Nov 3, 2017 - Train to New London

Fri 3rd Nov - - - train to New London I must have known about our habits of “late out of bed” and “slow to get going”. Our train leaving Boston is scheduled for 11:21. With the station (Back Bay) being only 5min drive away with Uber, I think we had plenty of time. Ended up enjoying a muffin and coffee at the station before the train came in. Another excellent ride on Amtrak taking only 1hr20min S to New London. The Holiday Inn was only about 4 blocks away and it is such a nice day that we walked it. Having settled in we tried the Inn’s...

Aug 25, 2017 - Afternoon With Maria and Danny

We spent the afternoon with my neice and nephew in law in New London. They are renovating a nearly 100 year old home right near the water. So far they've done a great job - lots more to do. After treating us to a scrumptious fish and chips lunch they took us on a tour of their city. Always enjoyable to be in the company of this lovely couple. We were so grateful they had time for a visit today.

Aug 23, 2017 - Mansion Magic with a Fashion Extra - Aug. 14

For years I have wanted to visit the "Breakers". It is the mansion once owned by the Vanderbilt's in Newport,RI. The drive from New London takes about an hour. Crossing the bridge we were in the wrong lane and failed to pay the $4 toll. We were told they would bill us at a higher rate. This is another place with narrow streets and where every inch of land has something on it. Turn here, stay to left, continue straight, turn right, make half circle and ease to left. And there it was a grandiose mansion built by the sea. We paid the $58 entry...

The Long Way Home

Aug 20, 2017 - Reunion & Mystic,CT - Aug. 12-13

It was only a two hour drive to our next stop and early for hotel check in so we drove over to the Hidden Acres Family Campground where our friends from Florida stay in the summer, Frank and Donna Denis. The campground is very eclectic with tents, trailers, big rigs, seasonals, and full timers. Lots of interesting yards, a golf cart pirate ship ,and the river for tubing and kayaking. For Lupper we went to the grocery store and purchased, you guessed it, lobster, which they steamed right there in the store. Corn and pasta salad, we were as...

The Long Way Home

Jun 21, 2017 - Visiting Jo & Ann

After finishing work at the Upper Delaware, I went home to Saugerties for the weekend to see family. I should have taken pictures, but I didn't! On Monday, the 19th, I traveled to the summer home of Jo and Ann, friends of mine from the Resort on Carefree Boulevard. Parking in someone's driveway (besides my Mom's) is a new thing for me. This was a great visit and I had lots of fun. I went looking for a few letterboxes but only found one, helped do some yard work, and went on a tour of the towns in this area, seeing the inlets and Long...

Aug 13, 2014 - Terrific Visit With Maria And Danny

Arrived later than expected due to heavy rain and a mistake in directions. Maria and Danny were waiting for me and we talked a good deal over lunch . I got to see Danny's church - apparently he is one popular pastor! Maria's congregation is in Cranston, R.I . - too far away for a visit. They both seem very happy with their new assignments. Maria chose a lovely seafood restaurant for dinner this evening. The waterfront view was a bonus! The conversation was lively and it continued when we got back to the house. Maria and I kept chatting long...

Jul 2, 2014 - East Lyme,Connecticut

I made it to Connecticut. Arrived at the Aces High RV park in East Lyme yesterday afternoon. On the way I stopped at a railway museum. The attached is a photo of me sitting in the cab of a retired (very) Boston and Maine SW1 Yard Switcher built sometime in the 1940 by the Electric Motor Corp; Now known as the Electric Motor Division of General Motors. I knew that I wasn't to far from my brother's home in Waterford. So I set out on my bike to ride over there. Boy, was I wrong and dumb. Not sure how many miles I rode but most of them was up...

Sunday we drove to Rhode Island walking along various beaches blue skies but still cold. We have...

One of the places we had no choice to visit was here. tim and Jane on Janie O who we met on the loop live here and if we did not stop, they would have never spoken to us again. We established a great friendship with them with them visiting us in NC and we have been to their home via car. We stay 2 days and it was not enough. What great hosts they were. We stayed at their marina which was great and fueled up with their Janie O discount. Tim took us to the Defender warehouse, which is a huge boat catalog outlet. John went crazy buying up...
