Aug 20, 2018 - Shopping and Dinner

Payday is tomorrow, so we decided to get in a bit of shopping before we moved up the hill to Woodland Park. I picked up some yarn for the next baby afghan at JoAnns. Then we met niece Sue at Costco so we could use her card to get a few things. This was really hard, as I saw many things I would have like to get had we not lived in and RV with limited storage space. Then we had to kill a bit of time before meeting friends Lanny and Suzanne for dinner at Olive Garden. We had been looking forward to this, both for the company and because it had...

Aug 19, 2018 - Steve's Visit

Kid number 2 and girlfriend Randa came for supper today. Funny, I gave them the same instruction I gave to Daren, and he got lost as well, but did finally find our spot. Dinner tonight was pork chops with garlic smashed potatoes and green beans. No dessert. We enjoyed our visit, even though we were stuck inside the trailer due to unseasonably cool temperatures. After all the time we spent in Arizona, we were freezing to death. Don kept complaining of hyperthermia, although he did appear to live through it just fine.

Aug 17, 2018 - Big Kid

We finally convinced our oldest son to come visit us for dinner. He and Margot arrived right on time, which means fashionably late, of course due to getting lost in the campground. Don grilled pork tenderloin, which we paired with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. Margot brought cherry pie and ice cream for dessert, Don’s favorite. Afterwards we all walked across the street for a soak in the hot tub. We thoroughly enjoyed their visit. Don got another kid fix and Margot and I had time to finalize plans for Lacie’s bridal shower.

Aug 16, 2018 - Another Good Day with Family and Friends

We met long-time friends and former neighbors, Jan and Sue for lunch today at the Village Inn. We had not seen them since we visited with them in Florida last December. They worked for us last year in the campgound in Pagosa Springs. They have been doing some traveling over the winter with Jan’s sister-in-law from England. And since then have been trying to figure out if they want to travel or have a home, or possibly do both. We had a good and lengthy lunch, and parted ways with no idea when we will be able to get together again After a...

Aug 12, 2018 - Golf With The Nephews

After a quick breakfast at home, we left early to meet Chris way on the other side of Colorado Springs. From there we drove to the golf course for a game with the nephews. Since none of us could get to our favorite course in Pagosa Springs, we had to opt for a local course instead. It was a good day. I rode along, of course, and kept score. Ha! We decided that all scores were approximate. By the end of the day, all of us were tired and sunburned. Chris treated us all to a steak for dinner afterwards, and a well-deserved drink was had by all!

Aug 11, 2018 - A Long-Awaited Breakfast

This morning we went to the fire department breakfast in Colorado Springs. This is for the retired firemen, and is only held every 3 months. We were lucky to be in town so Don was able to attend. And, although wives are generally not at the breakfast, I went with him, with plans to see my friend, Linda. We had arranged this ahead of time. She was a little nervous about us being there, so we sat toward the back out of the way. Then the MC announced that breakfast was ready, and they could begin serving, ladies first. So much for being...

Aug 10, 2018 - A Better Day

This morning we went into town to have breakfast with Don’s school friends, Al and Deb. They were not at the reunion, so it was good to see them. We made plans to see them again on the 25th when we all go to Canon City for a wine tasting. After breakfast we drove to nephew Chris’s shop so he could help Don pull the hitch to see if it could be repaired. They were able to heat the pin and bend it back into shape. It was even a fairly easy fix, with the hitch coming apart easily. And Chris had the right equipment in his shop to pull the whole...

Jul 5, 2017 - A few days off

Jan finally made it to the campground to help Sue. With their recommendation, I hired another woman, Lynette, to be the extra help for the busiest months of July and August. Of course that meant that we had to give her our extra truck so she could work the campground. And we were back to riding together, trying to get our work done. So, with Leonard in place at Bridge, the girls in place at Williams Creek and our host at Westfork settled down, we drove to Monument (after going to the bank and the post office with company stuff) for a...

Jul 4, 2017 - Independence Day 2017 in Monument, CO

Happy Independence Day, Friends! Today, we drove about 5 miles north of the USAF Academy to the town of Monument. This little town had a population of 5530 as of the 2010 census. But, today, that swelled to more like 15,000. Everyone from around the area was in town to see the parade, check out the vendor tents and listen to free music in the city park. The city provided free parking at the two high schools. And, the school buses brought passengers from the schools to the downtown area where all of the festivities were taking place. It is...

Oct 13, 2016 - Rocky Mountain Relatives

2016-10-12.Rocky Mountain Highs The highlight of the last week has been our visit with my cousin Eileen and her husband Dan Howard in Monument, Colorado. We also got to see my cousin Tim and his wife, KJ who live near Denver. It was so nice to see all of them and to spend so much time with Eileen and Dan and their Aussie, Buck. Roadie had the best time of all, running all over the house and yard, taking every single toy out of Buck’s toy box and eviscerating each one until there was pillow stuffing all over Eileen’s house. I don’t think...
