Oct 8, 2018 - Cousins

2018-10-08. Cousins Whenever we travel west, we always plan a stop either coming or going to visit my brother and cousins who are in Colorado. The visit with my brother didn't happen because of scheduling issues but we did spend several days with my cousin Eileen and her husband Dan in Monument, Colorado, a little north of Colorado Springs. Bob always wants to stay for at least three breakfasts because Eileen is a wonderful cook and hostess and her Chile Relleno cassarole and Cinnamon Apple Dutch Baby can't be beat Add to that, great...

Oct 7, 2018 - Eating Again

As this was to be our last day (presuming the wind was not a factor tomorrow) we met Dennis and Diane for breakfast this morning. They drove again, and after much discussion about where we should go, we ended up at Village Inn. And again, went away full. After breakfast we found a (more or less) reasonably priced filling station to fill up for our potential drive tomorrow. Then went home to get the trailer cleaned up and dishes done as Laurie was coming over for a visit. She came alone, but bearing gifts of goodies from Whole Foods Market....

Oct 6, 2018 - The Game

We were supposed to pull out this day, but since it was the day of the Oklahoma/Texas football game we obviously had to stay. We went over to Dennis and Diane’s to watch the game and they were good enough to let me use their washer and dryer to get my laundry done. We figured we would just watch the game and that would be it, but Diane had set out a variety of munchies, then made nachos for halftime (lunch.) Dennis had to work for a few hours, so missed most of the game. We had burritos with homemade green chili for dinner when he got...

Oct 5, 2018 - Laurie and John

As planned, we drove to Rio Rancho, then rode with Dennis and Diane over to Laurie’s place. She and John met us at the door; after hugs all around we went inside for drinks and a lovely buffet of snacks that Laurie had prepared. It was such fun getting caught up! Both were in good health, with the possible exception of a broken rib for John. Laurie was a new grandma, and had a full album of pictures of her adorable little granddaughter. After an hour or so, we headed out for our reservation at a pizza place. They had an interesting...

Oct 4, 2018 - Dinner and Gambling

We made arrangements to have dinner with Dennis and Diane this evening. They were going to take us to dinner at the casino and then do a bit of gambling. So we went over to get our players card and to check out the restaurant. Well, the one in the casino was pretty minimal, i.e. just a short order type of kitchen with a daily special. There is another restaurant in the filling station nearby, but it proved to be the same type of thing. We tried to contact the Bro, but they were already on the way here. After they got here, we described the...

Oct 3, 2018 - San Felipe

This being balloon weekend in Albuquerque, we elected to stay at the Black Mesa Casino about 26 miles north. Pretty nice place with wide pull-through spaces, 50 amp electric, wifi and a dump station. Perfect! Since we were not sure what our schedule would be, we only paid for 3 nights, and did not fully unload the back end.

Oct 2, 2018 - On the Way

We got out at a reasonable time this morning with only a few sprinkle drips. Our goal is Albuquerque, but we planned to stop in Las Vegas for the night. Don swore we had stayed in this place before, but we had to look pretty hard to get there. There being Lake Storrie State Park. Nice place, but dry camping. We got set up and got through happy hour just in time for serious winds and rain to come through, thanks to the last hurricane.

Oct 1, 2018 - Toward the End of Our Journey

I had intended to make this the last entry in this journal, but as my husband pointed out, we are still playing. Therefore, it will continue for the rest of this month. We have spent the last 2 weeks in Monument. Obviously the first week was full of getting ready for the wedding, the wedding and cleaning up and recovering from the wedding. The second week was filled with visiting family and friends, all of which finally figured out that we were leaving soon. It was funny, really. The last day we were literally saying goodbye to one couple...

Sep 23, 2018 - Afterwards

We went over to the house to see if we could help with the cleanup. And good thing we did, since it was only the grooms parents, Daren and Margot, and us. We packed up all the table decorations, folded and then loaded the tables, figured out what to do with the leftover flowers, wine and beer kegs. We were there about 3-4 hours, and the others had started even before we got there. The rental company took down the large tents. And the stage rental people folded and removed the stage. It all looked pretty good when done! We had spent much...

Sep 22, 2018 - THE WEDDING!

There are not words to adequately describe this day. Lacie was breathtaking in her gown. The bridesmaids were beautiful and the groomsmen were handsome. The 2 ring bearers and the flower girl were adorable. And the groom was so happy. We thought he was going to cry or faint as he watched his bride come down the isle. But he held on (literally, he leaned and held on to the pew!) and made it until given to him by Daren, the father of the bride. They were able to sit during much of the service. And it was truly the best and most personal...

Sep 21, 2018 - Rehearsal

We were all at the church this afternoon for the wedding rehearsal. We met the groom’s father and many of the attendants for the first time. The rehearsal was conducted by the deacon, who managed to keep us all in order. Afterward we met again at the home the groom’s parents (Bob and Joan) had rented for the weekend. It was a lovely place overlooking Monument Lake, and large enough to accommodate a large number of people. They did a wonderful barbecue, accompanied by salads made by the bride’s mom, Tammy. Several people who were not at the...

Sep 18, 2018 - Back in Monument

This day saw us back in the campground in Monument. The highway noise was even more apparent after the quiet and solitude of the ranch. But we had been looking forward to utilizing the hot tub again, and were very unpleasantly surprised to learn that it was closed up for the winter. Sigh. Of course we visited with family and friends, but the whole reason for coming back was our granddaughter’s wedding.
