Aug 30, 2015 - North Stonington CT

Friday's events were pretty slow in developing, but still turned out OK. We didn't leave the fast Ponderosa till 11:30, which if you have been paying attention is pretty late for us, mainly because we didn't have anything too specific planned. We headed south on I-95 toward New London, then we got pointed more northish toward Hartford so we could tour the restored home of Samuel Clemens, more popularly known as Mark Twain. We got there just in time to catch the 1:15 tour of the home where he and his family lived for 17 years in the late...

Aug 27, 2015 - North Stonington CT

Tuesday's journey was 2 hours in the bus, a little break, followed by a 4 hour jeep trip. That was plenty so after that we happily locked up the house and called it a night. The trip from Cape Cod took us west on I-195 back through New Bedford and then Fall River, into Rhode Island where we merged onto I-95 through Providence and down the road a piece to our home for 6 nights near Mystic, Connecticut. After setting up and taking the aforementioned break, we set out towards Newport, Rhode Island and then a scenic stretch of road to Sakonnet...

Day 40 - North Stonington, CT 9/21/2013 We left Lynns' this morning and headed to Plymouth Rock. It was real interesting driving through Boston. They have a bridge that looks just like the one we saw in Maine that had the observatory in it. Only this one didn't have an observatory, but otherwise looked identical. We got to Plymouth around lunch time. We drove down towards the shore, what a zoo! They had an alzheimers walk this morning, so there were tons of people and no place to park! We finally found a catholic church lot that was empty,...

Sep 15, 2013 - The Surftown Half and 5K

Today was the Surftown half marathon and 5K. The races started at the beach park and there are only two roads into the parking area. Traffic backed up big time! We managed to get into our parking spot – about a half mile from the start – at 7:15 a.m. Start time was scheduled for 7:30. However, due to the traffic problem the start didn’t happen until about 7:45 and Sue didn’t start until 8:00. It was a cool but bright sunny day, so the race was pleasant but challenging. Just about two and a half hours after the start I reached the finish...

Sep 13, 2013 - Mystic

We have been planning since April to run a race in Westerly, RI. So, on Wednesday we moved to the Mystic KOA in North Stonington, CT close to Westerly and not far from Mystic, CT. The race is on Sunday, so we have time to explore the area. Today we spent a few hours at Mystic Seaport, a combination restoration shipyard and seaport village museum. We visited the shipyard first where they are in the middle of a three-year restoration of the Charles W. Morgan, a wooden whaling ship that sailed for 80 years ending in 1941 when it was brought...
