Jul 3, 2013 - Still here

With this being the 4th of July week, we decided to stay put in this beautiful site. We drank our coffee in the field right across from the camper where we could see the valley below and a range of mountains that must stretch for 50 miles. We biked about 4.5 miles on the other side of the Rainbow Trail- lots of pushing the bikes up hills and down some that were too rocky and scary to ride. Rather not spend time in the ER wherever one may be from here. Luckily we got the ride in before 2 as the afternoon thunderstorms arrived early today....

Jul 2, 2013 - Lake Creek

We rode our bikes up the road about a mile from the campground and found a great site higher up with a better view and a better price (free!). Beats paying $15 for the use of a picnic table. So we went back and loaded up and drove 1 mile today. I think everyone was glad not to be going another 300 miles and trying to find a campsite. We hiked some of the Rainbow Trail which is a 100 mile path at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Jul 1, 2013 - Colorado!

Once again we stayed off the interstate and made our way across hwy 96 through lower Kansas and into Colorado. It seemed like it took all day before we reached Pueblo,Co. We got enough provisions in Canon City for several days and headed toward the Sangre de Cristo mountains. In all the years that we have camped in Colorado,we had never been in this area. We found the Lake Creek campground outside of Hillside and stopped for the night. It's on a forest service road and the only other person there was the campground host. A rainstorm came...
