Sep 14, 2013 - Nice To Spend The Day With Peg

Peg used to work at Buckhorn. When her husband passed away she came back home to Pueblo to be with family and friends. She and I did many things together when I wintered in Texas two years ago and I promised if I was ever in her area I would look her up. Peg picked me up at the hotel at llam ( mountain time) and we spent the rest of the day together. We had a delicious lunch at the Nature Center and then strolled the Riverwalk. Not quite the San Antonio Riverwalk but pleasant just the same. She drove me all over town giving me the history...

Aug 12, 2013 - Happy Monday

The skies are blue, but full of clouds, both puffy white ones and dark grey - very ominous. Garry tells me we drove 495 miles today, reason: we left one time zone this morning and entered another this afternoon - we gained an hour, so we drove an extra two. We are bedding down at a KOA Kampground in Pueblo, CO. We got here around 5pm and just finished setting up before the dark grey clouds opened up and poured upon us. First, the winds came and I honestly thought Waldo (the RV) was going to blow over. It was rocking like a canoe on a...

Aug 1, 2013 - Day 4 - Pueblo Colorado

Started this post yesterday (Thurs) but couldn't get tripjournal to load it. We took the railway up to Pike's Peak and looked around Manitou Springs before going back to Lake Pueblo State Park. We left this morning (Fri) and decided to start up northwest through Colorado toward Salt Lake City. Today's drive has been beautiful through the mountains and along the Arkansas River. Will try to post again tonight with today's pictures. Rich and Lin

Jun 20, 2013 - amarillo to pueblo

Left Amarillo this morning after 2 days there. Enjoyed the Big Texan Steakhouse - then stayed a day because of a storm and Harold's knee. Left this morning and stopped at Capulin Volcano Nat'l Park in New Mexico. Rode up with Aaron and Marla - people we met. Enjoyed the view then continued on to Pueblo - the farthest we've been yet. At least we finally left Texas. In Pueblo at KOA - going to Colorado Springs to see Katie in the morning. Feeling good today - just really hot!

Apr 15, 2012 - Pueblo

Well to borrow Willy Nelson's song title its 'On the road again'. We departed Amarillo and headed north through Oklahoma and into Colorado. I forgot to mention that we had to have a 12000 mile service done on the RV. I figured I would have to find Lily a job to pay for it or at least call my kids to get a loan. Anyway I booked it in at SouthWest Ford in Weatherford Texas. And waited. At my age I have to be a little careful of sudden shocks so I had them bring me the bill while I was sitting down. It was almost too much for me when I read...

Jan 29, 2012 - Pueblo Riverwalk

We visited the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo today. It is a 32 acre waterfront inspired by the famous San Antonio Riverwalk. On and around the Riverwalk is a mixture of unique boutiques, restaurants, cultural attractions, and festivals. More than 450,000 visitors stroll on the Riverwalk each year. We also visited the Sangre de Cristo Art Center for a special Valentine's Day event. They had about 40 vendors with candles, jewelry, chocolates, purses, perfume, beauty products and more. We registered for quite a few drawing. They were...

Sep 16, 2011 - Dodge City, KS

The rain finally stopped so we ventured out today to see the sights. It was still overcast in some of the pictures, but the sun did finally come out for a while. As you know, there is a lot of history here. Apparently, Dodge City had no law and order for quite some time and shootings were a daily occurrence before Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson and Doc Holliday brought some order to town. Those who had no money and were killed were buried in Boot Hill. After they cleaned the town up somewhat, families moved in and several stores, churches and...

Sep 14, 2011 - Colorado/Kansas

Went through Colorado today. Western side is similar to Utah, but as you move toward the northeastern part of the state, the mountains are so beautiful it's almost awe inspiring. Leaving Utah, we passed the Dewey Suspension Bridge (or what was left of it). It was built in 1916 and at the time was the 2nd largest suspension bridge west of the Mississippi. It was consumed by fire on April 8, 2008 so all that's left now is the upper part of the bridge and the connectors hanging down that used to hold the floor of the bridge. We went through...

Aug 4, 2011 - Day Before the Trip

Yep, you guessed it....I can't sleep! That's okay though. Eventually I will, but I have to get ready to leave in about four hours. I'm pretty pumped. Well I don't have much to say because I am pretty tired. I hope the videos and pictures I load will turn out pretty great. I'm going to have lots of fun though. My next post will be in San Francisco. :) K. Colvin

Sep 15, 2010 - Where did the Rockies go?

Set out this morning from Glenwood Springs, Colorado in the Western foothills of the Rockies. Sunny skies and warm temps prevailed. Had a great ride into the Rockies and through Independence Pass. This road crosses the Continental Divide at 12,000 feet elevation so we stopped and climbed the hill for the photo op. The winds were whipping and the temps were chilly but the camera called. Mary didn't have her winter beanie so she chose to hike up in her motorcycle helmet. Lots of pretty views, including the aspens yellowing up for the fall. A...
