Jun 30, 2017 - Seibert, Colorado

June 30, 2017, Lots of construction on the roads in both Utah and Wyoming. Our freeway drops down to 2 lanes repeatedly. They seem to be retrofitting lots of bridges. Headed to Colorado today. We have cloudy skies today and the temp is much cooler. We are cruising at around 8000’ mos of the time, highest elevation was 8636 but we have dropped to near 6000’. Traffic around Denver was terrible, lots of construction, lots of cars and one car stopped in the fast lane. The road that cuts most of that out was a toll road so we did not take...

Off to Indianapolis

Oct 8, 2014 - Lincoln Monument

From Shady Grove RV Park RPI I didn’t think we would do any sightseeing but we stumbled upon something today. We needed to stop at a rest stop to walk the dogs and get some lunch. It was the site of the Lincoln Monument which sits on a hill overlooking I-80. We have seen it each time we have been out here but never stopped and couldn’t figure out why there would be a statute of Lincoln in Wyoming. The rest stop, Curt Dowdy State Park and The Lincoln Monument are all at the same place. Between Cheyenne and Laramie, I-80 climbs to its highest...

Oct 12, 2013 - OTRA - CO - Seibert

We’ve not been to Colorado yet so today that’s exactly where we’re headed. They’ve had a LOT of flooding in the northeast section of the state but I was able to find a Passport America campground that wasn’t affected. So off we go, under sunny skies, on our 156-mile journey to Seibert Colorado. Pulled into the Shady Grove Campground around 2:00 p.m. This campground appears to be in the owner’s back yard in a sleepy, not very alive town but it has what we need for very reasonable rates so we’ll be happy for the 2 nights we’ll be here. The...

Jul 17, 2012 - Finally another state or two

Tonight we’re in Seibert, CO, population 180 from the 2000 census and it looks like it. The downtown area has a grocery store, the US post office, and a city hall. The rest of the buildings are closed down and look like they have been for many, many, many years. The day started out earlier than normal. We left Amarillo about 9 am. We crossed into OK at 1145 and CO at 1230 and at that time we also entered the Mountain Time Zone. It’s amazing, we drove over 600 miles and were still in Texas and here we started in one state, drove through...

We had a nice drive from Cheyenne to Seibert, Co. We decided to bypass Denver and take the country route through several small towns. What beautiful country. We arrived around three in the afternoon. Later that evening there was a tornado watch issued and Monday morning we awoke to rain and gusty winds. Our next stop is Russell, Kansas.

Sep 14, 2010 - Seibert, Colorado

We left Emporia at 10:30 this morning, both of us very excited to be starting another leg of our journey. The original plan was to stop in Hays, KS for the night and check out the fort there but once we were on the road, and it was an easy drive, we decided to go further. I found a PA campground right off of I70 in Seibert, Co; Shady Grove. They offered full hookups and with the discount it only cost $13.50 for the night. The campground was a nice place for a one night stop over, since it was really out in the middle of nowhere! On the way...

Aug 3, 2010 - Tuesday August 3 Seibert CO

We were up and on the road early. The weather was still warm (80degrees @ 8 AM) and there was a humid fog. We returned to I-70 and drove west through more cattle ranches and then back into corn fields. We also started seeing a lot of sunflower fields and the yellow was a pretty break from the green and brown. We stopped a rest area for a pleasant lunch. The temperature was about 85, but after yesterday it felt a lot better. We noticed that it was a lot less humid in western Kansas. We passed back into Mountain time before we left Kansas....

T's 2010 Wanderings

Mar 20, 2010 - The Rocky Mountains

Awoke the morning to cool temps. Good thing we put the hoses away last night, quite certain they would have been frozen this morning. We got going around 10:30 this morning. The roads weren’t as bad as we expected them, but as we climbed the Rocky Mountains, there was more snow on the sides of the roads. We drove through several of the many ski resorts towns, such as Vale and Eagle, and the ski trails were very full of skiers enjoying the new snow. They say that Denver is the mile-high city, however many of the ski resort towns are much...

Jun 21, 2008 - In the middle of the High plains (Nowhere USA)

After a great visit in Wichita, I headed west to Colorado. Traveling on Interstate 70 through more prairie. There was a lot of prairie, It was pretty and all that, just a lot of it. I stopped at the Sternberg museum. Plenty of dinosaurs and other interesting stuff. Nice way to stretch the legs. Finished just in Colorado at a campground run by a hippie straight out of the 60s. What a hoot.
