Sep 22, 2018 - Wonderland RV Park - Torrey, Utah

We are finally back in civilization. We have water, electricity, sewer, cable TV, wifi, laundry, SHOWERS in Wonderland RV Park in Torrey Utah - just outside Capital Reef National Park. Huge green trees here provide welcome shade from the 80F sun. After 3 days in Ridgway (off the grid) we headed to Utah's Goblin State Park. One of our favorite places. Remote but often full. Not many RV sites but they are usually booked up 3 months in advance. But the website allows one to put a request in if there is an opening. Both times I did that - I...

19 September 2018 – Ridgway Colorado We’ve been off the grid for the past three days – no internet connection so no update in the journal. We have decided to bypass our stop at Moab and stay an extra night at Ridgway because it is so beautiful here. We haven’t been able to read newspapers online but we listen to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC at 7:00 p.m. What madness in America regarding the Cavenaugh appointment. The radio talk show response is so disgusting. This whole issue has brought back awful memories of the Thomas-Hill Senate questioning...

Jul 21, 2013 - Pa-Co-Chu-Puc S.P.

This is our second trip to the Ridgway State Park area, today we visited the Pa-Co-Chu-Puk Camp Site. Three and a half miles north of The Dutch Charlie are two more loops that make up The Pa-Co-Chu-Puk. Each of these loops are out in the open, they have full hook-ups making them perfect for RV’s. Across the Uncompahgre River, adjacent to the rest of the park, 15 walk-in tent sites are open to the happy-to-hike camper. These sites offer rustic views set in ponderosa pine, oak, and pinon trees that gently crawl up the rising slope of Log Hill...

We visited Ridgway State Park today, it is one of the most beautiful state parks we have seen. Ridgway Park is centered around a 1,000-surface-acre reservoir developed by the Bureau of Reclamation and run by the state of Colorado. Incredible mountain scenery mingles with magnificent campgrounds, some with full hook-ups. They also have a beautiful swimming area with a white sandy beach with a five-mile long reservoir, beautiful picnic areas, and extensive walking trails, some right along the river. The Uncompahgre River flows below the...

Jun 23, 2010 - Ridgway State Park, CO

Arrived here late afternoon yesterday. It was warm with a strong breeze. Campsite #175 with electric. Short trees surrounding the site but no real shade. Have electrical hookup so can use the a/c. Bruce and Jo due here today. The breeze has since died down and the temps warmed up. Very hot...a problem since I've developed a lupus rash on the top of my hands. Very, very uncomfortable and hard to treat. Equally hard to keep out of the sun. Bruce and Jo are here but in a different loop which turns out to be much farther away that it looks on...

Aug 24, 2008 - Ridgway State Park in Ridgway Colorado

August 24, 2008 After breakfast we drove around the South Rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison and then down into the canyon on the East Portal Road. In 1909 the 5.8 mile Gunnison Diversion Tunnel was finished at this site and still delivers river water for irrigation to the Uncompahgre Valley. The road to the Diversion Tunnel is extremely steep with 16 percent grades and hairpin curves. It is open only in summer and vehicles over 22 feet are not allowed on the road. It provides beautiful views as you drive down into the canyon. One of the...
