May 16, 2011 - Its a bushel of crabs

Hi all, I spent today with a friend from my early Navy days. He picked me up just after noon and we drove to his house in Maryland. On our way there we drove through some beautiful areas mixed with farm lands and tree lined roads. Drove through a Amish farms where things are done without power and mixed with more newer homes owned by non Amish. Once getting to Mikes and meeting his wife and little girl we started to cook crab. We sat down to eat and next thing I it was time to clean up and start heading back to Alexandria. I had a great...

May 15, 2011 - American and Natrual Museums

Hi All, I wanted to sleep in a little but the body said it was time to get up. Watched a little TV and then get ready to get into the city. The Metro folks are working on some of the tracks between where I am and the station by the museums. Well at ten I was waiting at the door to get in the American History Museum. Spent three hours walking around looking at at everything. Then went over to the Natural History Museum and still spent a good amount of time however, the interest was not the same as the museum before. I spent most of my time...

Today the weather is very nice and it is Sunday, we head up to DC to spend a few hours visiting our nation's capital. We take a slow stroll through the streets of the Capital, fortunate enough to find a parking spot directly in front of the White House. So we spend about an hour walking in that general vicinity. We go along the Mall, the World WarII Momorial, the Lincoln Monument, the Vietnan War Memorial, The Capitol, the Arlington Cemetery and then proceed to visit some friends in Fairfax VA. Go back home late that evening

May 14, 2011 - Museums in the rain

Got up this morning and the drizzle and rain is here. The weatherman says it it here to stay for the rest of my visit. Today it I was planning to get out late so it is no big deal. Finely got out and the rain stopped... thanks goodness. I was on the Metro and off to the museums for the day. Since the tour at the air and space museum was not until the early afternoon I went to the Hirshhorn Museum and sculpture garden. Most of the art they had on display did excite me much. However there were some things as they had projection art, mobiles,...

May 13, 2011 - WASHINGTON DC

We have a short travel day between Williamsburg and Lothian MD where our campground is located, the Duncan family Campground. They are not part of the Passport America network but they will offer a 15% discount to seniors of 55 years of age. The campground is well maintained and has a lot of trees providing good shade. Our TV antenna can get more than 50 channels and their cable only about fifteen. Because of heavy traffic on I95 and the Beltway it takes us until 5h00pm to get to the campground. We settle in and enjoy a quiet dinner

May 13, 2011 - Last day on the bus tour

I wanted to start early this morning as it was the last day of the hop on/off bus. I got the metro into the city and walked to Fords Theater. Started out on the yellow line that runs on the North West section of the city. This tour visits the Mayflower Hotel known for Bill and Monica, Gov Spitzer, and I am sure others ,,, if these walls could talk ... then a pass by the zoo and National Cathedral. Next would be Embassy Row, Georgetown and then back into city. The ride lasted about 2 hours and very good for sightseeing. The rain is coming to...

May 12, 2011 - The Monument Tour and Night Time Tour

Hi all, I wanted to get in to town early as it was my first day using the hop on and off bus tour. This is an open top bus so I would like to sit on the second deck to take some good pictures. I arrived where I thought I should be to pick up the bus but after waiting for about an hour and a closer look at the map found it was a block over on the other side of the museum. Well once I was in the right place here came the bus and on my way. I started on the blue line that headed out to Arlington Cemetery. Once there it was a hike to the Tomb...

May 10, 2011 - Washington, DC day 2

Today we explored DC on our own. Took the local bus down to the metro train, from there to Union Station on the National Mall. We started at one end where the capital was and walked to the other end as far as the WWII memorial. Along the way we saw the space museum and got a close up of the White House. I didn't realize that there were guys with guns on top of the White House watching everything, kind of creepy. After that we ate at a nice outdoor cafe, then on to the museum of American History (saw the star spangled banner) and the museum...

May 10, 2011 - Washington DC

We took off from Denver a little late but the pilot will make that up along the way. We headed East and soon hit some bumpy areas but soon the pilot found the road and it was smooth sailing in to DC. After landing at the airport it was into a cab to the hotel. Once I arrived and checked it found out I did not have the frig or microwave that I was promised. After telling Debi she was on the phone with Priceline. Not much we could do so I am here for the stay but maybe I can get into a room in the next few days. Grabbed some dinner and will...

May 9, 2011 - Washington, DC

This morning we left Virginia for Washington, DC. We took the scenic route and really enjoyed the trip. We already spent time at the World War II, Pentagon, and Air Force museums. Those museums were fabulous! I will attach some pictures of these later. We parked our car on the street that was free. However, we did not know that it was restricted after 4:00 PM. They literally picked our SUV up and moved if off the road on onto the sidewalk area. Lane thinks that they had to come by with a forklift. In addition, we did get a notice for a $50...

May 9, 2011 - Washington, DC

Today we made it to Washington DC. The traffic here is lots heavier than we have seen for a while. I'm glad the RV park is on the perimeter and we are using public transportation to get around. We checked into the park, watched a info talk about tours, then signed up for a night tour of DC. Our bus driver was "Big Al" and he was very entertaining, we only had 8 people on our bus, so he stopped and let us get out and see things close up and take lots of pictures. We didn't get back until 11pm, that's late for us. Tomorrow we are walking the...
