Jul 23, 2013 - Chatfield State Park

Fri., July 19th – Steve had the oil changed in the truck at Flagstaff this morning. The rest of us had a leisurely breakfast and then walked over to the Sunset Crater Visitor Center. Paulo and Steve dropped us at the mall while he and Paulo went to the airport to pick up their car rental for getting them to Vegas for their return flight tomorrow. Then we went to Williams to the Grand Canyon Railroad RV Park where we stayed on our first round. We just had to have dinner at the Pine Country again with those huge cream pies. It was our last...

Aug 8, 2012 - Presenting our grand-daughter, Kaitlin

Chattefield State Park! So many good things to say about it and quite a few frustrations. One, they want $28.00 a day for the RV pad but also an additional $8 per day to park there. One would think that they would include that $8 into the price to hook up. If we had the tow car it would have been $16.00 per day. That seems to be a rip off, in my book. The park is very clean, though. Beautifully raked, spacious sites, cut grass, and level pads. There are paved bike/walking trails that Jim and I rode our bikes through and around the park. The...

Apr 17, 2011 - Chatfield State Park

4 days to rest after my trip at this super park...stayed in D183 which was a great site. Casarina got to experience the exercise pen for the first time...she is really smart and is very good about going outside to potty...and the trip up from Dumas was much, much quieter...I believe she is adjusting. Now for weaning this next week..visited Mona Fasth and got her first puppy shots and worming...had my annual physical and my BP was great and cholesterol dropped to the mid 160's from the mid 190's...I will definitely keep up my wine each...

Dec 18, 2009 - Starting trip - leaving Littleton

Sam had to take his last high school final at 7:25am, so we packed while he did that. He as home by 8:30, but we didn't pull out until 9:00. Sulley and Abbey had a brief breakaway, as they went running out the door while we were packing. Sulley can't be talked back into the house. You must yell 'go for a ride!', and he hops into the car. Peter pulled the car back into the garage for his 'long ride', and we carried him back in. We made a quick stop at the bank, and onto Kansas we went. Lunch was in Burlington, CO, and Mary set the tone with...

May 20, 2009 - Getting Fresh Paint...

The main reason for us stopping in the Denver area (Littleton to be exact) was to have Rick's Dodge truck painted. From the many years of sitting outside it really needed a new paint job. Lucky for us there was a really nice state park, Chatfield State Park not too far from the shop. This is a very popular spot for weekend campers and the park was full every weekend. We got a great roomy spot with tons of room for Cheyenne to run and play. This was a really neat state park with over 190 full hookup sites. There was also a small lake, a...

May 3, 2009 - Hangin' out

After two days of driving it was nice not to get up and not get on the road. After breakfast Beth talked me into helping her search for a venue for our family reunion in 2013. We both sat at the kitchen table with our laptops doing Google searches for places that cater to groups. The Mielke household is definitely a 21st century house. They have a wireless network and there always seem to be at least 2 laptops on and ready for use at any time, with a couple of others waiting in the wings and not a desktop machine in sight. Our searches...

May 3, 2009 - Last day in Littleton

We had a beautiful sunny day here in Littleton. Sam got the lawn mowed, Peter got his 40 mile training bike ride in, Mary slept late and Beth, Caroline, Sam and I took the dogs to the dog park. We saw lots of dogs besides the Mielke dogs Sully and Abby. Most off leash and not a single dogfight, pretty amazing. I can honestly say I've never seen so many dogs in one place. We had a pretty lazy afternoon, we did get in a few games of Rummikub and looked at photos from the last two Bahnson reunions. It's been a great visit here with the...

Nov 22, 2007 - Happy Thanksgiving

We eventually got our coach back on the Wednesday evening and so went back to Chatfield State Park for the holiday weekend. For the English readers among you American Thanksgiving is a major holiday when nearly everything is closed and so we had a quiet day getting back to normal in the coach. However we did have a lovely walk along Bear Creek Canyon, Jenny enjoying the snow. ...

May 7, 2007 - Fulltiming Begins

Today is the day that officially marks our status as fulltime RVers. Don retired on April 29th and my last day of working the 8-5 grind was May 4th. After spending the last year and a half sorting, selling and donating our "stuff", 2500 sq. foot house can be put on the market and we can move into our 35 ft Excel 5th wheel with our dogs, Baxter and Zoe. The first two weeks will be spent at Chatfield State Park in Littleton, Colorado. Our site is in the D-loop where there is full hookups with a view of the reservoir and hot air balloons as...
