Oct 12, 2020 - Leaving Soon

We went in to breakfast with Chris this morning, at Gunther Toody’s, one of our favorite breakfast places. There was supposed to be 5 of us, but only Chris could make it this morning. We did get our favorite breakfast of chicken fried chicken and eggs, though, so not a bad deal. This afternoon I went with Sue to Costco. She had agreed to take me so I could lay in some supplies for our time in Big Bend, where the nearest shopping is 50 miles or 132 miles away. I went with a list, determined to not take too much time. And it might have worked...

Oct 11, 2020 - The TV

Gene agreed to help us with our TV. The wiring was all messed up from the beginning. The first time we tried to set up our satellite, the tech had to virtually re-wire the whole system. Unfortunately, when he did that he disconnected the wire that goes to the external antenna, so we can only watch TV with the satellite, and no longer have the option of cable or antenna viewing. Well, he worked for several hours, and I think he was getting frustrated that he couldn’t find the wire (and who knows whatever happened to it in the first place.)...

Oct 10, 2020 - He is One!

For breakfast we met Linda and Larry in town at the Village Inn their son Lance manages. This was another rain check as they were also bumped when Don took off to the ranch as we first got here. Also a retired fireman, there were many more stories, and lots of catching up to do. After breakfast Don went arrow-head hunting with Steve while I got caught caught up with housekeeping stuff. This afternoon we went to our great grandson James’ first birthday party. It was just for a few family members, but Lacie went all out with the decorations...

Oct 9, 2020 - More Visiting (and food of course!)

We drove home on the 6th, and enjoyed some down time with just us and the kitty before we got in the visiting mode again. While running errands (still working on the hitch) we stopped to visit Lanny and Suzanne, and ended up having dinner with them that evening. An old fireman buddy, Lanny and Don had a good time regaling us with stories of their shenanigans in the firehouse while they were on the job. The next day we tried again to get the catch plate to adjust, but finally broke down and went to order a new one, one specifically designed...

Oct 5, 2020 - Breakfast, Plumtaw and Dinner

After slept in a bit, this time with no feline interruptions, and headed over to joing the guys for their usual Monday morning 'old guys' breakfast. There were only a few this morning, but it was nice to connect with them again. Afterwards we drove Plumtaw Road. This has always been the best road to drive for leaf viewing, and it did not disappoint. The aspen really outdid themselves this year! We weren't able to see Robert and Glenda, as they cancelled due to illness. For dinner we met Phyl and Charles at the Italian place, which used to...

Oct 4, 2020 - Back to Pagosa

Since we still had a couple more days left on the timeshare reservation, we came back to Pagosa. We had already planned to have dinner with Phyl and Charles on Monday evening. We got a reasonably late start, mostly because we slept in after having to get up at 3:30 to feed the kitty! and Don drove through Salida again. It is always pretty driving through the canyon, even with the Arkansas as low as it is. At least we didn’t have to stop to look for his phone this time! We got back to Pagosa around 4:30, and went straight to Rosie’s for...

Oct 3, 2020 - Happy Kitty

We drove back to Monument today, since we had already left the kitty for 3 nights. She was VERY happy to see us, and expected a lot of pets and food and lap time. We took the scenic route, driving through Buena Vista, over Wilkerson Pass and through Manitou Springs. We were amazed and appalled at the amount of traffic! I can only imagine what rush hour looks like! Don thought it was a lot of leaf lookers, since they were all headed up the mountain as we came down. Dinner was the pork chops that Lacie gave us, plus mashed potatoes and fried...

Oct 2, 2020 - The Knee

We slept in a little bit, then I actually cooked breakfast. I also cooked dinner this evening, chili burgers after wine on the patio. We tried the habanero cheese that Don got yesterday; it was really good, and had a definite kick to it. I grated the remainder on top of the chili burgers. The goal today was a visit to Dr. Mallette to see what could be done with Don’s knee. She assured him that he really did need to have the knee replaced, but could not schedule before the end of November. Which does not fit our schedule at all! So that will...

Oct 1, 2020 - Pagosa and Durango

After our favorite breakfast, enchilada and eggs, at Colorado Café, we drove up the hill to Williams Creek and Teal to look at the leaves. The aspen were putting on an especially good show this year, with a lot of reds and brilliant yellows. The campgrounds were closed, but there were still a lot of people out just viewing the leaves. We made it into Durango with a bit of time to spare, so with Gas Buddy, I found the cheapest fuel in town and we filled up the tank. Then, during the appointment, while waiting for the doctor to come in I got...

Sep 30, 2020 - A Better Day, Almost

What do you do when you want to figure something out? You Google it! And Google told me how to get a new Medicare card. So along with everything else, we loaded up the printer to take with us to Pagosa so I could print the Medicare card. Our first stop was at Aunt Mary’s in Canon City, to return her gift basket and to thank her and Agnes in person for the grizzly bear paw candy she sent us by way of Kelly. After a short visit, we went away with 4 muffins and a cup of cherry tomatoes (just to get us down the road, you know.) Our next stop...

Sep 29, 2020 - A Good Start; Not So Good End

We got a fairly early start today so we could meet Dean and Kelly, Rod and Pat, and Cory for breakfast this morning. We went to a new (to us) restaurant. We could not believe all the new buildings in town as we drove to the restaurant. Pretty sad when you have to use GPS to get around a town we lived in for 25 years! It took a long time to get served, but the food was good, and the company was better. Afterwards, we drove clear down to the south end of town to check on shims for the catch plate for our trailer hitch. The first place (Camper...

Sep 27, 2020 - Dinner

Lacie and Mike were supposed to bring their pop up camper and camp with us for a couple of nights. BUT, because it was so cold in the morning, and because their camper does not stay all that warm, they decided to forego the camping and invited us over for dinner at their place instead. We stopped by the store to pick up some makings for cheesecake, then arrived a bit before James got up from his nap. Lacie said that Dean, Kelly and Cory were going to join us for dinner. While waiting for them to arrive, we went out to tour the LocalMotive...
