. They did that once before and since Doug didn't answer the cell, they recorded it and he kept the recording for several weeks so he could hear it over and over. It was very cold here today dipping into the 20's. This is the type of weather that killed the Florida Citrus business. What used to be orange grove is now condominiums. Doug also got calls from...

Today was a big day. We went to a conclave of JoAnn's husbands. Jerry, her first, was born on Jan 3. Doug, her current, was born on Jan 3. Both in the same hospital and same town,. Jerry's new wife Lynda threw a big afternoon dinner to celebrate Jerry's birthday. Their new home is in Lady Lake Florida which is north of Leesburg. Joe and Soni came from Myrtle Beach. David and Susie came from Ponce de Leon along with their son Sam. Tim and Patty and Megan drove up from Orlando. Skip and Vida came in from Longwood. Skip is Jerry's stepson from...

Jan 1, 2010 - Tim and Patti's Fajitas

We had heavy rains this morning followed by a precipitous drop in temperature, It is supposed to be in the 30's tonight. We drove across town to Tim's for their annual specialty: home made fajitas. Tim marinated the meat over night and Patti made tortillas from scratch as well has some delicious salsa. It was a great treat for us. JoAnn took her chocolate cheescake pie for dessert. We were able to leave most of it there. They have two dogs and so Fillmore had a blast. Upon entering the house he went directly to their toy basket and started...

Dec 31, 2009 - Avatar

We had a 45 minute drive from the northwest side of Orlando to the southeast side. We took a toll road otherwise it would have been and hour and a half ride. It cost us 4-5 dollars but certainly worth it except for the Nascar wannabies weaving in and out of traffic lanes. We met with son Tim and his wife Patty and daughter Megan at an Imax theater where we saw Avatar in 3D. It was quite an experience. Tim, being retired Air Force noticed the similarity of the movie's flying machines to stuff he'd worked on when he was in the service. Doug...

Dec 30, 2009 - Big City Traffic

Golly it was pretty here today! The sun was out and it was in the 60's or 70's. And to top that off we had no agenda. That being said, we stayed pretty busy. Doug paid bills on line and then we drove across town for JoAnn to weigh in at a Weight Watchers meeting site. She is doing well and is hoping to get her life time membership. To do that she needs to maintain her weight for 6 weeks. If she loses too much she is a bad girl and doesn't get her award. She has maintained very well through the holiday eating season. After that we chose to...

Dec 29, 2009 - Old Florida in DeLeon SP

Doug managed to sleep about 12 hours last night and as a result, we were late in getting over to Longwood to pick up Susanne and the kids. We decided to head up to Deland to go to Deleon SP for a pancake dinner and then watch the manatees near the spring. There was a sign at the entrance advising us of a 2 1/2 hour wait to get into the restaurant. It is in an old water mill building and they bring out pancake mixings and you make your own while looking out over the spring. You purchase various toppings for the pancakes separately. We...

Dec 28, 2009 - Grandkids in Wekiva Springs SP

The phone rang at the crack of 9:15 this morning and it was Doug's son Mark saying that they would come by about 11 AM. Doug scrambled to finish setting up the trailer and register at the campground. They showed up while we were at the office and Susanne called us with Fillmore sounding fierce in the background. Marcos and Jenna had another Christmas in the trailer and then rode their scooters around in the park. Where do they get that energy? The kids wanted to see an alligator in the wild and Mark spotted one as we drove through a well...

Dec 27, 2009 - On The Road Again

We had a big family breakfast this morning. JoAnn concocted a couple of breakfast cassaroles for us and they disappeared pretty quickly. The family was heading in all directions today but we all sort of dawdled around after breakfast. We were sort of in the afterglow of a nice weekend together. It was about 10:15 when we finally headed out. We wanted to make it to our campground before darkness and Doug thought he had it timed just right until we crossed the river putting us into the Eastern Time zone. We had lost an hour almost before we...

Jan 2, 2008 - Spending the holidays with Family

Dan and I arrived in Apopka, Fl just northeast of Orlando late on December 22nd. It was the first time we traveled with the new tow dolly that is designed to trailer the bike and tow the car. Other than hooking it up for the first time in the dark and pouring rain, the trip was uneventful. It was nice to finally be riding in the motorcoach rather than following behind in the car. We have been spending time with my family. My Mom has a house in Apopka and some of my siblings and their families are also here. The weather has been reasonable...
