Beginning Mileage 87570 Ending Mileage 87856 Dakota Ridge RV Park 17800 W. Colfax Ave, Golden, CO 80401 800-398-1625 10/10/8.5 $44/nt We got an early start and stopped once at the Colorado Welcome Center and once for fuel. When we were about fifty miles east of Denver the "Check Engine" light came on in the truck. We drove the rest of the way to Golden, CO which is just west of Denver arriving around 1:00 MDT. On the way we had located a Ford Dealer who could look at the truck on Monday and, after setting up, drove over to leave the truck...

Jul 17, 2010 - Golden, Colorado

7-17-2010 Update It’s been two days since our last update, and we have moved from Fountain, Colorado (Colorado Springs) to Golden Colorado (Denver). We are having a bit of a heat wave here with today’s 102 degrees setting a record. We celebrated the event by getting stuck on I-25 for an hour at 1:00 due to a car wreck. It was a good time to check out the generator so we could run the air conditioner in order to turn off the dash air and give the radiator a chance to keep the temperature gauges in the safe range! After settling at Dakota...

Jun 3, 2010 - Time Well Spent

Something went amiss when I tried to publish the text. So nothing showed up for this journal segment. The gist of what we were going to say was that our two weeks or so around Golden, Co. was time well spent. The weather was mostly benevolent. We took many rides trips into the Rockies. The bikes got very good use while we were there also. We had friends come to visit. And we got some projects completed on 'the Neighborhood. A special treat was the Crosby, Stills, and Nash concert in the Red Rocks Amphitheater. So, as I say, Time well spent.

May 28, 2010 - Birds Eye View

The word from Bird I have been meaning to get my viewpoint down on record for some time, but it has been difficult to use the keyboard when your feet are frozen stiff. In fact, hanging on to my perch as those two go cavorting around the country with frozen feet is no easy feat either, if you get my drift. “They” finally purchased a radiant electric thermal perch. Man, my feet haven’t felt so good since we left the OC. It has taken several days of squatting on the new perch to get my tootsies loosened up. We have had a couple of real warm...

May 23, 2010 - Dr makes a House Call

We have been hanging out in Golden Colorado for some time now. The weather has been mostly improving and we have been enjoying moving outdoors again. We will never run out of things to do and places to go around here. Our friend, Dr Bill, drove over from Texas to visit us for part of his vacation. He packed his car with many tools to help us with a few projects around ‘the Neighborhood’. He is in the process of renovating an Airstream and wanted a firsthand look at the ‘good life’. Bill had set up a tour at Timeless Travel, where they do...

May 22, 2010 - Golden Day

Howdy Partners. We spent yesterday on a bike tour of Golden. Let me first state that we are on a ridge high above the historic old town area. We rode downhill for a little over 5 miles. Do the math, 5 down = 5 up. Did we mention that the altitude is 6000ft? We tried to upload more photos, but our new small camera is shooting at too high of a resolution and the files are just a bit too large to send unless we pay for an upgraded service. We had a great time touring Golden on our bikes. Clear Creek runs through downtown and the Clear Creek...

May 20, 2010 - Colorado base camp

The road north to Golden was easy going and beautiful. We remarked that this was our first drive that we were either not running from a wind or precipitation event, or we were actaully in a storm. That was nice. Every move we have made in the last 6 weeks was under 'a weather eye' The scenery was magnificent. We had The Great Plains flowing endlessly off to the East and the multi colored front range of the Rocky Mountains reaching for the blue sky off to the West. I tend to get a little tense when we are making a landing in unknown...

Oct 18, 2009 - Golden, CO

Dakota Ridge RV Park, Golden, CO (about 20 min. from downtown Denver) We settled in Golden, CO, for a few days because of its proximity to Evergreen, where one of my cousins lives. Unbeknownst to me, Golden also happens to be home to Coors Brewing Co. Clearly better informed, Nick made sure we didn’t miss the brewery tour. I convinced myself this field trip would be at least partly educational, which it was. I really don’t like the taste of beer, so the free samples at the end were not the highlight that they seemed to be for so many...

Aug 29, 2009 - Touring Denver

This morning we walked down to the Golden Farmer's Market which is just outside the entrance to our park. We patronized the pastry vendor and also bought some peaches. Fillmore went along and received many sniffs from other dogs as well as many pats from passersby. Then we walked home to await our next adventure and what an adventure it was! John and Julie drove down from their home in Black Hawk to go out to lunch with us. They took us on a tour of some very nice sections of Denver showing us places where they had lived before. We strolled...

Aug 28, 2009 - A Visit to Boulder

This very beautiful morning we decided to drive to Boulder to look around. Doug had never been there and it had been many years for JoAnn. The trip up was only about 20 miles and we saw the rolling plains of Colorado. Entering town, we saw the University of Colorado and it really has a beautiful campus. Then we drove downtown to visit the three block long outdoor mall they have there. It was really well done. It had sculptures, murals, and we ate lunner at an outdoor restaurant and watched tons of little kids splash around in one of those...

Aug 27, 2009 - Walking Around in Golden

Today, Doug revolted (is revolting?) about driving for hours every day doing scenic touristing. So we made other plans. We did our touristing by foot. We walked around the "heritage" section of Golden where there are many fine old homes, modernized and in excellent repair and we enjoyed ourselves very much thank you. We were forced to stop at a recommended bakery for a cinnamon bun. We were in the heart of the Colorado School of Mines district. We then strolled through the downtown area where JoAnn took pictures of some of the sculpture and...

Aug 26, 2009 - Mt Evans...Almost

It was a clear and sunny morning so we again decided to climb Mt Evans (in the truck.) We drove to Idaho Falls which is a neat little old mining town about 30 minutes from here along Clear Creek and through tunnels in the mountains. We fueled up there and drove around the little town admiring the old homes and cottages. It is still nice to see a town that is not dependent on chains or franchises! We had about a 20 minute drive up to the gate to Mt Evans National Recreation Area in the Arapaho National Forest. We checked in using our Golden...
