In the morning, we found ourselves in a sea of fog. We took our time getting ready to get on the road, and by then the fog had lifted. On to our next destination, John Martin Reservoir State Park in Hasty CO. .. The weather was beautiful, the fields were forever, and the wind towers were many many many! The dam at the park in Hasty CO is a Army Corps of Engineers project, and is part of flood control on the Arkansas River. Water levels here were low, just like those at Cedar Bluff State Park in KS. It has been a long day. We covered less than 200 miles in the RV but then we had another 140 to see the last site. We are finally settled in for the night and Phoenix is exploring again. Tomorrow we are off to the Academy and then Garden of the Gods.

Apr 22, 2010 - John Martin State Park

John Martin State Park has a small lake and sits among trees. We enjoyed watching white pelicans feeding. What a treat. Hasty is a small community about a block long. It has a small store a school and some homes. The Bent’s Old fort was a stopping place for travelers, trappers and hunters. It was neutral ground for Indian peace councils. It was one of the significant centers of fur trade on the Santa Fe Trail. Brothers, Charles & William Bent along with their business partner, Ceran St. Vrain, built the fort in 1833. It has been...
