Today was a good day for a train ride and a silver mine tour. We drove 100 miles north and west of the Academy to the little town (really a little, little town- pop. 170 in 2010)of Silver Plume. Silver Plume was and still is a depot stop on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Built in 1884, the 3 foot narrow gauge railroad was an engineering marvel for its time. The train completes a loop around and through the towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume. A loop was created that winds its way since the elevation change between the two towns was over...
