May 31, 2013 - Mystic, Connecticut
5/31/13, Friday Today we left Jersey City and had to cross the river through Bronx, NY by crossing the George Washington Bridge. It cost us a $60.00 TOLL!!! Ouch!! Then we had to go through some tunnels, over more bridges and fighting traffic all the way! We finally cleared the New York area and got on a relatively low traffic freeway headed through Deleware and into Connecticut. Arriving in Connecticut, we passed a number of beautiful churches. The style of building in this area seems unique. All the churches have high steeples. We...

May 8, 2013 - PEZ
In 1927, PEZ was invented in Vienna, Austria by Eduard Haas III. He marketed it as an adult breathmint and alternative to smoking. The name comes from the German word for peppermint - pfefferminz. By 1935, Haas needed a larger factory and built it in Czechoslovakia. PEZ was originally sold in small metal tins until, in 1948, Oscar Uxa patented a small mechanical box that dispensed the tablets. PEZ went international in 1952 when it started operations in New York City and got it's first U.S. patent - all the candy was still imported from...

Mar 23, 2013 - Home!
We arrived home at 5:30 p.m. tonight. It was a long day - 348.5 miles. We were tired when we came in. As we turned into our development two of our neighbors were going out. It was nice to be greeted with tooting horns. When we pulled up to the house to unhitch the car our 90 year old next door neighbor and his care giver came out to greet us. It was cold and windy - thanks Bill & Lena for braving that wind and cold. This was a wonderful winter. We had a few minor issues with the coach - our day/night shade on our big window by the table...

Dec 26, 2012 - Christmas 2012
Another wonderful Christmas surrounded by family and friends. Although the weather was a bit stormy in the early morning, the roads were clear and safe by the time everyone made their way to our house for presents and dinner. Joan has been in Orlando at Abby's house for several weeks now, and Baby Gavin flew from Idaho Falls with his grandparents--Clarke and Susan--to celebrate Christmas in the warm weather and sunshine! Bruce and Neesha drove from CT to FL, so all four grandparents had the pleasure of seeing Gavin open his Christmas...

Dec 26, 2012 - Preparations for FL Trip
Mike and I spent the day preparing to leave for FL. First we had to "undecorate." We took down the Christmas tree, packed up all of the ornaments, then went outside to take down the house lights. It's so much easier to undecorate than it is to put everything up! I vacuumed and cleaned up the house from yesterday's partying, then we finished our packing of clothes, etc. Mike is our resident car packer, and he did an excellent job! I'm sure that he double-checked the boat, too! All day long, Mr. Stripes was awake (very unusual) and kept me in...

Dec 16, 2012 - Justine's 90th Birthday
90 years old!! Wow, Justine certainly has seen and done a lot in her lifetime. We planned a party at the White Oaks Independent Living where Justine and Jean live, and it turned out great. We had 20 family members in attendance at a luncheon, and I had a family tree printout for everyone to look at. Cecelia flew in from Chicago, and Justine's niece Diane and her husband John came to the party, too. It was a very nice afternoon, and Justine said that she had a great time.

Dec 14, 2012 - Preparing for Okeechobee
Mike and I are looking forward to another trip to FL and especially to escaping the cold weather here in the north. We plan to leave for Okeechobee on December 27. We had a great spring, summer, and fall; but it's time to get back into shorts and sandals! At the end of May, we took a wonderful land/cruise trip to Alaska. The scenery was a beautiful as everyone told us it would be, our guides were knowledgeable and fun, and the cruise allowed us an up close look at the dwindling glaciers. It was a terrific experience--a trip that we would...

Oct 19, 2012 - First Stop: West Hartford, CT
I think we did a pretty good job packing and we got everything we needed. We worked very hard getting the house ready for Laura because we had to clear out Billy's bedroom for her. And while we were at it we cleaned the rest of the house pretty thoroughly. Can't let Laura see how we really live. It is a little hard to leave home knowing that we will not be back for a year. At the same time we are excited about the trip. Tonight we wanted to spend the night in Maggie and Kevin's driveway, since there are no campsites open nearby at this...

Oct 19, 2012 - Day 96 - to Clinton, Connecticut
We drove further down I95 today to Riverdale Farm RV Park outside Clinton, Connecticut. We are about half an hour out of New Haven. Our luck with the weather changed today and we had rain for most of the drive, at least it was only two and half hours. After checking with the park owner, we decided to take the train into New York City tomorrow. We got the train information, booked an OnBoard Tour for our first day.

Oct 14, 2012 - Beautiful Connecticut
The foliage here is still mostly green so our drive through Pennsylvania and on through New Jersey into New York was uneventful, foliage-wise. So we had an onboard sculpture class, with a hands-on experience directed by one of our travelers, Frank Williams, who is an artist with extensive experience in sculpture. He gave us chunks of clay and as the miles rolled past, he showed us how to shape leaves in faded fall colors. He showed us how to make our flat leaves curl up at the ends, which helped a lot in making my leaf look more...
