Wyoming 2018

Jun 15, 2017 - Limon, CO

/// Limon KOA Limon, CO Thursday – June 15, 2015 Weather: Clear and cool at departure from Buena Vista. // We departed Buena Vista at 8:15 A.M. Our route today would be east on US 24 all the way to Limon, CO., a distance of 172 miles. The first leg of our trip was very pleasant and scenic. Very little traffic and the road conditions were good. We passed through some very authentic ranch country. I was thinking about that as we saw cattle, horses and even a herd of Bison. By the time we approached Woodland Park the traffic picked up and was...

Oct 25, 2016 - Limon, Tuesday the 25th

We left Topeka before 8am and landed in Limon, about 85 miles from Denver, late this afternoon. We could have made it home, but stopped here so we could dump and winterize the tanks before we get home. We should be home tomorrow before lunchtime! The day was (thankfully) eventless, except for one cool thing. We were on westbound I-70, a few dozen miles from Salina. We both looked several miles down the road (which you can do in the flatlands of Kansas), and saw what initially looked like smoke over the interstate. Once we got closer, we...

Oct 6, 2016 - Limon, CO

It always strikes me as odd that the flattest land we have seen on all our travels is in Colorado. Limon is about 75 miles east of Denver in Eastern Colorado. So far, Colorado is COLD. Overnight is below freezing (and I am trying out my new heated water hose!) Tomorrow we ascend the Rocky Mountains and travel along one of the most scenic routes of the entire interstate system. Limon is at 5,400 ft and Janet tells me that tomorrow on I-70 we will reach 10,000 ft along our route. Fortunately the weather is forecast to be clear and sunny, with...

Aug 27, 2014 - Limon, CO.

We drove only 150 miles today to Limon, CO. We are staying at a KOA campground. This stop like the last one is a transit stop, where we don't even unhook the car. We have 50 amp service for afternoon air conditioning and water and sewer for showers, not to mention a little traveling rest. There is always laundry and some house cleaning. Not that we have a lot of house to clean! Tomorrow Castle Rock, CO. to spend time with Diana's two sisters.

Apr 20, 2014 - Easter Sunday in Colorado

We had a wonderful, but different, Easter Sunday this year. After everyone was up, fed, and dressed we walked to the Colorado River for our private worship. While sitting under an overcast sky, listening to the rushing water, we took turns reading the Easter story from the Gospel of John. Then Justice sang "How Great Thou Art" and as she was singing the sun burst through the clouds. She finished with "Amazing Grace" and we walked back to close up IRVing for another drive. The first part of our journey was alongside the Colorado River and...

May 14, 2013 - A day in Kansas

So I must remind you - 1) remember to choose to see all photos and 2) click on photos to enlarge. And I must remind myself to tell you what I forgot to mention yesterday. I saw my first buffalo herd somewhere between Ft. Riley and Hays, Kansas. And the wind turbines - must have been 30 miles of them along I-70. Looked like creatures from outer space dancing across the prairie. And the trees - the slanted trees. I'm guessing because of the enormous winds there are whole stand of trees that grow slanted away from the wind. Now, we started in...

May 8, 2013 - Limon, CO

Granted, we got a late start this year because I worked thru April ( I usually work thru March). But it seemed to take forever to get this trip started. Part of the problem is that we just don't work as fast as we used to. We finally got underway at about 10 am this morning. It took us nearly an hour to get out of the city via I-70. Just east of the airport, the rain stopped and the sun came out. Woohoo! Time for Lesson #1: Be Careful What You Wish For. I have been loudly complaining about our lack of thunderstorms this year. We had a small...

Oct 12, 2012 - Limon Colorado Campground

This is way we stayed while in Limon. The KOA's are normally the most expensive on the road, but this one is very comparable to all the other campgrounds we checked in the Denver area. It is also located near all the services, Gas, Food, Stores etc. Nice sunrise and sunsets from here. Have a great day Rick & Bandit

Oct 12, 2012 - Limon Colorado Local Area Tour

After Topeka KS we did stop overnight in Goodland KS. There were no campgrounds there so we stopped at the local Wal Mart. Talked with the manager and he welcomed us to stay over. I ended up buying more stuff at his store. Sometimes I think it would be less costly to stay in a campground. Out next stop, after Goodland, was Limon Colorado. We arrived early and plan on staying until Monday morning. At that time we are heading for Fort Lupton Colorado and the Aqua Hot School. I did talk to the instructor this morning and he said that 8 people...

Sep 20, 2012 - Day 4

11:30pm or 10:30......Moutain Time, what ever time that is! We lost another hour today. We needed it though haha. Left around 8am and drove 600 miles. From Mid MO, straight across Kansas, and into Colorado. It was power driving today to get some miles under our belt quickly. Breaks only for potty and gas. It wasn't bad per say, just very boring. From one end of Kansas to the other end, literally with pretty much nothing along the way to look at lol. Couple hundred miles of corn, the couple hundred miles of wheat, then couple hundred miles...

Aug 1, 2012 - First Adventure!

We left Wyoming and headed for Colorado on Wednesday morning. We met my cousin Dave Fochtman and his wife Kelly for lunch—they were headed north on I-70, bound for Fort Collins, and we were headed south, so we all met at Johnson’s World Famous Truck Stop outside Fort Collins. Johnson’s is famous for its cinnamon rolls but we didn’t have one so we can’t tell you if that is a deserved reputation or not! Mary had not seen Dave for many years—neither could remember how many—so they had a lot of catching up to do. As we continued on toward our...
