Aug 29, 2013 - Still Colorado

Today is my last day in Colorado. :( Went to The Boulder Teahouse today. The entire building was imported from China. Tons of teas, but we settled on Russian Caravan, a black tea with a hint of spiciness. The food menu looked great as well, but unfortunately our server was not great, so we decided to go elsewhere for food. Good thing too, because we went to Foolish Craig's which has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives! They make everything from scratch, including their breads! We shared the BLT guacamole and the grilled chicken...

Aug 28, 2013 - Colorado baby!

Wow! What an amazing day! Nancy took me to some amazing sites today via dirt roads where we needed 4WD. The 'locals tour'. I was speechless on many occasions (Hard to believe, I know.) with the beauty that was before me. Pictures just don't do it justice. We even visited a couple of ghost towns. We picked up Opal (Nancy and Dave's 7-year-old daughter) and headed into town. I rode a carosel for the first time in many years, and had Guiness stout caramel chocolate chip ice cream. Yummy! Nederland is adorable. Cute little shops and...

Aug 27, 2013 - Colorado Bound

Worked today from North Platte, NE today, but it was my last day of work. As of 5p ET I was officially on VACATION!! Pretty cool that I was already half way across the country when my vacation started. :) Drove to Nancy and Dave's in Nederland, CO this evening. Elevation ~9000 feet. The views up the mountain were AMAZING! A nice difference after the hundred miles of cornfields in Nebraska.

Sep 19, 2011 - Arapaho Glacier Trail hike

Lynne was determined to visit Nederland as she had heard so much about it's unique shops, amazing outdoor beauty, and vibrant music scene. Nederland started out as a trading post between the Ute Indians and European Settlers during the 1850s. The first economic boom to the town came when gold, silver, & tungsten ore were discovered near the rich mines of Caribou in 1859 and Eldora in 1875. Our 2 hour journey from Loveland to the trail took us via the vibrant city of Boulder up a winding mountainous road through the town of Nederland, the...

Sep 15, 2011 - Colorado Baby. Yeah.

When we woke up it suddenly wasn't summer anymore. We ate blueberry bagels in the car as we drove through the vast, flat plains of eastern Colorado. We stopped off at a Loves for coffee and picked up some free scratchies. Bella won $2(we think.) We invested this in breakfast. The nice Colorado Lotteries guy gave us free plastic thingies to use as scratchers, and one of those branded caribina things. It broke shortly there after. A man dressed as a chicken was wondering around the parking lot. We drove on to Denver. We had a Shanna to catch...

Jun 25, 2011 - Weekend with Family

Saturday, the 25th, we drove up to Nederland, CO to spend the weekend with my youngest brother and his wife. The first thing I noticed as we drove into town, (they are at 8200 ft) were the lilac bushes in full bloom!!! I love lilacs. Because they are so high, they were experiencing late spring. The tulips were blooming and the trees were still in their spring colors. The snow is melting off the mountains and the creeks and streams were running fast and high. We spent the weekend visiting, hiking (at 9000 ft), catching our breath and...

Jul 4, 2010 - July 4

One of the reasons we came to Loveland Colorado was to visit John and Marsha. John went to high school with Dick and they grew up on the same street in East Herkimer, NY. Last year we drove our car down from Wyoming to visit them and they took us through Big Thompson Canyon and into Estes Park. We were so intrigued by the beautiful scenery we had to come back for a longer stay. Besides their lovely home in Loveland, they have a cabin up on the mountain above Nederland, Co. We followed them there for a delightful 4th of July. We did not stop...
