The first draft of this update was lost when my computer froze up. I hope I didn't forget anything. As we are finishing up our last week of training, we begin to think about what we've encountered here. What started as simple language learning techniques has rapidly evolved into gut-wrenching, internal, soul-searching and asking God to show us places that we need to change or surrender. Apr 4, 2010 - 1st Week of Training

We finally made it to Colorado and we just finished our first week of training at MTI, or Missionary Training International. The focus so far has been on language. It has been interesting to learn about the history of language, and about the biblical reasons for different languages. English only requires about 44 sounds, but humans are capable of making over 500,000 known and recorded sounds. We have been learning to pronounce hundreds of new sounds, as well as read and understand a symbol chart that represents all of the most common...

Mar 29, 2010 - Training Day

Today, we finally arrived at our destination, which is the campus of Missionary Training International in Palmer Lake, Colorado. This small town sits in-between Colorado Springs and Denver, so the location is wonderful. The high altitude will be a slight adjustment for us (over 7200 feet), as Rae has already had one nosebleed. There is still lots of snow on the ground, and of course the mountains are always beautiful. The staff has been extra friendly, and the rooms are nice & clean.
