In spite of my perhaps-deserved reputation as a crotchety, bitter geezer-malcontent who would sooner throw a Key Lime Pie than eat one, I really do like a lot of stuff, even you on rare occasions. And I have my favorites, but the very best of the best? Varies; sometimes the best winds up being best-of-the-worst or worse that that, but I can clue you in on today's front-runners: 1. May 17, 2007 - Vive la Difference, even without an accent grave.....
Do you remember Spencer Tracy's character, Adam Bonner, using the phrase "Vive la Difference!" in the 1949 movie "Adam's Rib"? Like Adam, I acknowledge the importance of differences more and more as we travel. Traveling highways, you can't help but observe that, with increased prosperity and population, our country is homogenizing, a fact that I find both unattractive and very disappointing. You can count on finding Starbuck's, Applebee's, Factory Outlets, Home Depots, (etc. ad infinitum nauseum) seemingly at every highway exit. Recently...Jump to full entry
