Jun 30, 2019 - Like Smoke In The Wind

We are in a 3-day transit from Ft. Verde AZ to the Rocky Mtn Nat’l Park near Denver CO. What beautiful terrain. Every time we think the land can’t get prettier, it does. We were lucky enough to stop at Navajo Nat’l Monument and then travel through Monument Valley again…like refreshing your soul. Later we followed the Colorado River upstream. The heavy snow-pack winter run-off is still evident with the River at or above flood level. It was tough to pass Arches Nat’l Park today but Mike says we will go back. (Mike here…we ARE going to spend...

Oct 6, 2013 - Colorado

Catch up time. Spent a couple of National Park shutdown days (windy anyway) in Blanding in the relaxed mode. Did take in a local museum, Edge of Cedars, for a town Blanding's size, a very good museum, showing a lot of the early American inhabitant ways of life. Museum built next to a puebloan structure. Next day went about 13 miles south and west to a roadside ancient ruin, Butler Wash,a canyon about 100 yards by 1/2mile hole in the ground where ancients lived. Started the turn back toward the East and started our drive to South Dakota....

Gambling and Nature

Jul 18, 2013 - Leadville

Today we took Hwy 24 south to Leadville. This is the "red" road on the AAA map and could be driven by the Eagle, but it's pretty windy with some sharp turns. It did get us up to 10,252' and it was cooler. In Leadville we saw a historic mining village and the remains of silver mines from the late 1800's. We went to the Heritage Museum as we'd been to mines before. This museum included a diarama of the ice palace that was constructed of ice in 1896 to draw tourists to Leadville. It had entertainment venues and operated for 10 weeks - crazy...

Jul 17, 2013 - Aspen and Glenwood Springs

Today we drove to the campground we would have stayed in to get our mail, outside of Carbondale it was remote and would have been too much out of the way for us now. We then drove an easy road to Aspen, at the airport corporate jets are lined up for a mile. We saw several fly into the airport including a US Govt. jet. The drive into these mountains is beautiful and Aspen is very nice, but just jam packed with cars and people. We decided to get back to a less conjested area even though the scenery was great. We checked out Glenwood Springs,...

Jul 30, 2010 - Trip to Vail

Today we go to the RV Office to retrieve our cinnamon rolls. They are huge, about eight inches in diameter, and we have them with coffee on the deck. When we finish, we leave for Vail which is about thirty three miles east. When we get there, we head to Vail Run which is the Condo where we have a timeshare that we have owned for over twenty years but have never seen. It is a very nice five story building. Our unit is on the third floor and is occupied but the girl at the desk lets us visit an identical unit on the fourth floor. It is a...

Hiking and biking are passions in this area and there are trails for both everywhere. In downtown Denver, there are places where you can obtain a bike at one point and leave it at another. You have to join and pay a fee for this service and then you must be given a code. Everywhere you go, there are places where you can park and...

Aug 23, 2009 - Gypsum CO

We had another uneventful travel day today thank goodness. We started out not really knowing where we were going and Doug has vowed never to let that happen again. While a planless agenga is perfectly OK for him, it drives JoAnn up a wall. She needs her maps, her time lines; she needs to know what is waiting for us at the end of the day, what the campground looks like, what there is to do around the camp and the ancestory of the owners. So, we had some uncomfortable moments until we finally stopped at a rest stop and got out the computer so...

Living Our Dream

Jul 12, 2008 - Into the Rockies

OK, where were we? Oh yes, Beaver Utah. That was so long ago it seems and not really a highlight of the journey. I have been in search of the illusive WiFi connection and now I have it in my grasp once again. So sit back and relax and let me tell you what has been happening the last few days. We headed Northeast out of Utah and into Colorado to visit with the Sheaffer’s. Bud’s (my) Aunt Karen, Uncle Jim and their kids Jeremy and Judd in Gypsum Colorado, just outside of Vail and Beaver Creek. They have a beautiful home on a mountaintop in...
