May 10, 2013 - A Little Bit More Refined Beach
A very short drive north, only about 30 miles, we arrived at our next stop which was Rehoboth Beach, DE. This was just a one night stop, and there are 2 reasons for it. We did want to see Rehoboth Beach as we had heard a lot about it, and were very impressed. Like Ocean City, it also has a boardwalk, although it is much shorter and there are no amusement park rides; however, they still offer the same foods which we all know are necessary to maintaining high nutritional standards, such as caramel corn, cotton candy, salt water taffy, corn...

May 5, 2013 - Revisiting the Lincoln Highway
We arrived home yesterday at about 6:30PM. By the time we unloaded Winnie and had something to eat (good old Philly cheese steak), we were beat and ready for bed, so the last chapter of the trip had to wait until tonight. Our route home followed the Lincoln Highway for most of the way and then a run through rural Lancaster County on a beautiful spring day. We traveled the Lincoln Highway in 2009 on our first long trip in Winnie. On the way west in 2009, we missed Mister Ed’s Elephant Museum. Ed has collected over 5,000 elephant related...

Apr 27, 2013 - Car Problem
For some reason the driver side door decided not to close today. My brother in law has read the book and tried all that he could to fix what we thought was a simple problem. Apparently not. So Monday morning , bright and early, I will be first on line at the Cadillac dealer to have this issue resolved so I can leave as planned on Tuesday. It's always something! Happier events today were a very decent haircut and a fun evening playing Skipbo.

Apr 26, 2013 - Hagley Museum And Longwood Gardens
Em and I started our 90 minute drive to Wilmington at 9:30 this morning. The Hagley Museum was worth the effort. The 235 acres of land along the Brandywine River is where , in 1802, E.I. DuPont founded his gunpowder works. A shuttle bus dropped us off at Eleutherian Mills, the first DuPont family home. It is named for Eleuthere Irenee - E.I. DuPont. Besides the house, the bus goes to the Powder Yard with restored mills and demonstrations on how gunpowder is made and then on to Workers Hill - the remains of several workers communities built...

Apr 22, 2013 - Baltimore To Seaford
Em and I spent last night and all morning yakking away with Maria and Danny. We had lunch at Double TT Diner and talked some more. Maria has a wonderful bakery near the house so we stopped and bought pastries, went home and made cocoa, and continued the conversation. At 4:45, Em and I started our drive to her house in Delaware. Traffic was light and we arrived at 6:45. Early to bed tonight - it was a busy weekend.

Feb 22, 2013 - The Night Before
It's midnight and Winnie's not packed yet. It looks like it's going to be a late night. Sue is still packing her "NJ suitcases". She always tries to pack the whole house and all her clothes in 5 bags. It usually takes 2 or 3 days on the road before it all gets put away in Winnie. I hope we are not overweight! I sure hope we don't get any of the snow or ice that was predicted. It's only drizzling now. We're planning on leaving at about 1000 on Saturday. We'll see. We are supposed to meet Annie and Kyle for lunch in Baltimore before hitting...

Dec 20, 2012 - Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
Happy Holidays everyone. Sue, Winnie, and I had a great 2012. It sure was eventful with Sue retiring from the Y, Kyle and Annie getting married at Big Springs Farm, and our escapade criscrossing America to arrive home to be greeted by Sandy. It wasn't without some sadness as Sue's dad passed on in May. We all miss him, but he's in a better place. Our Christmas card for 2012 was from Santa Claus, Indiana where we stayed at Lake Rudolph for a couple of days in August on the " 2012 Time for Work, Time for Play, and Time for Service" trek. What...

Nov 16, 2012 - Reflections
November 16, 2012 Thoughts about the trip. Generally, a wonderful trip. We kayaked a lot and explored rivers previously unknown to us. Saw lots of birds, took lots of photos, and ate all kinds of wonderful, albeit fattening, foods. Put South Carolina, Georgia and Florida on our RV “map”. Now only missing 6 states. Had a great time in the Keys with Carlie and Leslie and exploring on our own as well and would go back in a heartbeat – especially if we could mooch off our friends. Would definitely take another trip like this but might avoid the...

Nov 15, 2012 - Delaware Seashore SP
November 15, 2012 Happy 60th Birthday to my brother, Charlie. Our last day of the trip before we arrive home. We awoke to another cold, windy day but with skies leaden looking. The spindrift on the shore skittled across the sand leaving tracks in its wake. Dixie couldn’t decide whether to chase it or to get out of its way. The waves were quite large and churned up so much spindrift that it almost looked like bubble bath along the shore. We took a long walk then went to visit another new home community near Fenwick Island. Tonight, we had a...

Nov 14, 2012 - Delaware Beaches SP
November 14, 2012 Naturally, if we are at Delaware Beaches State Park, it must be really cold and windy and it is! The wind is blowing at around 40 mph and it was only about 50 degrees today but felt like 34! Walking on the beach, I wore my down parka, a gator over my face, my “ear” hat and ski mittens. Needless to say, it was a little difficult to take photos. When I took my mittens off, I could only last about three minutes before I had to put them back on. We visited a community of new homes called Lighthouse Crossing in Selbyville,...

Nov 13, 2012 - Trip to Delaware Beaches State Park
Best laid plans…. Had planned to go across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and north up the Delmarva Peninsula to Delaware Seashore State Park. We were expecting rain and got it but what we weren’t expecting was the wind. We called the Bay Bridge information center and were told that we would not be able to cross the Bay Bridge because of more than 47 mph winds. The gentleman said that they expected the restriction to be lifted around noon but couldn’t guarantee anything so we had to spend time figuring out what our options were. I was all for...

Nov 10, 2012 - Pennsylvania Poconos
I took a different route through Pennsylvania than I did on the way up. It went a little further east and came down through the Poconos. I stopped at an interesting overlook outside of Towanda, PA. The sign told about a settlement called French Azilum. It was established in 1793 as a refuge for Frenchman fleeing the French Revolution. It was believed that Marie Antoinette was going to escape the mobs in France and settle there. We all know what happened to her. The settlement lasted until 1803 and was then abandoned. There are no original...
