May 27, 2019 - Bolder Boulder 10k Race

The Bolder Boulder was founded in 1979 as a small, local 10k (6.2 mi) & since has grown to one of the largest & respected community running events in the world. Every year it is run on Memorial Day with more than 50,000 participants & over 70,000 spectators. There are various bands all along the route which winds it way through Boulder's residential streets. May 27, 2019 - North of Denver May 23-24, 2019

Our drive north to the Denver area gave us a view of the snow event from Monday. Our original plan was to stay in Denver for 3 nights to visit one of Tom’s high school friends. But his friend was in California, so we decided to head for Longmont because they have county fairgrounds that have a campground. The fairgrounds include the county Animal Humane shelter, which has a huge volunteer dog walking program. There was a pretty constant stream of dogs walking from 8-5. We also had Canada Geese and goslings in the field right behind us. We...

May 27, 2019 - Boulder County Fairgrounds May 22 - May 27

We came out of the high country to Longmont Colorado and stayed in the RV campground at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. Other than the usual fairground indoor and outdoor arenas and exhibit halls, there is a beautiful nature pond that attracts multiple species of birds and mammals such as beavers. It was fun walking around the pond in the mornings and evenings. Events that occurred while we were there camping was a miniature horse show, a Farmer's Market Day, and a Home Show. Sue's cousin Deb Kulscar and her husband met us for dinner at...

Aug 17, 2018 - At the Foot of the Rockies

Today's trip had 3 legs. The first was from Rapid City to Alliance NE. Once I got outside of Rapid City there was only one town, Chadron, for the 150 miles or so to Alliance. Outside Alliance is Carhenge which is a bunch of cars stacked and painted gray to resemble Stonehenge in England. This is one of those quirky "roadside America" places I wanted to stop at. It was another 125 miles to I-25. Since I took a bypass around Scottsbluff NE, I did not go through another town. That's 375 miles and passed through 2 towns. Remote doesn't begin to...

Oct 11, 2017 - Home at last

When I was a kid, I cut out a picture of a house that looked somewhat like the one we lived in. I pasted it onto a piece of green construction paper and wrote, "There are lots of nice places but home is the best." Not sure why I remember that but I still feel the same way.

Jun 6, 2016 - St. Vrain State Park

Our time in Colorado is coming to a close for this summer. St. Vrain was a quiet, beautiful place to spend the Memorial weekend. We enjoyed a nice picnic here in the park with Jack and Sue. John and Barbara came out to camp with us in their motor home after the holiday. We enjoyed a marathon of cards and games plus lots of wonderful food and a couple of campfires. John took Bill and I on a road trip that included parts of the Longmont area we had not seen before. We celebrated our 22nd anniversary while we were here. The day before Larry...

Oct 11, 2015 - St. Vrain State Park

We've enjoyed two more weeks of beautiful fall weather here in Colorado. Tuesday we will begin our journey back to Oklahoma. We'll actually stay at the Roadrunner RV Park again as it has reopened from the tornado. We're anxious to see family and friends there and complete our medical checkups and RV repair business so we can head to Arizona for the winter. John and Barbara came to St. Vrain from Loveland to spend a few days with us. We really enjoyed our time with them here and again last night in their beautiful home in Loveland. In...

Oct 10, 2013 - Day33

When I was 7 or 8, I made an "art" project. I had a piece of green construction paper on which I pasted a picture of a house I cut out of a magazine. Underneath the picture, I wrote in red crayon, "There are lots of nice places but home is the best." I have no idea what the inspiration was for that particular creation, but it's still true -- at least for me. We got home mid-day today, and now comes the not-fun part: cleaning out and cleaning up the trailer and truck. It was a great trip, and it is great to be home. We are grateful to family...

New England 2013

Aug 19, 2013 - Departure is Near

Another beautiful day in lovely Longmont. Sue and I drove to Boulder to Celestial Seasonings factory. We had a really cool tour and then had lunch in their cafe. Of course, we shopped in the Tea Store before we left. Fun, Fun, Fun! That evening, we all headed to Prospect, CO for a fun event in the park. Prospect is an awesome little town. I had to include the attached link because I just can't explain what it's like. Every Monday evening from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, a live band plays in the park and a bunch of food trucks line the streets. It's...

Aug 17, 2013 - Longmont Farmer's Market

Another fabulous breakfast prepared by Sue and Conrad - breakfast burritos with everything from the garden. Yum, Yum! We all piled in the Suburban and headed to the Farmer's Market in downtown Longmont. I bought a circle of soap that had loofah in it. We got a jar of spicy pickled beets and some corn on the cob to take with us on the road. Sue and Con made an awesome dinner. Katie and her husband Clayton joined us. We ate so many things from their garden. Sue made broccoli salad, potato salad and a fava bean salad with onions and...

Jul 14, 2011 - St Vrain State Park

Left my daughter's home in the Colorado mountains and traveled to the park where I volunteered last summer for a few months...visited with friends from last year and had to evacuate my site on the north side of the park about 8 pm as they were concerned that a dam might give was on the St Vrain river. All the campers on the south side had to evacuate and most moved to the south side as I did. All was fine the next morning and I left for the Black Hills.

Jun 25, 2011 - Worthing Adventure 2011 Last Day

Last day of actual vacation. Spent the last couple of days with Mitch and Jean in Colorado. Yesterday we went to Estes Park, CO to do some shopping and to see the Stanley House. It's the house that Stephen King based "The Shining" on. It was kinda neat to see it. Just now heading out ... this will be my last blog for this trip. Hope you all enjoyed the pictures and the blog!
