Sep 1, 2012 - Granby, Colorado
Up and at em, to another sunny morning (+11). We decided to head West and North for some more Rocky Mountain riding. Turkey went out to the bikes early and was puttering around when he heard someone say good morning. He looked around and didn’t see anyone until he looked up, and there was a hot air balloon right above him. As he quickly looked around he saw there were about a dozen more balloons floating around nearby. We found out later that the 36th annual Colorado Balloon Classic started today and is considered Colorado’s largest air...

Jun 25, 2012 - Sylvan Lake to Lake Granby, CO
Well, today was a day for leisure. We stopped at Sylvan Lake State Park last night. It is at 8600 ft. in the Rockies. We camped, did laundry, ate dinner, read a little while and went to bed. The night temperature was nice and cool. It was about 50º when we woke up. We took a hike around the lake this morning and Karen (don't you know!) fell down twice, tripping over tree roots (no surprise there), so I took the camera in my hand and told her if she fell again I was taking a picture of her. Wouldn't you know she didn't give me the...

Jeff Today we are driving to the Rocky Mountain National Park along the fast road, (75 mile per hour maximum), Interstate 70, until we reach Silverton after about 120 miles. From there we will go north and take the lesser main roads to route 34, The Trail Ridge Road which is the highest major highway in North America, topping out at 12,183 feet above sea level. This drive will take us to the eastern side of Rocky Mountain National Park. The first 30 miles was mostly flat open countryside to our right alongside the Colorado River with...

Jul 11, 2007 - Rocky Mountain High
Today we traveled into the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Tried that Ford F-350 Diesel for the first time on "serious hills". We crossed two passes, one of which was Berthoud Pass at 11,300 ft ... or there-abouts. I was impressed with the Ford, including the expensive exhaust brake I had installed just for mountain driving. All went well going up ... and coming down the mountain. We are staying at Snow Mountain Ranch, one of two YMCA of the Rockies camps in the Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park area. Pine beetles have done their thing with Lodgepole...
