Oct 3, 2011 - Denver(Broomfield) Visit

We drove from our RV Park,Dakota Ridge in Golden, to my friend's summer home in Broomfield,Colorado (Northwest of Metro Denver). From their house on Promontory Loop, one sees the rockies about 14 miles to the west. The subdivision sits on a giant mesa. We spent a grand time reliving old times when we grew up together-since first grade! Mike and his wife Lynn Bufkin have two children and six grandchildren! The entire group lives in the Denver area. Mike is a retired lawyer who practiced near our old home town-Elgin,Illinois. We have stayed...

Oct 2, 2011 - Durango to Denver

We hated to leave beautiful Durango. The drive to Denver-Golden,Colorado was most scenic. We again passed east over Wolf Pass and followed Rt 168 through Buena Vista again and east to Denver. We arrived at Dakota Ridge RV Park about 6PM. The last hour was a big traffic jam since all the locals were returning to the city after spending the weekend at the peak of fall color in the surrounding mountains.

TRIP OFA LIFETIME IV

Sep 23, 2011 - Elizabeth Colorado in the rearview mirror...

Selling our home was an adventure in itself but that's a story for another time... On September 23rd, Jeff drove our 35' 2005 Gulfstream Endura out of the driveway in Elizabeth for the last time. The RV pulled a small trailer full of "stuff" and I followed behind driving the Jeep. We went straight to the Title Company for the closing on our house and then to a nearby parking lot. We had no idea where we were going to spend the night. We were both still working, Jeff for one more week and me for two. We needed to stay close and several...

Sep 6, 2011 - Arrived in Golden, CO

Drove from Rifle to Golden, CO today. Rained the entire way. Disconnected the Jeep in Vail, CO and went over a 11,500' pass and 12,100' pass. What a long climb. Apparently the storm is following us as it is now raining in Golden. At least it is not hot. The drive was beautiful as it followed the river thru canyons, it was green with lots of trees and the water was roaring. Great drive. Feeling pretty good. -------- It is so good to have my husband back on the road with me. He really does look better, and much more chipper than the day we...

Jun 15, 2011 - Blast Off

Left Golden around 9:00AM - North on I-25. Right Front Tire of the S-10 blew about 25 miles up the road... First excitement!!! Called Good Sam Road Service and they came out about an hour later and changed the tire. Continued up I-25 to Casper, WY and spent the night at Fort Casper Campground. The next morning I went to town and bought replacement. Finally got back on the road around 10:30 AM headed for Montana.... Picture was taken in Chugwater, WY...

Aug 12, 2010 - Steamboat Springs and Golden, CO

Since arriving here in Colorado last week we have been doing some sight seeing in different parts of the State. We stayed at the Yampa River State Park in Hayden, CO about 25 miles west of Steamboat Springs. This is a great campground, very clean and quiet. Friday and Saturday (8/6&7) we spent time in the Steamboat Springs area. Steamboat Springs is a good size town with a big ski area. The town is full of ski chalets and condos, as well as all the stores and shops you could think of in a tourist town. After a great lunch at a local Mexican...

Aug 1, 2010 - Move to Golden

The RV park in Estes Park is owned by the same company as our next destination, Dakota Ridge RV in Golden and the lady told me to stop in the office and pick up a coupon for a discount. I never turn down a discount and it was for 5% off; these parks are pretty expensive so 5% is no shabby amount of money. Joe got us hooked up and we were on our way around 10 o'clock. Even though it's only 65 miles, we knew it would take about 2 hours to get to Golden because the roads are winding, with some steep downgrades. It's always adventurous when...

This morning we are off to Rocky Mountain National Park. First, we stop to see historic downtown Golden. It is a nice little town with a river running through it and up by the Coor's Brewery. Then we are on the road to the mountains. We go through Boulder where the University of Colorado is, then proceed to the town of Estes Park which is at the base of the Rocky Mountain National Park. We stop at the Visitor Center for maps and information then head to the northern most entrance. Here we stop at yet another Visitor Center and have some...

Jul 27, 2010 - Touring Towns and the City

This morning as we were getting ready to leave for the Rocky Mountain National Park, we got a call from the Ford Dealership that the truck was ready. This time they had replaced the inner workings of the turbo. By the time we picked it up there was not time to do Rocky Mountain so we decided to go back to the RV and formulate another plan. There are two old gold mining towns about twenty miles from here that are described in "1000 Places to See Before You Die", so we decided to go there and then downtown. The first town was Idaho Springs....

Jul 26, 2010 - Pike's Peak or Bust

We were up very early this morning to take the truck to the hospital once again. As we got off of the highway, alongside the road was a colony of prairie dogs. Sue was extremely excited to finally see them in their natural habitat. There were about fifty mounds and many of the animals were out playing. We even heard one "bark". After leaving the Ford Dealership, having breakfast at IHOP and returning to the RV for jackets, we were off to Pike's Peak. Our reservations were for 2:40pm but we arrived before noon in hopes of getting on stand-by...

Jul 25, 2010 - The Lariat Loop

Today we took a driving tour of the Lariat Loop. It is a forty mile scenic drive through the foothills west of Denver. The first part of our drive took us to the town of Golden, past the Coors Brewery, then up a very steep climb with many hairpin curves to the top of Lookout Mountain. This is also a favorite bicycle route so we passed many of them along the way. There are many places to pull out for views Golden and Denver in the distance and views of the Rocky Mountains from the other side. As we neared the top, there were several hang...
