Sep 13, 2019 - Pre-Anniversary Tour Trip

The 87th Infantry Division held its 70th Reunion in Danbury, CT capped with a visit to the United States Military Academy. this year's reunion had only 4 WWII veterans in attendance, but it was good to see them. For guys in their mid-90's they did pretty well. Our plans are to continue to have the reunions until there are no more WWII veterans alive. Since the Legacy Association began about 10 years ago we have met folks from all over the country that have become friends and like members of our extended family. The plans are to hold the...

Jun 19, 2018 - Over night boondocking stop in Danbury CT

We departed Lenhartsville PA on the morning of June 19 and arrived in Danbury CT in the afternoon. We travelled some of the smaller roads going up through Stroudsburg PA, across RT209 through the Delaware Watershed area (oh so beautiful!) then out onto I84 to head east to DanburyCT where we stayed at a boondockerswelcome.com location. It was a commercial area out behind a roofing company and backed up to a storage facility where there were also several camping trailers stored. We met our host, got the coach all set up, went out for dinner...

Jul 10, 2017 - Danbury, CT

After eating breakfast at our hotel we relaxed in our room until we checked out at 11. The hotel stored our luggage while we walked to a nearby mall. We walked around there for awhile then walked to the parking garage to get the car. We then went back to the hotel to pick up our luggage. We drove out of Boston trying to stay off of I-90 which was a toll road. We gave up trying to get out of Boston without going on it. Taking side roads out of Boston is the worst! It wasn't a typical toll highway. We expected toll booths. There weren't any....

Jul 22, 2013 - Danbury, CT

We departed Port Republic two days earlier than originally planned, we wanted to take advantage of two nights, one in Connecticut and one in Rhode Island. For those of you who are longtime readers recall that we, by our standards, can add the state decal to our national map only if we spend a night in the RV, in the state. The first day travel was a bit longer than we expected, 260 miles to I-84 and the Information center/Rest Area at Danbury, CT. We didn’t know it at the time that we pulled in to get information, but when Dave talked to...

Jul 28, 2011 - Off We Go

I find myself watching the humans packing the car. Are they taking me on another trip? I hope so... I'm not sure where we might be going, and I don't think the humans know either... Well, it seems I'm not going in the trunk this time... don't worry, it's the hatchback on a station wagon. Gotcha! Anyway, I think I'll be stretching out across the back seat with my human companion - no "Masters" here, just friends... Off we go now, heading west, like last time. See you in a state or two!

Jul 28, 2011 - There was The Iliad. There was The Odyssey. And then, there was Yumi's Grand Adventure II.

The quest consists of five things: (a) a quester, (b) a place to go, (c) a stated reason to go there, (d) challenges and trials en route, and (e) a real reason to go there. Item (a) is easy; a quester is just a person who goes on a quest, whether or not he knows it’s a quest. In fact, usually he doesn’t know. Items (b) and (c) should be considered together: someone tells our protagonist, our hero, who need not look very heroic, to go somewhere and do something. Go in search of the Holy Grail. Go to the store for bread. Go to Vegas and whack...

Sep 23, 2010 - Roadside Service

Holy cow! I hardly recognized yesterday it was so different from the one I had planned. Let me start out by saying that we almost never stay at a Wal-Mart. We like our creature comforts, especially the air conditioning during warm weather. Since the weather is cooler now (we’ve had our heat of for a couple weeks), we planned a night at Wal-Mart for this trip south. Yesterday was the day for that Wal-Mart stay. So this is how the plan went. We were going to stay in the campground in Brattlesboro until check-out. We didn’t want to arrive at...

Jul 25, 2008 - Eastward HO!

Fri 7/25…..we're still cruising and plan to be home sometime on Saturday. Unfortunately, I didn't finish this journal the way I had planned. The overheating problem was a major distraction, but everything seems to be working out OK. We had planned to follow Rte 66 where ever it was still open, but time became a factor, and all though we did parallel it most of the way, I didn't get a chance to take any pics. Missed a lot of nostalgic shots. 7/26... after a driving marathon we arrived home at 3 pm., safe and sound to a teary eyed welcoming...
