Oct 28, 2017 - in Westport - Soccer, party for girls, "Moana"

Sat 28th Oct - - - (This is Jan now writing this) Being a bit weary from the fun of the Boo Bash last night, we all slept in - Ron being first up at about 7.30 am but we didn’t have breakfast until about 9.00am which was lovely. Number one anxiety for Lindsay at the moment is that they might miss out on the house they hope to buy in Dover Street. It was good for the girls to have a quiet play together (in preparation for our departure in the morning) while we headed out with Brett to return some TV Cable equip and buy a white orchid for...

Oct 27, 2017 - in Westport - Winslow Pk, Boo Bash

Fri 27th Oct - - - (walk town Winslow, Boo Bash) Did some tidying up in the morning before we headed off for a walk to the town via bron’s South Parkland. Very disappointed in the lack of upkeep. I guess because no dogs are allowed it doesn’t get much use and so is not maintained. The Baron’s old brick residence looked quite imposing set on the rise. on to Winslow Park just N of the town but beside the small centre where we shop at Trader Joes. Now this park is kept well and is used by a large number of Dogs and their owners. From here we...

Oct 26, 2017 - in Westport - house hunt

Thu 26th Oct - - - (Brett day off - more houses) First up Brett took Chloe and Ron to the recycling station with some large cardboard boxes too difficult to fit into the weekly bin. Fortunately for Chloe and Ron Brett also brought them back. We headed off at 12 to look at two more houses which fortunately were close to each other; and then back to the favourite to confirm opinions by comparing. We had to be back home by 3 to collect Brenna off the bus and then Ron and Brett took Brenna to soccer training (last one for season). Ron did Gpa...

Oct 25, 2017 - in Westport - Greenacre Lane Sequel Office

Wed 25th Oct - - - (Greenacre Lane and Sequel office) The rain has gone - it’s a bit cloudy today and should stay that way all the way through to next Sunday when we have rain again. Another quiet morning after both kids off to school so Ron took the opportunity to finalise the Boston hotel and the train to Boston. Late morning we walked to Trader Joes via Greenacre Lane which is close to home. Part way up the lane we found a park which didn’t show on the map called Haskins Nature Reserve. The land was left to the people of Westport and is...

Oct 24, 2017 - in Westport - celebrate Jan's b'day

Tue 24th Oct - - - (inspect Dover Rd - Jan’s early birthday) Expecting cold and rain today. Brenna took wellies, rain hat and coat because she was to go on a field trip today. She looked at birds and they looked for wildlife on the forest floor - even found a worm. She came home happy so that was the main thing - and the rain didn’t eventuate until after she came home. G’ma spent most of the day trying to keep up with Chloe’s imagination in the play room. Ron spent that time looking at hotels in Boston and train travel. Brett came home at...

Oct 23, 2017 - in Westport - walk to Saugatuck

Mon 23rd Oct Today our goal is to go for a walk - all the way to Saugatuck which is the nearby area close to Westport. Our route took us into Westport as we have already done before, cross the river, then head SE down the road beside the river for a few kms to the town of Saugatuck where we were ready for a cuppa and a sit down, oh yes, and also a comfort stop. Duncan Donuts looked to be just the thing - and - they were offering bacon and egg rolls at 2 for $5. Bargain. Suitably dewatered, rewatered, and rested (in that order) we continued...

Oct 22, 2017 - in Westport - movie

Sun 22nd Oct - - - (movie, house inspect) Wow! This bed they are letting us use must have sleep inducing drugs infused into the fabric - slept till 9:00. Up and running so we could be out by 10:15 to go to an arranged house inspection, very impressive. From there we had the experience of the trip. In Brett’s words from his FaceBook post. “Formally applying for “Dad of the year”...Sunday morning, 11am and enjoying the complex plot of “My Little Pony” - grandma and grandpa travelled a long way to enjoy this!” There were total of 9 in the...

Oct 19, 2017 - in Westport - Drs and soccer

Thu 19th Oct - - - (Fairfield Dr, soccer training) Day at home for Brett today for a couple of important appts. Another early bus walk with Brett and Brenna. Brennan just loves school and there is never an issue with her hopping on the bus and giving us a huge grin and wave as it drives off. That must say a lot for the attitude and disposition of both the driver “Marissa” and the monitor “Ron” both wonderful African Americans. About 10 we headed off with Chloe for a Plastic Surgeon checkup on the scar healing on her forehead following a...

Oct 18, 2017 - in Westport - walk to beach

Wed 18th Oct - - - (walk to Compo Beach) So - we’re still into the routine of up at 6:45 so we can walk to the bus with Brenna at 7:15. Today we intend to do a longish walk to the beach - think it may be about 4km. (quieten down all you exercise freaks - it’s long for me). So after Chloe went to school (3 days /wk) and Lindsay headed off to an appt, these two old geriatric plodders header off to the east to Compo Beach. Very quiet, very few people, but in Apl to Sep you need a permit at weekends to park in the carpark. Not a cloud in the...

Oct 17, 2017 - in Westport - downtown walk

Tues 17th Oct - - - (walk downtown) Very cold morning today 41degF (about 5degC). Today we set ourselves the task of going for a long walk into town. I guess it was about 3km and was a beautiful walk. The houses in this area are amazing. Mansions set on larger than normal allotments, well kept, and many of them just oozing money. I thought of Fig Tree Pocket while I was walking but that may not be a good enough comparison. We had a coffee in town (Starbucks for these commoners) and then through a few shops before heading over the Saugatuck...

Oct 16, 2017 - in Westport - timeout w/out kids

Mon 16th Oct - - - (time-out w/out kids) Brett was home today to spend with the whole family. We walked Brenna to the bus pickup just 3 doors down the road at 7:20. Would you believe the bus monitor’s name is Ron and a delightful older African American. He greets every child by name with a huge smile as they hop on the bus. For the pickup of children in the early grades there is a monitor on each bus and the bus follows a strict schedule for pickup and dropoff - to the minute. It was interesting to note the protocols that apply to school...

Oct 15, 2017 - in Westport - Silvermans Farm

- - did you see the "bubble" photos added later on entry 5 Sun 15th Oct - - - (Silverman’s Farm) Today we head off to Silverman’s Farm. There are lots of animals to feed or pet and also pumpkins for sale and an apple orchard where people pay to pick apples. Chloe and Brenna had a great time letting the animals lick the food out of their hands, so they sure needed a good wash after we finished feeding them. Around the pumpkins we got some good photos and tried an Apple Pizza. (pureed apple, apple chunks, bacon pieces, cheese and some...
