Jul 4, 2014 - Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July to all our family and friends. We hope you all have a wonderful day! A special Happy Birthday to Cameron too, he is 13 today. We spent our day at the Greeley Stampede and had a ball. The Greeley Stampede began its tradition of rodeo and festival 90 years ago, turning it over the years into “the premier event in Northern Colorado.” Boasting a title in the recent past of the “World’s Largest Fourth of July Rodeo,” Greeley draws top contestants in the sport to vie for a piece of the almost $300,000 total purse along with the...

Jul 2, 2014 - Travel Day Troubles

We left Central City this morning around 11:00 A.M. We were not in too big a hurry, we only had about 80 miles to drive to Greeley, Colorado. All went well until we took a turn the wrong way and ended up on a dirt road with a very old mine. It also had a truck parked right in the way to keep us from turning around. Jerry had to unhook the car and back up against the dirt wall to turn around. I was moving the car and he decided to back up before I was there to watch for him, he backed right into a rock wall and bent our muffler on the end....

Jul 27, 2013 - We're off!

We were off Tuesday, July 22, and stopped to have lunch with our brother, Tommy, in Las Vegas. Then on to St. George, UT where we had an early morning tour of Zion. At a stop in Grand Junction, Lonnie and Gary went to a HUGE auto museum. Surprise, surprise! A long, beautiful drive across I70 to arrive here to visit Lonnie's outlaws, especially cousins, Daryl and Sue Stone. What a surprise to find there are no campgrounds available within 50 miles because of Cheyenne Frontier Days. We have a wonderful spot at Day Spring Christian Day School,...

Jun 16, 2012 - Colorado

16Jun12 - Today we will be traveling to Colorado. Our destination is Greeley RV Park. It is 3PM and we have arrived and are setup in our "temp" home for next couple days. We are not BIG FANS of this choice... it is a dust bowl field for the most part. It is a new section of the RV park that is really still under construction as you can see in the photos. Oh well we are here and will make the best of it. We made a trip to downtown Greeley so I could take Gene to Batter Up bakery and Rio Grande for dinner. 17Jun12 - Happy Father's Day to all...

Jun 28, 2011 - Back to the Flatlands. Yea, Oxygen!

This morning, we headed further up the mountain on highway 91 to Fremont Pass, 11318'. (How the heck did they figure that out in the 1800's???) Once through, it was all down hill. When we hit I-70 we opted for US-6 which was replaced by I-70. It was an awesome drive into Golden. I took some video but can't figure out how to bring it up here. If I'm not mistaken, we picked up some gold ore along the side of the road. Maybe I'm rich... or wanted for claim jumping?!? When we neared Denver,I pulled into a rest stop to drop Mrs. P off so she...

Colorado Adventure

Jun 8, 2009 - Cowboy country

We left the motel site and train serenade early this morning and headed toward Cheyenne, WY...passing through pretty ranch country like you might see in the movies (ranches too far away to see). We're told that Ted Turner is the biggest land owner in NE, but I think I read that he is the biggest in the country. It was rainy and cool through most of the way here. This is typical of many of the small towns we went through...in fact this is bigger than most, except Alliance. We went through Alliance, NE and saw where many of the trains come...

May 12, 2009 - Greeley, Colorado

Today we drove to Greeley, Colorado and got set up at the Greeley RV Park. It was kind of late in the day but we decided just to drive around the downtown area before we gave it up for the night. We drove around the city and took a few pictures in downtown Greeley. It looks like they have a very nice restored downtown area and several blocks that are blocked to traffic for shopping in downtown. They seem to be doing a good job at getting people back in the downtown as there were lots of shoppers. We decided to park here two nights so we can...

Aug 3, 2008 - Day 3!!

Day 3! Yesterday we traveled to Brush, CO wich is just to the East of Fort Morgan. It was a long day,we were very tired. We swam in the pool, ate and then went to bed. We slept a long time! Yesterday in Western Nebraska it was 108 degrees. I have never been anywhere that hot. I've heard "but its DRY heat". It doesn't matter - IT WAS HOT! 16% humidity and breezy - but the heat just sucks the moisture right out of you! Brush CO was such a strange town. A hotel, a gas station, chinese food and Wendys. Oh, and two correctional factilities - one...

Johnson Road Trip

Jul 4, 2006 - Rodeo!

Probably the most fun we have had on this trip - we went to the Greeley (Colorado) Rocky Mountain Stampede Rodeo! Neither Kevin nor I had ever been to a rodeo and we had no idea what to expect. Outside the rodeo arena, there was a true carnival-like atmosphere with food and souvenir vendors and all kinds of "fun rides". We had barbecue and funnel cakes for lunch and watched the "crazies" ride in the bungee seat ride! After that, it was time for the rodeo!! We watched bare-back riding, bronco busting, team roping, barrel racing, etc. Greeley...

Jun 8, 2006 - Greeley, CO

Hi Guys, I'm beginning to wonder if the "happenings" will ever end, though this one wasn't fun or funny. We're on our way from Golden, CO to Greeley, CO to attend a Good Sam Club Rally. Everything's going along fine, it's only about an hour away. We're on I-25 which is a 6-lane highway and of course we're in the far right lane because we only go about 50mph. All of a sudden Tim says, we've had a blow-out, I say, no way I didn't feel anything, he says no, not the RV, it's a blow-out on the tow-dolly and he's seen smoke. We pull over, we're...
