Jul 22, 2014 - Connecticut

Spent a couple weeks with my parents in Prospect, CT; where I "got older as a child", not as has been insinuated "grew up", which I didn't, won't and you can't make me ! So there !! Also able to spend time with friends on the golf course and dinner at the beach front cottage of Cindi & Paul. The weather has been delightful - 80's during the day, and 60's at night. Slept with the windows open every night for two weeks. Have not been able to do so in Austin for 24 years ! Especially in JULY !! Meeting Lidia in Amsterdam on 28 July. My sister...

Jul 3, 2013 - Escaping the Texas Heat

We are starting this journey with some pictures of Texas; time spent at the Independence Creek Nature Conservancy property. The creek feeds into the Pecos River slightly north of where it flows into Lake Amistad on the Mexico border near Del Rio, TX. We'd gone there to view some of the migrating bird species on their way back north. The property is very peaceful with no cities within many miles, and only a family of four nearby. The sounds of nature were all that was to be heard, and the darkness of the night-time skies illuminated a...

Oct 1, 2007 - Prospect, Connecticut

Allen Peck was going to be in his hometown and we were just a short drive away from meeting up with him. So a quick change of plan and we were meeting up with him. A relaxing weekend with Allen and his parents. A tour of Yale University and Allen's old haunts in the town of Prospect were the highlights. It was a brief visit, but it's always good to see longtime friends and be regaled with stories about their youth. We're still not sure what possessed him to climb into storm drains and crawl around 10 feet under the street level, but some...

Aug 27, 2007 - Mmmm lobster

Stayed in CT today and relaxed. We got some final supplies for abroad and waited in anticipation for the main event: dinner. My first taste of New England-style home cooking. On the menu: artichoke (my contribution), potatoes, steamed clams and steamed lobster (not to mention lots of butter and mayo.) It was fabulous and we all went to bed with full tummies. Tomorrow=Boston.

Aug 26, 2007 - Testing...One.....Two......Three......Testing

Ok, this trip journal will be a forum for all of my friends, family, and loved ones to read about how my semester abroad in Russia is going. Hopefully, you guys will give it a look once in a while to read my thoughts and browse my pictures as I live in and travel through the big bad home of the Commies, the heavyweight of socialist economics, queen bee of the former USSR, distiller of world famous vodkas, and birthplace of an inordinate amount of hot tennis stars.....Mother Russia. Feel free to post comments, questions, leave love, or...

Aug 20, 2007 - Welcome to New England

On Sunday, I said good-bye to my family and began my four-month adventure. First stop: Prospect, CT, the home of the Francois'. It's a very quaint little town. I'm beginning to realize that New England looks exactly like the coffee table books. Photographers would have no problem tracking down cute white chapels; they're everywhere!!! Today, David and I visited local attractions and personal memorials. New Haven was fascinating- so ancient and rich in history, and yet so yuppie (in places), it reminded me of being home in the pearl. The...
